To be honest I think UT has more ppl but it looks like a bit of a "tribes" following to me.

aka. They make a lot of noise but in the end they all return to quake.

At the moment its UT all the way fro me. Q3a is just too slow and with all the Mutators in UT (Fatboy, Sniper Arena, Instagib) I feel the game has more to offer. I played the Q3a demo in Nethouse the other night and I wasn't impressed at all, it just didn't feel right.

Anyway none of these games are a patch on Quakeworld anyway

I'll wait till i play the full Q3A before i judge this one. But i must say UT definitley has the edge for variety of play at the moment ... even if the bots seem a bit challenged.

Personally i reckon the first one to come up with a decent CA option of play with RJ's instead of those fkin Jpads ... wins.

Um the bots are a bit "special" in UT.
Hurt them enough and they turn around and run for health.... easy money.

Physics feel weird but I like the sniper rifle...

Like gand I say none of them have a patch on QW.

Having played and finished Deathnatch on UT in 3.5 hours on "experienced" (there are higer settings) I think the level design blows. Very pretty but bugger all thought for internet team/ffa play (quads and armour and health and strong weapons all in close proximity...). I like the ship though...

The redeemer is the BFG, thats all there is to it, and its not hard to get. Thankfully its on few levels.

Its a good game alright, I like it and its fun but there is something weird about it.
It feels like Halflife a bit (any of those other q2-or-later games...)

Frames suffer but feel better at high res then q3. That "min frames" is a load of toss. It barely works as far as I can see.

Well I'm with the "why can't we play both" fraternity but at the moment UT is consuming my life. Check the time I'm posting ffs. An allnighter. Long time since I did that. UT has so much variety and more can (and will) be added by fans. As to the level design. I really find it hard to say so early on. I'm surprised you can make a pronouncement on that Dev without playing a lot more on the net against human players - good and bad.
Finally for someone with my interests I am glad to have the editor included. It's been confirmed that Q3A will NOT include the editor so that'll be another download at some stage.
At the end of the day I'll be buying Q3A too. And I expect to enjoy it but at the same time I've harped on about it's closeness to Q2 as opposed to QW and that's always going to be a problem for me. I'll still be playing CA of course but I'll probably always yearn for UT to add that little but more spice.

Misc comments:

hmmm UTs bots seem to have more cop. In that they pick the right weapon for the location (eg Flak cannon for corridors)

Q3's graphics engine is better, no question of it. It looks better, is more curvy and the lightings better.

Ut's netcode seems better but it's always a hard one to judge.

And I'll of course be playing both to death.

I've played the UT demo some and the Q3 demo lots. I found UT to be sorta uncomfortable, mainly because I wasn't used to it. I'm going to play whichever one is most popular.

Um vagga at "experienced" they should be able to give a brand newbie a run... I finished the game with only one or two restarts on any level.

But you and Shinji should get some ketchup for those chips on your shoulders lads, a negative critism doesnt equal slagging a game off... I said a number of positive things about UT which you decided to ignore...

Thing is, I dont think Q3 is going to be much better. I havent a net connection from home so I cant test the net code on UT. I like it, and I hope it leads to a revival in other team games (like ctf and dom)

Beyond that stop jumping at anyone who doesnt give the game a glowing report, it only makes the UT brigade look desperate...

Im with Eamo here, play what you want. I play a lot of UT. I also play Q3, but suck quite exceptionally at it, but its 'fun'. I will be playing both in leagues with EED, maybe more UT, as I can actually play it tho

To be honest both Madden and NBA 2000 **** on both Quake(W/2/3) and UT IMHO - Really MAdden r0x0rs!

As the lad said play what you like. The Irish gaming communiy is small enuf without breaking into factions and in fighting starting!

In all fairness dev you posted that the bots were 'easy money' a term which I took exception to, in my mind telling people that tells them that they were/are easy or inferior in some way. Experienced is the 3rd of 7 skill levels. That was the point I was trying to make in my response to you.

I do not feel 'UT People' are 'getting desperate' the nature of the Irish Gaming community, IMHO, is that it has always had dug into factions, a sad fact, I believe that no game will ever bridge that. Some people are over reacting to points and 'defending a corner' in reality they should not have to bother defending as a result. The point is that not every comment is a carefully thought up swipe at some other game or community. But that is the way some comments from some people are treated.

While I freely admit to prefering UT I do not think I have been even remotely close to as die hard and one sided as you tend to make out (tho I prolly would say that would'ent I ) I just comment on the debate in question and make my own opinion felt.

Just for the record, and for historical fact and all that, if you care, I give my opinion of Q3A over on Hobbes post on Q3 being out in America, if you care to read that, and you will be shoched to see that yes I do like it. I quote myself "It (Q3A) is the best looking game *EVER*" I really like it, but freely admit to prolly being Ireland's worst player at it tho

Urrrr Tom I never even posted on this topic, about the only thing I've said about Q3 at all recently is that I'm dismayed by the design of the CTF levels - which is true, and doesn't exactly count as jumping down anyone's throat over it!

If anyone is going to be accused of that kind of thing, it's the faction (and I agree with Vagga on this, Irish gaming is factions and sadly always will be...) of Q3 hardcores who insist on constantly insulting and berating UT players.

Fact is, I *like* Q3 in a lot of ways, but I just don't feel that it touches the gameplay and variety of UT. Thats my opinion - but I'll probably play both, UT competitively with my clan, and Q3 just for the laugh.

Personally, i reckon the whole faction thing is fantastic.

I think the 'community' as a whole benefits from factions and that anyone who intends to play both games should have a yellow cross painted on his back so we can identify and stone him should he ever emerge into the public eye.

I think i speak for all Clan CM when i say any of us would willingly lay down our own lives to preserve the honour of the Clan - such is the weight we place on Games and Gaming in our lives.

I think I definitely prefer watching Q3 than UT, I've been looking at quake1 for years now so I think its just a natural progression for me to Look at the same people playing Q3. Also, UT just doesn't seem to generate the same amount of interesting articles available for me to read on the internet than Q3 does...I've even found the descriptions of Q3 demos so much more exciting. That said, at the end of the day, I'll still watch a bit of quakeworld being played, nothing beats looking at someone playing CA for a few hours.
