CD wow i'm impressed!

Was quite impressed with cd wow today. i order a few bits off them on the 1st of december (and have subsequently ordered a load of other bits off them as well). out of the first order one of the cd's was delayed for despatch and i was informed of this by mail and then informed when it was despatched

However as of yesterday i had yet to recieve any of the cd's after there 7 day time scale but had received ps2 games from the same order and cd's from another order. i emailed them last night saying i hadn't recieved them and i found a mail today saying they may have got lost in the post and they would redespatch the items and if the other ones turned up could i please return them to....

I was quite impressed with this as they where taking my word straight off for all they know i could have all the cd's here. This morning however one of the cd's did arrive so i just mailed them asking them not to despatch it again. hopefully the others will come tomorrow.

    regards

Most mail order companies do this when the product is under a certain price, like 50 euro or something. Play.com for example allow for 7% of its stuff to go missing in the post and actually factor this into their prices.

I have a similar problem with CDWow. Two cds were dispatched to me on the same date. One arrived on December 9th six days after dispatch and the other has gone missing.

I emailed them on Sunday and was told that there are often delays with 'Royal Mail' and to wait a couple more days as and then email them back if it still hasn't arrived.

What are the chances that a replacement posted on/after tomorrow would make it in time for Christmas? :(

Another package from play.com seems to be missing as well....

yeah, Play.com sent me out a second PS2 game when the 1st didn't arrive

it would have been great if komplett would have send me out a new graphics card before i had to return my faulty one :)

i've only used play.com once (got the fancy LOTR box set with gollum as cdwow didn't have it)

i'm hoping the others will turn up without having to wait for the new despatch.

btw who delivers the cdwow stuff up to the door is it an post?

I thought they'd be a bit overloaded with the Christmas season upon us and what not

i bought some stuff from them about two weeks ago for the first time. Very impressed with their prices. Was unsure about them putting the price value of the package on the box. If it was an expensive order someone could easily take it. Took about two weeks to get some CDs shipped from cdwow.hk

Have used the .HK version of the site for months, between them and play.com no Irish record store has seen a single cent from me:D

I've never had any trouble with either company, the longest any item took to arrive was 8 days. Would recomend them to anyone.

I have everbody in work converted to play.com, they kick ass, anybody still shopping in the likes of virgin or hmv is a fool, spread the word people and someday the fat cats in these companies might wake up and realise that we know they are a rip off.

Both my missing cds arrived today. :)

i have never had any trouble with either cd-wow or play.com every item has arrived within 10 working days. i once had a problem with an order not going through with cd wow but worldpay debiting my account. with in a half hour of emailing them i had a response and the order was sorted. comparing that to importmadness.com who it took a solid month of emailing to get a single response over a lost order there is no real comparison. they are two of the best online stores going and would not hesitate to recomend either.

im just abit pissed i didnt order that evangelion box set during the summer. they dont have it in stock anymore :/

Must add my voice to how good cdwow and play.com are. I also have been using the hong kong version of cdwow for ages and it really is good value. Picked up The Taking of Pelham 123 there for €9 compared to €24 in HMV. No item has ever taken longer than five days to arrive.

It's a good idea to keep an eye out for their 'editor's picks' on the left hand side. Ordered a game "XIII" this morning for around €25, it's now back up to around €45:D (Still €15 cheaper than a retail store)

HMV and the like can go sh&g themselves if they think I am paying their rip-off prices.

hopefully my sig is helping to spread the word anyway. :D (feel free to copy it if you like)

ordered from cdwow and it turned up in 4 days, i was well chuffed.

have been telling everyone in work too.

there was something somewhere about the finé gael about them wanting people to name and shame rip off merchants, so i sent them an email about IRMA trying to shut down cdwow, and what a ripoff hmv and the like are, so we'll see what happens there.

Postal service seems to be **** slow coming up to christmas and lots of stuff seems to be going missing in the post (as evidenced by some people's replies here and my own experience) :(

Have already had 2 packages effectively lost in the post. Play.com were nice enough to send me out a replacement fairly quickly. As for the other one, it's been 2 months and still no word :( Getting the replacement package delivered to my home address in Cork, just to balance things out (hopefully the postal service might be more reliable down there).

I think with Christmas CD-Wow have a shítload of orders to process.... I ordered a DVD which was apparently dispatched on the 4th... it's probably lost. I sent them a mail today to suss it out and I'm awaiting a reply.

I imagine they'll sort it out for me... other than this latest delay I've never had any problems with them or play... although play seem to take alot longer to deliver.

been waiting 8 days so far for a dvd writer from the uk, so i'm guessing its either royal mail or an post causing the delays (neither has a great track record tbh) rather than something at cdwow's end.

they must know how many cd's they can process in a day, but don't have any control over uk/eire postal services unfortunately.

I've had similar problems. I ordered 3 DVDs from cd-wow.com.hk at the end of november. One arrived promptly, but no sign of the other two. So I e-mailed them, they replied quickly and said that they would redispatch the remaining two. But as of yet, one has still to arrive. So I suppose I'll have to e-mail them again.

But up to now I've never had any problems with them and things always arrived promptly. I'll just hang on in there with them

Do either CdWow or Play give you a tracking number for your package ? I guess not going by peoples comments. That would be so much handier.

Im closing this only for the time being, it may be a breach of charter, if not I'll reopen it.

Unfortunately no. More profitable for An Post to charge you loads extra (like €5 a letter) for you to have a tracking number, even though it would make their operation about ten times easier and more reliable if everything had a tracking number.

    thanks Monty

anywho update i've recieved all cd's i was meant to recieve they where just running a few days late. i also have these extra cd's coming out to me now which i suppose i should return. happy days overall

i do wonder though why items which are despatched later can come first are they coming from different locations or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,082 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Depends what country they're coming from and what method of post was used.

For example it took me 2 months to receive something from Canada via land mail and 4 days via airmail.

Amazon.co.uk generally take a few days to deliver, play.com about 2 weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

play.com said to me 3-5 days and i got it in a few days it was great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,082 ✭✭✭✭Stark

depends where you live as well. I'm in Dublin 3 and the post service is awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,522 ✭✭✭Dr. Loon

Well, I still haven't received my item from the 4th. Cd-wow replied to my query, then they had Worldpay credit my laser back with the amount for the order, and have cancelled my order 'cos they don't have any stock left!! Ah well. I'll just wait and see if I get my other order that shipped on the 13th.

Although it would be abiot of work, wouldn't it be fun to stand outside Golden Discs and HMV and hand out leaflets with info and comparisons between generic high street stores and play.com/cdwow.ie

Educate some people, it would be abit of a laugh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

didn't someone on boards or maybe i got it through an email have some file which showed the difference between high street retails and cdwow and play?

    This happened to me today..

BTW did they charge you twice?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,143 ✭✭✭spongebob

I''d complain about the postman if I were some of ye.

Ordered 40-50 or so mixed DVD and CD from play and cdwow and none went missing after dispatch

Only had to deal with CDWOW customer service once, my mistake, sorted very nicely and very fast too.
