    Ok folks,

I've just come back from watching Kill Bill there this evening. Had a reasonably pleasant evening and though the movie was enjoyable.

As per my usual routine i queued for popcorn and when the popcorn was placed on the counter i asked for butter....i feel popcorn with no butter is like larry without mo or curly. The attendant behind the desk informed me that they don't provide butter anymore.

This is utter crap. I mean its just crap. Is there anyone out there that feels the same way i do? I know i went into a cinema in london a couple of years back and got the same speil but its a very recent development here in dublin.

I have to say, it will seriously diminish my cinema experience if they persist in withdrawing their butte service.

Let me know what you all think....Vote!

without butter popcorn loses most of its appeal. I just made myself a big bowl there and used a quarter of a block of kerrygold on it..... mmmmmmmmmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭lodgepole

It isn't possible to eat that salty ****e without a bit of butter... Buttered popcorn is the only reason I ever set foot inside the UCI in Tallaght...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,537 ✭✭✭joseph brand

Salty dry popcorn cries out for butter.

You may need to bring in small kerrygolds(like in restaurant).

I remember UCI wouldn't let us bring in food from outside???

    had to buy their popcorn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Shred

Before Omni was renovated they also stopped doing butter and according to one of the counter staff it was because they had been sued by someone who had slipped on some in one of the cinemas:rolleyes:

Don't bother me arse getting popcorn if there's no butter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭Borzoi

Was it ever butter, or just some heated manky spread type stuff?

I got butter on my popcorn there about 2 weeks ago..

    so wonder what happened there???

    no fair.. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 985 ✭✭✭APM

I was also in Ster Century in the last couple of weeks and told they do not do butter anymore......very strange, i wud assume that alot of people would not buy the popcorn unless they could get butter.

    Petition time? lol

i'm going to Ster Century tonight to see the Matrix... god i hope they are back to providing butter.. i hate eating popcorn without it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,070 ✭✭✭hedgetrimmer

100% agree that butter is *so* needed with popcorn... maybe you should ask to see the manager about bringing your own butter in. Then again, I never thought of Ster as a classy joint anyways

Gazza, i foolishly didn't interrogate the assistant regarding why they don't provide the butter anymore.....will you ask why and post up mate??

    Cheers

I didn't think so many people liked butter on their popcorn! I can't stand the stuff - butter that it - and much prefer popcorn on its own with a big tub of Coke to cure any thirst. They compliment each other perfectly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,676 ✭✭✭ArphaRima

I refuse to go to cinemas then they pull that sh"t. I like my nachos and cheese in the UCI (only in the UCI, tastes crap elsewhere). When there's no cheese i argue with the manager then leave.

The majority of people I know who order cinema food eat their popcorn with butter. There's a market for it, so why the hell arent they giving it?

I know in the UCI the staff sometimes lied to you and said they were all out of butter towards the end of the night if they couldnt be arsed putting on a new load of butter. Just tell them you'll wait for the new batch to be cooked up.

Popcorn without Butter is like health food, yuch!

    I need my lipids

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

No butter or HotDogs in Ster anymore people, can you guess why.

    Next it's the nacho cheese.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,919 ✭✭✭✭Gummy Panda

Cause some old bitch fell and probably broke her hip for the sixth time.

Should just put up a disclaimer so they can sell the food. Next it will be coke and other soft drinks as you can slip on them aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

I hate the fact that 1 out of every 4 times i go to my local cinemas (northern ireland) they never have salted popcorn just sweeT!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Lord Nikon

I must agree with the majority here, yes they should have butter. I'd like to add that I don't get popcorn in Ster for the reason that they do the best damn Nachos & Peppers in the country, and I just have to have them. But saying that, if they didn't do Nachos(god forbid) I'd be buying the popcorn and some butter.

OMG, popcorn is basically sposed to come with butter, but they ask do you want any because of "wierdos"
gawd.... popcorn without butter is like..
    ...a fish without a bicycle

Am i the only one who doesn't get the "fish without the bicycle" thing???

Also, is it not likely that what they are slipping on might infact be "coka cola", or "fanta" or another "soft drink"? Did someone dip their finger into the goo on the floor and taste it and realised that was infact the butter.

Yea the butter makes that over-priced cinema popcorn worth buying.
But i never buy food at the cinema anymore far far far far to overpriced

    i know :( i got a large coke today for 3.20...... total ripoff :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Lord Nikon

Yeah, the prices have all gone up. There are new Combo things, but they seem to make no sence, price wise.

I recommend getting a Megabucket (a wonderous bucket filled to the brim with wholesome, sweet chicken) which can be bought at KFC. You can see the jealousy of everyone in the cinema with their popcorn (minus the butter, of course).

Dip my finger in the goo on the floor and taste it

    No way!!

Teenage lovers go to the cinemia to make out and sometimes do other stuff, so i would be wary of what that goo was.

