Help With New Set-up

    Hi,

I currently have a Sky System, and want to upgrade to get more channels from all the other sat's flying around up there.
I want to leave Sky pointing at 28E so I can still get the football.

This leaves me with the option of a multi lnb, one dish setup. The following is what I hope to do:

    90cm Dish with 3 x LNB, So I can point at 13, 19 and 28.

Obviously I will need a digital receiver to run 13 and 19 and use my digibox for Sky on 28.

Now to me this all seems to make sense, but I've never set anything up like this before so have a few questions for the more knowledgeable members.

    1. Do I need a 90cm dish. What make is recommended?
    2. What type of LNB's should I get. (0.3 or 0.6- what is the difference)?
    3. Is there anything else on 28, should I get a multi LNB for 28 and split the signal to receiver and digibox.
    4. Will I be able to install this myself?
    5. What digital receiver would be good. I cannot decide between Manhattan, Technomate or Echostar. They all seem to be well recommended on other sites. What experiences do you have?

Sorry if this is like a million questions!

The 0.3dB LNBs are not better. Quite ordinary 0.6dB are fine, I get excellent Turksat on a 1.0 dB

Some heavy cloud or next size dish is a MUCH bigger change than 1.0 to 0.3 dB

    90cm is fine

I have two 80/90cm offset dishes of unknown orgin (old Sky Analog dishes I got for free) each with 3 LNBs. One LNB on one dish is the Sky LNB with the plastic stalk cut off and filed smooth to fit on a normal clamp.

The non-Sky box needs Diseq switch at dish to select more than one LNB. A four way "Global" brand is good value.

Point the dish at 19E, the LNB on the arm is Astra1s @19E. Just beside to east is LNB for Hotbirds (slightly lower and slightly titled up) and about 4" to 5" spaced to west and raised more and slightly tilted down compared with LNB on arm is Astra2/Eurobird/Sky at 28.2E

Originally I used a ordinary metal strap but later bought an "offical" offset bracket for 28E.

    Check adverts in What Satellite,
    Also www.satellite.ie (Tony) and
    www.satcure.co.uk (Martin Pickering)
    (Both helpful)

One dish has Sky Digibox and two analog receivers and the other dish feeds a non-Sky Digital Receiver via a 4 way diseqc.

I sold my minidish to a caravan owner.

You could get a twin or Quad for 28.2 and use the Sky LNB for 19 or 13E as there are many excellet FTA channels on Sky. (Taping BBC/TCM for timeshifting at Christmas). My PC records FTA channels direct to disk using a Digital Satellite card with TV out that feed the Living room (even an IR remote in to PC in Living room).

I haven't experenced these. Though they are well spoken of. They have some PVR dula tuner models too.

Get a model with CI as it is only a bit extra and means you can if desired subscribe later to Canal+, ABSat, Dutch or Swiss FTV schemes etc without having to buy a new receiver.

I'm just curious as to how you 'attach' the second LNB Watty. I have now pointed my dish at 28.2E to pickup the BBC, etc. I have a spare LNB - but wonder how you have hung that second LNB out there in front of the dish..
