well if you own the phone and are registered with the original network then you can ring them up and ask for them, there should be 2 codes, a code that unlocks to other sims of the same network, and a code that unlocks to other networks

however, if you cant do that youd have to obtain the codes from a slightly less legit place, none i know and i have a feeling that the forum charter doesnt allow you to mention them anyway

    sorry about that

Only if you've topped up by €130 since purchasing the phone&SIM. Free initial credit/Registration credit/upgrade credit not included.

Same for all three networks...well, Vodafone say €127 but where the hell do you buy €7 credit tell me??

The code you need is called the NUC- Network Unlock Code.

Well, if your phone is one of the newer Nokia phones (from the 3510i onwards I think) it can be unlocked by generating a code.

I'll try upload the program here, but if it doesn't work, look through the Wireless forum's for Unlocking and DCT4.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

so can you get programmes like that for all phones?

and that whole 130 thing is wierd, never realised it!!!
i was going to get the x1 and just put my old sim into it and throw away the other or use it for backup or something, but if i have to put 130 into it first i might not, ahh, sure We shall see!!

Funny, the folks and I were just having a conversation about unlocking phones at the weekend. It appears an employee in my Dad's place of work has a little sideline in this area with a number of people calling by with phones to have some sort of proceedure carried out in them!

A few questions. am I correct that a phone is locked to a network and not a particular SIM card i.e. you could swop Vodafone SIMS but not use an O2 sim.

Is it legal to unlock a phone and if not how is it covered in law?

Even though the operators subsidise the handset is it not anti-competitive for them to lock the phone. Afterall, this is preventing the subscriber from being able to choose the best priced operator.

most nokia phones from the 3310 backwards (DCT3 phones) can be unlocked by purchasing a cable from one of the many online stores (do a google for them) for less than 30 quid, and then getting some unlocking software (again do a search on google), but Rolis is a good one if you can find it, very simple to use, although because of the way Windows XP/2K deals with COM ports, you'll have to use Win98 to do it. I'd guess you could probably get software that will do it the same as the DCT4 phone too now.

newer nokia's can be more complicated (and expensive) to unlock via cables, but as has been mentioned you can now get software that will generate codes based on the serial (IMEI) number on your phone and a couple of other bits of info.

as for the legality of it all, it's very much a grey area with some european countries banning it, and others not bothered at all. not sure about ireland specifically, but if it's being done in high street shops, then I'd say it must be legal.

Guys its LEGAL to unlock the phone so it becomes SIM free (can take any SIM) once you own it, after all its your proprty to do with as you like! What is ILLEGAL is unblocking it once it has been blocked by the network(s), i.e. this usually happens once the mobile is reported stolen and or lost. There are laws in place in UK and elsewhere governing this but not sure if they have any in Ireland yet...

Has anyone managed to unlock a Sagem MyV65? I have searched and found others asking the question but could not find an answer...

I tried the attachment above to generate a code for a Nokia 6100 locked to Orange UK to see if it would generate the same code that I paid a tenner for about 6 months ago - with the right settings it worked pefectly!

Thanks for any help on the Sagem.

Ive seen kits for the MyX 2, 3 and 5 but not the MyX6 or 65 yet.
Fairly new phone to the market so may take a little while... like maybe a month! :)

i know a guy with a 8210(dual band) who wants to unlock it from vodafone so he can use it in america, and some website told him this is possibe(of course, they were selling the process for $7, so they would say that!)
but i was sure the dual/tri band is a hardware thing and if a fone is only dual band it cant be changed?
    am i right?
    cheers

They probablyh said they could "Unlock it" for him, I doubt they said ther could "Unlock it so he could use it in America".

You are right, the 8210 is Dual band and WILL NOT pick up signal in the USA.

It will turn on obviously, and once Unlocked will take a US sim, but it will not pick up any signal.

Tri Band phones are cheap these days tho, so it shouldnt be too much hasle to get one.

Meteor are selling the Nokia 3100 for €169 and that is Tri-Band.

