I'm slightly disillusioned with Championship Manager at the moment. Despite the fact that I still play the most recent one, and would easily rate all the games in the series as my favourite games of all time, it really was difficult to ignore the bug fest that was Championship Manager 4. SI's biggest mistake was publically declaring that they were not going to make another patch for the game, despite the fact that there were (and still are) a number of crippling bugs still in the game. It really seemed like they were making everyone feel lucky to be getting a patch at all. I found it very condescending, and arrogant.

Having said that, I will begrudgingly give my cash to SI for their latest installment, but I will be mightily pissed if the stats bug is still there, as I felt it ruined every game I played in CM4.

True the flaws ive encountered in cm4 are as follows:

    1) training was a ****ing joke...this was just an absolute piss take. It did nothing for the players at all and was a stupid implementation because of how utterly useless it is.

    2) Inaccurate stats for numerous relatively unknown players.

    3) Pre EP5, the game was just ripping the piss. ABSOLUTELY UNPLAYABLE unless you like it when it says you were knocked out of the African cup even though you just went through to the next round of the champions league.

    4) Unrealistic awards in every sense

    5) 2d was awful sometimes to look at. Im sure everyone who has played at least two hours of cm4 has encountered the "throw the ball to the opposition so blatantly" bug aswell as players just standing still and letting the opposition take the ball.

Probably because it was CM4 as opposed to CM3 02/03.

Sorry to disappoint ye lads but I don't think there is another Championship Mannager coming out.I was in Smyths today and I asked. They said that there is no other Championship Manager game coming out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

I wouldnt take Smiths word for anything. Quote from www.sigames.com - "Championship Manager: Season 03/04 will be released on November 21st 2003 and can be purchased online for as little as £17.99 from Amazon or £24.99 from Gameplay". Looking forward to it already...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭Brian O'Leary

But how come I have heard nothing about it.And if Smyths don't have it well then who have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭Brian O'Leary

Well I checked out Sigames.com and I can't see where the release date is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭BKtje

Well the vaggabond would know better than Smyths surely? I'd take his word for it :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

There's stuff about 03/04 all over the front page. It's the last CM to be made by SIgames.

Why would vaggabond say a game is great if it didnt exist, and why would we have a thread called next championship manager if it didn't exist.

Use your head man and open your eyes.

Irish games stores are crap and expensive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

I've preordered it so hopefully it does indeed exist.

Although I wouldn't consider ep5 CM4 to be perfect the fact is that it is both perfectly playable and hugely enjoyable and does not suffer from any crippling bugs in my opinion.

I love it. SIgames are welcome to more of my money.

play.com is such a wicked place to buy stuff from. CM 03-04 is a brilliant buy for 17:99.

Anyone have any problems with CM4 being really slow ??

I gave up playing it after a while because of how slow it was. Just hoping the new one is quicker !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 811 ✭✭✭Ronaldo7

its your pc. It wont be quicker unless you get a good pc with about 512mb ram and a decent processor i.e over 2ghz and p4 or Athlon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

The fact that it bring CPU usage up to 100% means everything slows down.
Close other applications that you dont need while playing, might give you a boost.
You should not need 2ghz to run a game like CM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,518 ✭✭✭matrim

I've only ever had one problem playing with a p3 1Gz and 512 ram. If you keep the number of leagues you play down. I play 3 leagues, at the moment english spanish and scottish.

The only problem is sometimes it takes a while for the 2d pitch to catch up with the writing but I put that down to having a crap graphics card.

Although I've seen it played on an amd k6 500mhz and that was unplayable. It would take 5 - 10 mins to go through matches being played only having one league set up

Is that 17 euro or English pounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    £17.99 Sterling.

its the best cm series by far!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 811 ✭✭✭Ronaldo7

not that anyone here cares nor do i care if you care or not, but i wont be paying that for a game that should have been CM4 in the first place. Ill just eh...play it in my friends house instead...(yes thats it...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭Brian O'Leary

How much is £17.99 in Euro? And is Play.com a safe way of buying games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

It's a bit over €25 and delivery is free. I've always found play to be very reliable.
