I have great news for VB students. Eamonn Cass is very sick and will be gone for the year. He is very sick, according to my class tutor, and she said that she can't say what it is. Must be serious then.

New lecturer! Might actually understand some of the subject now:D

    VB In 4 Lines :

Know the first letter of what you want to do.
    Type The First Letter.
Select from drop-down what you want to do.
    Run Program

Congrats, You Now Know VB!

VB is not easy, it's tiresome, and as a result - boring... which makes it hard 'cos it's the ****test possible language to use in programming

VB is not easy, it's tiresome,

VB is easy for most things, and if ur tryin to do some mad complex thing with it you should probably be using a different language:)
Why do u say its tiresome?

Heard it twas his kidneys or something, poor guy!
Our math lecturer got sick last year and missed a month or two but even though we hadnt covered some of the course it still had to go on the paper!

We might not get a replacement so quick! so it will up to ourselves to get on with it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭lulu

He is gone into have a kidney transplant, seemingly got a call last week to say that one had become available and off he went!

He might have been a bad lecturer but he could always be depended on for a few days extension on a project! unlike some of the lecturers i have this year. Do they not realize that the due date to them is actually the start day to me :D

Just do as I do and don't!!! I'm a lazy bastid! Did 2 reports last year! Threatened with failing, I didn't! No threats this year!

i only see 2 people celebrating......and one of them definitely is sick(look at her website), you do have a point though he is sick and it's by no means a reason to celebrate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

I'm not glad the man is sick, i'm merely celebrating the fact that we have someone else teaching us the subject and we're now finally in a position to learn something. Unfortunately we could have Catherine Moloney for it in the new year, but for the moment , we've got some babe:cool:

    /me now loves VB:p

    And you weren't before?

You cant blame a lecturer for your ability to learn a subject the lecturers are there as guides and to help you along the way,The rest is up to urself.

If he is that bad as a lecturer,Have you tried to do anything about it?
we've got some babe /me now loves VB

    Shallow

He is a bad lecturer. I was there a good few years ago doing programming, and 15 of our class of 25 failed his RPG & Cobol class. I know they're not the easiest or most useful languages, and he may know his stuff, but really struggles to get his ideas across in a way that's not incredibly boring and difficult to follow.

Having said that, I hope he gets well soon.

    Si.

Ah c'mon now ... seriously ... In theroy your right, but the amount I've heard regarding Networking & Optics comms course, and quality of lecturers you had, and somehow I doubt would do anything, apart from piss people off at you, and lower your grade if you started lodging complaints about lecturers.

writing this reply very hard due to periodic laughter from yer last statement, so excuse any typo''s

We didnt have the worst teachers for Networkin and optical Comms,we had the worst course content,
If a lecturer is that bad it has to be brought up with the college, thats different to lodgin a complaint

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

Many complaints were lodged before, but nothing was done. In first year, we complained about our maths lecturer and he blew up at us for complaining about him. Didn't change his teaching methods though.:(

    HAHAHAHAH
we complained about our maths lecturer and he blew up at us for complaining about him
Actually its the way you went about it that pissed him off. Regardless you CANNOT compare joe and Eamonn Cass.

I dont know eamonn but joe was a good lecturer and definitely not worth complaining about

Ah no in fairness, Joe was a good lecturer if you had a basic understanding of what he was talking about, if not you were screwed. He assumed everyone knew what he was talking about and as a result never re-explained anything.

However from what I hear, you cant compare Joe to Eamon Cass.

But get well soon to Cass!

It's used quite alot for PIC programming. By the way, what is your productive use?

the students did make an official complaint about Eamon Cass a few years back and with the support of the students union. in the end, the union was threatened with being sued and Eamon got a promotion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

    typical :ninja:

"i fought the Cass and the Cass won, i fought the Cass and the Cass won"

Do the lec s have to do a teaching course before becoming staff or do they just walk in from there jobs???

Padraig laughlin told us that he got a promotion because the higher he goes, the less teaching he will do, and that they have no real reason to fire him, so the only option is to promote him.

No. Example; Stormin Norman (Norman McMillian) got the job in physics. Great scientist. All me and moonbeam learnt was how great a scientist he is, yack, yack, yack...!

He gave up teaching CNOC after the first year. Mass class failure, I'd say. Dunno.

The teaching course in totally a volenteer option, tho.

Its really obvious who has taken it, and who hasn't.

I m sure that most of the lecs are very good at what they did but there is obvisously a difference in walking the path and teaching the path!

    Should be manditory!

    Those that can, do.
    Those that can't, teach.
