Finally!!! Got a connection. Damn its a busy one though, Its comming in at 2.57KB/Sec instead of 12-15KB/Sec. I wont be able to see/play it until I get back into work tomorrow. A few extra levels, I think i'll take it home tomorrow

btw lads, don't forget that you can't 'distribute' this to yourselves via cds, hdds or floppies. Maybe set up a serial connection from work to your house...

Me and Regi spent an hour playing multiplayer and against bots too. (regi won.. booo)

Mmm Bots roxor alright. Nasty and smart. They also slag you and compliment you depending on how you are doing...

Its HARD to see your enemy a lot of the time (roll on all bright skins or something similar).

Strafe jumping is back and then some.

LG is very very like the UT green gun. Feels sweet and has a "push back" element to it.
mmmm!

Rockets seem better but the levels are so big that selecting what weap you are holding is a big part of winning.... time for devore to lose his crap config

Beyond that I think we may have a winner... if this game takes off it could be the start of another golden age. Maybe.

This is deffinately a "get it on a magazine cover job" for me. I remember downloading Q3test at work and zipping it to over 20 disks. Must have been mad. Never again.

Team Play with Bots
In Quake3 Arena you can control all the bots on your team. You can, for example ask them to defend a location, conduct a patrol, cover your back, as well as many other useful actions.

Communicating with bots is only possibly in Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. The only way your bots will listen to you is if you use the command team_say. Team_say is much like the talk command but only your team mates can hear you. The default team_say key is ‘Y’

The first command you need to give your bots is, "I am the leader" this puts you in charge and everyone starts listening to you. If you don’t want to be leader anymore pass leadership on to a bot by saying, "Grunt you are the leader". Or just give up leadership all together and let the bots figure it out by saying, "I quit being the leader".

For the examples below I use Grunt and Ranger as the names. These names can be replaced with anyone on your team.

Start up a game with Grunt and Ranger on your team and practice with these commands.

/say_team I am the leader -You are now in control of your bots
/say_team grunt follow me - Grunt now follows you wherever you go
/say_team ranger camp the rl - Ranger will now go to the rocket launcher and defend it
/say_team grunt dismiss -Grunt will now stop following you and roam freely
/say_team grunt patrol from ra to rg - Grunt will now patrol from the red armor to the rocket launcher
/say_team ranger report - Ranger will tell you that he is camping the rocket launcher
/say_team ranger follow grunt -Ranger will now patrol with Grunt.



Actions can be given to multiple bots by including (and | , ) between the bots you want to command. For example:

/say_team grunt and ranger camp here
/say_team grunt, ranger camp here
/say_team grunt and ranger follow me

General Group Commands

/say_team everyone follow me
/say_team everybody follow me
/say_team everyone camp here

** Note: You can not give the message /say_team everyone follow grunt because Grunt will try and follow himself.

Squads and Sub teams

You can form squads within your team. Commanding the entire squad by addressing them with the squad name you indicate

An example of squad forming.

/say_team grunt and ranger are in squad beta - Grunt and Ranger are now in the squad called beta
/say_team beta follow me - Grunt and Ranger will follow you.
/say_team grunt leave your squad -Grunt leaves squad beta
grunt (and | ,) Ranger are in (team | squad) alpha

CTF

Giving your bots commands in CFT is very important. One thing to remember is letting a bot become the leader and listening to them is sometimes the best strategy.

All the above commands work in CTF Plus
grunt (get | capture) the (red | blue | enemy) flag
grunt (get | capture) (red | blue |enemy) flag
grunt (defend | guard | camp) the base <-friendly flag


If a bot is the team leader and you forgot what you have been ordered to do then just type one of the following and the leader will tell you.

For these you do not need to address the leader directly.

/say_team what is my command
/say_team what should I do
/say_team what am I supposed to do
/say_team what is my job

Some examples for CTF:

/say_team I am the leader
/say_team grunt defend the base
/say_team ranger capture the enemy flag

Synonyms are available for most items:

Red armor = ra
Yellow armor = ya
Shotgun = sg
Machinegun = mg
Grenade launcher = gl
Rocket launcher = rl

Man, I have become such a nerd...

...got home after work last night at about 8, found a really fast link to the demotest, set off the download...a couple of mates called over (who don't really 'dig on those puter games'), and as soon as the download was done at around 9:30pm, I was gone into the other room, left them watching a vid, gave them a few beers and got myself dug into the demo...

...What has become of me? Am I obsessed with Q3A? I used to such a social person...

Anyone try the maps that were working with version 1.08? Do they still work?

The bots are way better than UT's as regards emulating human behaviour on the higher skill settings

I noticed iD gave us loads of kewl CTF bot commands to use, and no CTF map?!?!?! Anyone got a CTF map that can be used?

emm i played the bots on the skill below nightmare, it just did all the maps up to q3tourney and then stayed on q3tourney about 5 times.. i even got a perfect on the bot and it still wouldnt end the game.. so i got bored and played it on nightmare on q3tourney and it did the same.. do you have to beat it like 20 times in a row or something before it gives you the cinematic??

The bot command system is cool, although they could do with a little more innate teamplay intelligence.... and a voice menu, a la Tribes or UT, would be very useful as well, given the complexity of the command interface....

Shame the rest of the game is a bit on the sucky side, although the new lightening gun is an improvement over what we saw in the test. Then again, poking people with pointy sticks beats the LG in the test.

It's still bugged to bits. One rumour says we won't see it on the shelves until the new year. Commercial common sense says they'll do like they did with Q2 - release a piece of crap for Christmas, and make people download a 50Mb patch in January.

Like the Rail now bar the ****ty reload time, extented bot commands are nice, but overall still doesn't come close to UT.

just played it for the very first time (yeah, I'm a bit slow at catching up with these trendy things).

I have to say that I like it. The bots are good, not too hard (haven't tried nightmare and got kicked on hte level below that, but then again, I'm not exactly in the ninja bracket of quake ) and do make some interesting moves.

Reload of the beam weapons (both of them, rail and somethin else) is very slow though, but when you hit....

Are there any more maps available? I'd like to run around a few more, those four get a bit boring, the long yard one is fun, but too small.

shinji? bugged to hell? Err soz played it solid for an hour at lunch, no probs, plus a voice tree would b next to useless in an actual game, the binds are better as you can simulate what you would do in an actual clan match with bots.

I enjoy both games, but i'm unsure about the weapons and the levels in UT and how they will work in team game, be it ctf/dom/whatever.

i've been hassling vagga to put up demos of the uktl games, i'm interested in seeing what way the levels are played. perhaps i ain't played UT enough but i never got to the point where 1 or 2 weapons became my favorite, i always seemed to be able to go on killing sprees with any of the decent ones.