Hmm. I tried that application to generate codes to unlock a vodafone nokia 3200. It makes eight codes. six gave "code error", and two gave "unlock failed". Does it need more than a simple application then ? Anyone manage to unlock one ?

You are not using it correctly.

If you have tried more than 5times, your phone can now only be unlocked by cable&relevant software as there is a limit set by the Network of 5attempts to unlock the phone.

The software funcitons perfectly, I have unlocked 2 3200s(one Voda, one O2), a 6310i and two 3510is with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭valen

D'oh. That's the type of stuff they should really mention in the documentation.

How can you "not use it correctly" though ? I just put in the IMEI number and network number, and it generated eight codes that didn't work, without telling me which ones to try. Sigh.

Its always the first code for irish providers. you have to have an active sim card in the phone to use the code's. so if your unlocking an orange phone you will need an orange sim card.

    Such a handy little program.

Not true. It has been the 7th code for 4 of the 5 phones Ive unlocked.
Each time I have done it there was no SIM in the phone. 1was locked to Meteor, 2 to Vodafone, and 2 to O2.

@Valen - instructions are included with that program - you just click the "Help" option.

Also, if you do even a small bit of research on the net for Unlocking phones you will find that info, and also that a lot of those programs are used "at your own risk".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭valen

Hmm. Fair enough. I've never used a "help" menu in my life, I usually just read the text docs. I suppose when a unix user tries to use a windows app, that's what happens :)

OK, there's 2 ways. The easy, and the hard.
I know a few of the fone shops do it. Go into a vodafone shop, explain what you want done, and show them the chip. Make sure the fone is on, or they may think that you've nicked it. Think it costs 25 yoyo's or so.

The hard way would be to link your phone up to ur PC.
Look @ here or maybe here, but u need to know how to use a PC, and where to get the parts needed yerself.
If you look @ the attachment, it'll show a connection in the green box. If your fone has this connection, it can be connected easily. If not, PM me the exact phone type, and I'll give you the phone manual (the one that shows you the internals of the fone). The manual will only be of use to those who know about fones (phreakers), or a few good eletronic people.

Can anyone tell me the mcc/mnc of the irish operators?
Where can i put unlock codes for Nokia Dct3 and DCT4?
    thanx to all

MCC is 272, Voda is 01. I would guess O2 are 02 and Meteor are 03... Quick check of www.gsmworld.com... Yes, that is right for the others.

    Thanx very much.
Why don't we start a new thread for unlocking codes?
Here we have Nokia, lg, maxon, vitel, ... code calculators. So people can write the phone imei number ( *#06# ) and the operator that the phone is locked and other ones can give them the unlock codes.
    what do you think?
    All for free, of course.
does it break the rules? let me know.

Cheers buddy... that calculator worked a treat.

By the by i musta tried it waaay more than 5 times and it still worked. Is it just that itll lock itself if you try it more than 5 times in a row or will it not work if you try it 5 times altogether (ie ya turn it off after 4 tries)

When I'm unlocking a Nokia I always use the 5th code ie the one ending with #5 .......

Works first time all the time !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,842 ✭✭✭steveland?

Mine took the first code generated no bother

Silly me was there for ages wondering why it wouldnt take vodafone (eircell) cos that was what the sim in it was when the phone was locked to meteor the whole time

Good idea Menka I'd second that idea !

Also Menka, some phones can be done by remote unlocking and some have to be done with a cable etc......

Would you know which ones have to be done with a cable etc ?

Or is there a site that gives this information ?

I think setting up a thread for Free remote unlocking & a thread for none remote unlocking would be a good idea ???

I get alot of phones passing threw my hands and most of them would be Nokia's which are easy to unlock !

But some I'd have to pay to get done - SE P900, M V600 etc etc etc !

If I can unlock a phone for free I will !

Being blocked by the network operator once stolen cannot be overridden on the phone as the GSM protocol defines an EIR (Equipment Identity Register). This register blocks on network attach centrally.

Generally, you get this response when you put in the incorrect code?

By the way, there is already an unlocking thread running here in Mobiles/PDA's. This one is gone very old now.