Mmm, maybe I'm reading some posts wrong. I was given the impression that the counter-servers(empoyees), were complaining about the butter. I wouldn't expect it was the customers.
Maybe 1 or 2 people would complain about that, but it would want to be an aweful amount of butter to cause someone to slip on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭gazzer

well i was at Ster Century last night and they had nachos (which i got with cheese sauce) but they had no peppers to go with it. Then i asked for Butter on my popcorn and the girl said that they dont do it anymore. i asked her why and she just said it was a management decision.

there's only one better thing than butter on popcorn:
if you make it at home, melt a large chunk of butter in a pot with loads of golden syrup. then pour it all over the popcorn and let it sit for about a half an hour (that's the hardest part) and then it's all yummy and gooey and sweet.

i don't entirely understand the concept of popcorn without butter. it makes it so dry. even if you're having salted, it's always better with butter.
i do put butter on my sausages, eggs, pancakes, waffles and pretty much everything else though.

when i was little, i used to eat butter on its own.
    does my vote still count???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

UCI cheese is the king of cheeses. Its finger dipping good.

Nothing better than sticking a few nachos in it for a while, and making them soggy with all the cheese.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,276 ✭✭✭Memnoch

if you guys think that UCI has the best nachos then you are SERIOUSLY deprived... do me and yourself a favor and go down to Acapulco's on George's Street. Go order a Nachos Supreme (without sour cream imo) and eat Nachos the way they were MEANT to be. After a bowl of that stuff, you will never want to eat Nacho's anywhere else again.

I've had UCI a few times out of a desperate need for nachos and hunger meself, but they don't compare..

at 5 euro 60 cents it rocks...

(btw I think Acapulco should be paying me to promote their food like this) but i just love it so freaking much.

I think i'll take the gf there for dinner tomorrow, before watching revolutions ;)

Don't get popcorn, it's bad for you. Just get nachos, loads of salsa and some green peppers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,488 ✭✭✭SantaHoe

Ich' no, buttered popcorn is the tool of the devil...
Can't stand the smell of it, reminds me too much of diahorrea :(
I agree with Neo, nachos are the only way forward... jalepino peppers and a gallon of sprite ;)

You should be shot. No last cigarette, request or last meal. Just taken out and shot. You ever pull out a KFC in any cinema I go to, there WILL be trouble.

Would you prefer if I pulled out a chicken curry and boiled rice on a plate. That would be the better of the two. Oh, and I don't smoke.

    I'm getting mixed reactions here.....

In my perfect cinema <begin FilmNazi rant>
everyone is seated before the lights go down. There are no ads, trailers or stupid 'message-verts'. There is no eating or talking after the film has started Anyone who's phone is even on is ejected from the movie There is a short, intelligent introduction to the movie, hopefully by the director

But that's why I go to film festivals.

But for the love of god, even at the Ster....If you wanna eat chicken, stay at home and watch TV. Have SOME respect.

I don't watch movies in your restaurant, don't eat smelly ****e in my cinema.

Woop-dee-do, you go to film festivals. If you don't like the smell of food in cinemas, don't go. You have the choice whether to eat or not. I wish there was films in a restraurant, that would be cool.

Oh, do you own the cinema.

    Freedom of choice

    My cinema

Read my post again...I was talking about 'my perfect cinema' but as far as I am concerned it is MY cinema when I pay the price of a seat. I am there to ...doh! WATCH THE FILM! Not to eat, talk, make phone calls, or discuss what happens next loudly with my mates.
If you don't like the smell of food in cinemas, don't go

Last time I checked there were no KFC outlets at Ster Century. It seems reasonable that I should not to have to put up with the smell of ****ty fried chicken. By the way, I would applaud the cinema kicking you out for that. Not only is it inconsiderate but they don't sell it, so don't make money on it.

    Freedom of choice

Great. You choose chicken. I choose to unleash smelly curry farts all through the film as I sit behind you. If you move I will exercise my freedom of choice to follow you. I will also exercise my freedom of choice to remove my shoes and 6 day old socks, and hang my socks on the back of your seat. Then I will exercise my freedom and preference for Gorgonzola sandwiches and Sprite. My resultant foul belches will 'add' to your enjoyment of the film.
Let's try it and see how far through the movie you get. What film do you want to see?

That is now my goal in a Harry Potter movie (if I ever get dragged into one)

    @ madsL, well said. :D:D

I know only too well the power of the foot covers(socks).

    @neuromancer
    Freedom of choice????
Ye can't 'choose' to sit up straight with hat on and big noggin in front of everybody, 'choose' to leave phone on, 'choose' to take pants off, 'choose' to bring your boyfriend and kiss all thru film???

There are a lot of things ye can't 'choose' to do, its called consideration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Ster Century is mostly ok. If somehow you manage to get an empty viewing, and there's no-one sitting immediately to the front, back, left, or right of you, then it's grand :)

Butter on popcorn sucks really. It's not even proper butter, it's just some greasy **** made to taste roughly like butter.

I suggest closing this thread, it's gone off-topic.

    pfff
popcorn with no butter is much drier and saltier, thus forcing you to buy one of their overpriced drinks

    simple.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭LoneGunM@n

I used to eat popcorn without the butter & always ended up drinking 2 large drinks 'cause of all the salt .... now I can't eat it without butter!!

For some strange reason I still guzzle down 2 large drinks :D:D:D ... really pisses the gf off, 'cause I've always got them finished before she gets thirsty :D:D:D
