Only UTV is working and no other region. ITV2 is not working either but I suppose UTV is a start.

    10906 V 22.0 5/6

    Gosh!

So maybe Santa will put UTV on the Irish EPG after all?

    Very interesting......

Do you reckon this is just testing and UTV will be blocked again by prime time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,608 ✭✭✭✭sceptre

Well, hopefully they're not just testing for fun (and no, I'm not being a smarty pants). Realistically given that it'sthe equivalent of flicking a switch, I can't see any reasons why they'd need to test for anything more than a few minutes (or even that) unless something's going to come of it.

I wonder if they're arriving by stealth on to the boxes for a start - Granada could have given the switchon the OK and TV3 don't have much to argue about while the channel isn't on the EPG.

(personally I think of almost the entire ITV network as a pile of poo but it's nice to have the option without switching cards)

Did anyone try out Five or C4 in case they are also unlocked...maybe someone flipped a switch by accident and hasn't realised yet.

great news. Has anybody heard anything official or otherwise from their contacts in UTV about this? Over to you Tony...........

Yip, UTV working fine. I had in in "Other Channels" since it was available a year or two back, never deleted (living in hope).

    Great news at last.

I had no idea this was going to happen, I find it interesting that other feeds on the same transponder remain encrypted so this has been done deliberately and is not a technical error.

    Well done Peter
By the way , were you trying everyday. I just wonder how long its been there

I wonder will we get the blue screen saying This programme is not available when Emmerdale and Coronation street come on, to keep TV 3 happy. Why not just add it to the EPG as it shouldn't need testing.

this definately only happened today, had one of my "now and again" looks yesterday and it was still encrypted. Rest assured if anything happens, its on these boards within 10 minutes.

Great to see UTV even tho its clearly the worst ITV region by a country mile, its better than no ITV at all. UTV should be like all the other ITV regions called ITV-1 using their promos and logos etc, hopefully they'll be forced to change soon. Would be nice to have ITV2 as well tho I dont think that will ever happen unless ITV goes fta entirely at some stage. Only thing now I have my aerial for is Channel 4, hopefully we'll get too eventually.

this is amazing news!!!! Never thought I'd see the day!!!

hopefully UTV will be on the EPG soon enough. Any guesses where it might appear??

105 is free in ROI at present?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 510 ✭✭✭TVDX

I think UTV will be placed after BBC 1 NI and BBC 2 NI on possibly 216.
It would make sense to have a nice NI part of the EPG.

This is amazing news, but could the plug be pulled again??,
i would love to have seen the looks of the shareholders of TV 3 when they found this out. Sky subscriptions will be on the up for next year if it makes it to the EPG.

UTV were pushing strongly for 105

I know EPG placement is only a minor issue,
but if they got 105, that would feel to me like it was a case of, "Right lads, that is your channel line up, dont bother asking about C4, your done now".

I think its unfair they should get 105.
But, its no biggie i spose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,817 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

    Excellent !!

I hope it appears on the EPG as it would be great news for Sky + viewers.

By the way, I'd imagine that TV3 would be a bit more likely to accept UTV onto Sky Digital if it was further down the EPG than 105. Let's face it, we could all live with it being around 216 if it got it past the TV3 nay-sayers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭BrianD

I understand from some info I overheard recently that UTV won't be on 105 on Irish cards. This is reserved for stations that may emerge within the republic of Ireland.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 510 ✭✭✭TVDX

Now that i think about it, Granada Plus on 118 is closing down soon to make way for ITV 3, and of course some other ITV services that are planned for the new year.

Is it possible that these channels, including ITV 2 and 3, may now be available?.
Id like to think so, after all we are losing Granada Plus.

Sorry to the bearer of bad news, but the damned 08 message is back, and UTV is once again out of reach!!

Confirmed, may have been a test though to test compatibility with Irish cards however nobody in UTV knew anything about this.

    Disappointed here too.

I have no idea what reason Sky/ITV/UTV would have for these "tests" other than to add to the EPG.
Lots of viewers for TV during Christmas so that would be a good time to advertise the addition. No point in ramping up on new subs before Christmas because the demand then (I assume) is already v.high and so the appeal of UTV on the EPG should lift subs in the new year (he said... guessing...)

just checked UTV, channel not available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭jabarrett35

Not to be too paranoid but I wonder has TV3 had something to say about UTV coming on the ROI Sky. Because it was the only region available so seems unlikely to have been a mistake. Test, whats there to test. Were just second class citizens that pay up for whatever they want to give us! And we should be grateful for it!

Great to have it back, even if only a test for now I had it tuned in since two years ago. So please don't do what other people did 2 years ago and ring sky to complain that it not on the Epg until we hear futher notice or else they'll cut it off I pressume.

it was probaly a technical error or something but have to say now thats its widespread it was probably pretty quickly noticed cos i bet a lot of influental people read this board so they would have got in touch to ensure it was encrypted pretty quicky although you could be right they could be testing it for a full scale launch try tomorrow during the day to see if it is clear this is what happened bbc clear during the day but encrypted at night . by the way how do you all know that utv wanted 105 on the epg was this reported somewhere or what?

this is similar to what happened prior to BBC 1 NI's launch on Irish cards except that seemed to turn on for every 2nd programme

should be an interesting week. Tuesday is normally channel launching day. wait and see i suppose

Well it looks like we are going to get UTV at last. What other reason would there
be for switching on UTV and no other regional variations?
Was going to watch Frank Skinner tonight but oh well!

It's a step in the right direction anyway!

I remember one of the Beeb's encrypting every second programme before it launched on EPG.

I would think it will appear on 216, TV3 wouldn't be too happy with 105 placement.

Thankfully EPG placement is not in the gift of TV3.

They could be testing Conditional Access triggers - as anyone who watches it will know UTV's automation often cuts in too early, too late or not at all, so you often get feeds from the South Bank or studio talkback going to air outside human hours. I'd imagine if they do go to air with some programmes having to be blocked, they'd be making pretty damn sure there'll be nothing going out that shouldn't. While not bothering to run their ads every so often doesn't seem to worry them, running a programme they shouldn't would be a big no no as they'd then have to pay for it !

I am an amature with things like this so forgive me if this is a stupid question. If I go to other channels and click ITV it says "NOW: No listings available" but when I go to UTV it tells me whats on at the moment but says this programme is not available. Has this always been the case since it got switched off yesterday?
