Well done! Keep it up now; watch Christmas, though. I don't mean watch what you eat / drink - the biggest threat to you will be 'taking a break' from the Gym over Christmas, and then (although you would never plan it so), never getting back as your old habits re-emerge.

The secret is 'Plan now' - say something like, 'OK, I'll do a session on the 23rd, on Christmas Eve, I'll go out for a walk / jog / run Stephens Day after dinner, and I'll get back to the Gym on the 28th'. If you don't plan it it is very easy to get caught up in the holiday season, and putting the gm off until tomorrow, until next week, until I am back at work, until work has quietened down, until the weather improves, etc ad infinitum.

I also find that to 'trade-off' nights out with sessions in the Gym works very well and is for me very satisfying - for example. I know I will be at a party on New Years Eve, and it will be a late one, and there will be mucho drinking beer, so realistically New Years Day is going to be out for me; OK I'll make absolutely sure I do a good session on New years eve before going to the party, etc. Not only do you not feel guilty, you are free to enjoy yourself all the more.

Doing these things will also allow you to enjoy Christmas without worrying too much about what you eat / drink etc - if you make it to 5th January with your gym programme still intact, you will be back on here in 6 weeks time telling us more about your progress, and any Christmas excess will be well burnt off.

Great idea Genghis about the planning ahead and trading off days, I'll be doing that this year to keep my fitness levels for the marathon

You could do the Goal Mile as well on christmas morning :) I want to do that but my family will think I am even more of a weirdo of going running on christmas morning.

to be honest, nothin will really change over xmas, xmas eve is just like any other day to me, if the gym was open xmas day then i'd be there,, but i dont think it will be too much of a problem.. the gym wil only be closed xmas day and new years day wont it?

i checked weight again today, i lost another 2lbs, not bad since last thurs.. and i'm down from 38%bf to 33% since i started,, hopefully make 25% by middle of jan, fingers crossed..

Heh, heh, I had to sneak out really early last Christmas morning before anyone was up for the same reason. Actually it was really nice - so quiet, and frosty.

wish i could go running and get fit again. :(

used to excercise all the time, would cycle a minimum of 10 miles 3 times a week to keep the stamina up, and played rugby at the weekends for my city in the UK.

then i had a car crash when i was 17 and messed up my foot. the breaks healed, but i was left with athritis in my right ankle. it even gets me when i'm walking sometimes, and i'm 27 now, it's like someone sticking needles into my ankle joint, and it's always much worse in the winter.

i got myself one of those zero impact running things (striders they call them i think) and have been using that on and off, but i can't get more than 20 minutes even out of it before my ankle gives out.

it really p1sses me off that i want to get fit and i can't. i've piled on 5 stone since i was about 20. not good at all. i was OK for a while, but then i started putting on weight and it's been really hard to shift it without being able to excercise very much.

diets have only taken me so far, and it's driving me nuts. i've thought about swimming, but i don't know anywhere local, and i don't want to be flubbering round like a whale in a public pool anyway (same goes for the gym too i suppose).

it's just hard to stick to anything when i can't do very much for very long.

    anyway [/self pity]

Progress can be rapid. This is good because it shows you are making the effort and also because it should get you hooked on the healthy lifestyle.

    Well done!
