Christ! Not content with releasing dire albums they have to turn into Bon frickin' Jovi now! Playing the same venues year after year! And still pulling a crowd! And €60 a ticket? Is Lars still try to recoup his losses from downloads?

Because I live right next door to the same venue they're playing in again, and I'd rather not have to listen to them. IMO they haven't written a good song in years, and playing good oldies at gigs doesn't warrant a near 70€ price tag. Plus I can find much better things to listen to than hearing frantic tic tic tic tic tic echoing in thru my window. </rant>

Ah give the guys credit. they should have a new album out by then so who knows what to expect? I heard originally that plans were to have a follow up to st. anger done by summer 04

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

According to Encyclopedia Metallica, they're heading back into the studio in a year. And they'll be releasing the Presidio tracks,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

If they're planning to have it out summer 2004, I hope they're hitting the studio soon. I just prefer a bit of time spent on getting a great sound, to the purposeful sloppyness.
But, yeah I'll probably be going. I went to the one in August, but I'd like to go again, this time going to the pub before hand instead of queueing early to get a pit band.

Just heard a rumour that this gig is to be recorded for DVD. Anyone else hear this?

I might be going. A nice break after the woes of the leaving cert.

Yeah im sure Lars has hired Linkin park to fran tic tic ticly write the new metallica album, so as to have it out in time for thier next sell out tour. Emphasis on Sell out

Ah Metallica. Again. Now I'm not going to stop hearing about them for the next six months. And I thought St. Anger had run it's course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭empirix

Absolutely going...have been at all their gigs...with the top hat fondly remembered........in fairness..while i haven't bought their albums since justice...they do put on a good show....it will be a good day out. roll on nxt year

^^^ Maybe we should organize a bus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

    I@m there already :D
Up the front and in the f*cking pit this time. Last git was the first in 10 years that I've not been in the pit. I was not best pleased to see a half-empty pit with a bunch of 6 year olds + parents in it.....

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

heh, the average height in the pit was disgraceful last time.. i felt like a giant, and I'm not tall!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

definatly goin! ok last few albums have been too main stream, st anger being particularly bad, but the gig in the rds this year was fúckin class! definatly be there, not gonna hold out too much for a good new album though.

wanna be better support next year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭James R

I hate the way people criticise the new Metallica stuff so much. The next album could blow everyone away, whether it is released next year or in 10 years.

I think Noel Gallagher said it best when speaking of Oasis. He said that they could never get back to the days of writing stuff like they had on Definitely Maybe and Whats the Story Morning glory (when they peaked!) because you can't write about being on the dole and then going home in a limo to your mansion.

In Metallica's case they wrote about things that affected them then. They're no longer 4 unknowns but multi-millionaires. Perhaps as a result they've lost that great touch they once had but don't write them off yet.

As valid as your point about who they were/are is, people are entitled to criticise their music if they wish.
If it is not pleasing to the ear (as it is not) you should have the right to say so, whether you think they will redeem themselves in the future is irrelevant is it not? As it stands they have released nothign but tripe in recent years. I for one was saying that after Load came out the'd redeem themselves... How wrong was I?

If the next album is class I'm sure even the nu-Metal(lica) haters will admit to it. Provided they enjoy listening to it. The reason people bítch about the new stuff is its not enjoyable to listen to, in the opinions of many. Yet many 14 year olds believe differently.

    :D

For the record I'm not 14 although with the pains I have I wish I was sometimes. I agree if people don't like it then they should have a right to say so but it could be a bit early? is all i'm saying.
They've got a new bassist now who surely will have some input and their next album will be their first album really written since they got back together. After all a lot of st. anger was written before/while James was away.

I don't agree with you about Load/Re-Load though. True they weren't the best Metallica albums and didn't have hit after hit after hit on one cd but they did have a few great songs such as Fuel and Until It Sleeps. After all nowadays all you usually need is one decent single to rocket to the top of the charts, so bad has the music industry become.

Also I know it contained a lot of their older material but S&M around the same period was classic and was like hearing all their stuff again for the 1st time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

It's not really early at all though. They released an album. It stank. If they release a good one again people will admit to it. But as it stands they are the suck! IMO anyways! :D If I adopt the attitude you're suggesting I'll be saying to myself "Man, I really hate the Darkness, but I won't say that in case their next album is any good".

    :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,756 ✭✭✭demanufactured

dont ever mention the darkness on here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

I was merely using them as an example, of a band I despise tho, :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭James R

Fair enough but if you don't like Permission to Land and go to a Darkness concert then you're going to be a bit pissed off.
Go to a Metallica concert and they can still throw together one of the best sets around. Look at all the class songs they left out last year for instance such as Fade to Black etc.

I wasn't giving out about their back catalogue, most of it is amazing. I used to love the guys.

Your original point had nothing to do with the back catalogue either...
I hate the way people criticise the new Metallica stuff so much. The next album could blow everyone away, whether it is released next year or in 10 years.

Either way, near 70€ to see a band who are well past their prime, to me, is a disgrace. But what do I know?

For someone who's been here such a short time and has no authority here I don't think you're in a position to tell people what to do. Besides, discussing the Darkness here is perfectly relevant as they played support at the gig in question. ... Your attached image is pointless and irrelevant too.

No, you're not tall, but that doesn't stop you being a giant, Mordy ;)

Eh, someone tell me that the seating chart on that page isn't the seating for the gig!!!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Eh, how did I just manage to order 2 tickets if they're not on sale til tomorrow morning?

coz I is magic :P They usually put up a test page before they put them on sale. Slane was up on the monday before the Friday they were supposed to be on sale but that was taken down coz too many people found out.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

So do they actually honour these tickets then?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭sci0x

I'm definatley going. I just hope all the tickets dont sell out instantly.

Looks like loads from boards are coming. Maybe we should all congregate at a corner and start off our own mosh pit or something hehe.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Yeah I had my Maiden tickets posted to me 10 days before they went on sale :)

    How did you manage that?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Found their test page. I guess things must be posted out automatically without anyone actually checking to see whether they're supposed to be goin out or not. Dunno :/

    Dregin

    Dregin

Surely they would have their test page will hidden. Howd u manage do find out about that? Must prepare to find the test page when the tickets for the next popular gig comes out.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Search for "test" - click the link if one comes up...click go to date or whatever is above the link on the left.....it'll bring up the name of the event...That's how I've got it before anyway.
