Anyone else looking forward to this?

Just saw the trailer on Yahoo Movies and it looks great. Particularly the scene where the child comes home from school in the middle of a cat fight.

I think its gonna be another classic Tarantino film.

The trailer is at : http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1808404742&cf=trailer

just checked out the ster century website and apparently it is going on general release on friday 17th october.

    Ster Century

i really cannot wait to see this film - 6 years is waaaay too long to wait for a tarantino movie!! it has already gotten some really excellent reviews (including the one from 'aint it cool news' which was posted above, and too me about half an hour to read)!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭patch

Johnathon Ross couldn't praise it enough last night.
    It won't be long now!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 625 ✭✭✭ThreadKiller

It's a really well made movie, a return to tarantino's well worn style but with wire work in it as well (which although done really well I don't know if I agree with in a tarantino movie - not that it's gonna make any difference either way), the ending is a little abrupt though...

    There's a LOT of blood.

Is it going to split in two here?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 johnpl

where did you see it ThreadKiller??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 625 ✭✭✭ThreadKiller

It is split in two Draco (that's miramax's call)

It was at a press preview johnpl.

BTW - the opening scenes, rough & extreme as they are... utterly compelling, car crash cinema.

Every interview I've read with Tarantino (and in the past two weeks, there have been a lot of interviews with Tarantino), he's been saying that the idea of cutting the film in half was his own, since he had a 220 page script to begin with. Miramax just gave him the go-ahead after he suggested they cut it in two rather than try to cut the film down to a more bearable run-time.

Uma Thurman didnt seem to be too impressed with it being turned into two movies when asked about it on Johnathon Ross last Friday.
Personally, i just hope this isnt the future for 3 hour films with studios thinking they can just split a film in two and get twice the box office.

Nah... that'd never happen... film studios are morally firm & upstanding... that'd never think of something like that !!!

Whats supposed to have happened is Weinstein suggested the idea of turning it into two movies to Tarintino. But it was Tarintinos choice.
The version were getting is heavily cut compared to the Japenease version which is sixteen minutes longer than the American and European version.

Where did you read that? I'm just curious since I just checked the BBFC who say it was passed uncut with a run time of 110min30seconds. That could suggest that it was never submitted in it's longer form, I just hadn't read that anywhere.

Jesus if the film is half as good as Harry's review then it will be an instant classic.

Must watch the repeat of Jonathan Ross's review tonight.

    Von Empire...
He's also completed his 'Japanese cut', an identikit version apart from two scenes of particularly gruesome gore. "The Japanese can handle that stuff better. They just think it's funny," he observes.

i thought jonathan ross' interview with uma thurman and tarantino last friday night was hilarious.
i cracked up laughing when ross tried to say the films tagline - "a roaring rampage of revenge".
which came out as, "a woawing wampage of wevenge"!!
at least the guy is able to make fun of himself!!
then there was the pictures of him in the yellow suit in various situations around the house!!

there's a few clips from the movie up on the following webpage (you'll need real player to view them).

    CineMovie Kill Bill

can't wait to see the whole thing!

I read that it was being cut in both Empire and Total Film. I also heard it in a itervew Tarintino gave. Not sure what show it was on.

I am a tarantino fan but this is rubbish and i mean uther crap, def not for me and i can't see where the reviews come from. Cartoon style is unqiue but thats all.

Tip wait for the dvd or video! I loved Pulp Fiction but this NO!

If you want a Pulp Fiction film then watch Pulp Fiction.

The mark of a good director is that each film is different, not a slight rehash of what they've done before.

Anyway, Kill Bill will still have Tarintinos' trademark style. I remember people whinging about Jackie Brown when it was first released because it wasn't another Pulp Fiction - but now it's rated along side his other excellent work.

Sure, half the problem with Hollywood is that they have recycled the same tired clichés for years and people are looking for something new which captures your attention.

Christ, I for one am glad he's decided to try different things. The world would be a pretty boring place if all the directors just remade the same films again and again.

He's not going to top Pulp Fiction with this. Who cares? It's going to be fun, violent and funny. Stay at home and watch PF again and again if that's what you want.

I'm glad he's done this. I loved his films before, and for a while now I've been watching ultra-violent Japanese films (so much fun!), glad to see he has the same tastes as me :)

i thought this was being released on the 10th but cant find a listing for it in any cinema or a release date anywhere. anyone know when its being released??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 johnpl

it's being released on friday 17th october.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 811 ✭✭✭donhughberto

Ok how many people have actually seen the film, most people haven't and still have options, thats silly.

I have saw the film and i am a big fan of his work but it didn't amuse me at all. It was without a doubt different and the style is all tarantino but the storyline and cartoonish way didn't appeal to me, it may do to others.

What i am saying is go watch and if you like you like but don't judge a film on a director with god status, thats the main reason Stephen King can sell millions of crap books these days as he has allready got the name.

I know thats off topic but i only buy what i like regardless, pulp fiction was a classic and he will never go there again but he has had many good films including jackie brown, which was mentioned. Judge Kill Bill for Kill Bill not Tarantino!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,167 ✭✭✭Shad0r

I saw it on an extra big IMAX screen there the other day and loved it.

No its not Pulp Fiction, its a revenge tale. Tarantino's films have always been more about storytelling than storyline and I dont think Kill Bill will let anyone down in that regard.

I loved it but then again I've really enjoyed every film that Tarantino's done to date. Pulp Fiction had more humorous dialogue scenes whereas Kill Bill I think Tarantino is trying to find more humor in excessive blood and gore. In attempting to pay homage to the Kung-Fu movies he watched as a kid it isnt possible for him to not be doing something a bit different than you might usually expect from him. His unique storytelling technique is still there though. I'm looking forward to vol. 2.

If your hoping to see Pulp Fiction, go to the video store and rent it. If Pulp Fiction is the only Tarantino movie you've seen I'd highly recommend renting Resivoir Dogs and Jackie Brown aswell and watching them first. If you like kung-fu movies and you enjoy the way Quentin Tarantino makes a movie (and for that matter you dont mind gallons of blood ;) ) go see Kill Bill.

saw it last night in the film fest and it roCks.
the dialogue isnt as quotable as pulp fiction but its still class. .
dont go expecting big speechs and big plot>>

the characters are still cool ..especially chiaki kurayama .. .gOgo.
and anime chapter is also class. .the animation is almost identical to blood the last vampire. .which is not a bad thing..

There is only one really noticable cut.. in the hostpital. .
and the only other cut i heard of is not a cut really but a color change. .less red and therefor less chance of the nc-17 rating. .
there are probably one or two more.. but even with these scenes there were still alot of people cringing around the place>OH ..and he may go there again ..

I was lucky enough to see this last week in London - all I can say is WOW and I mean WOW. The soundtrack is absolutely awesome - I went out and bought it right after leaving the cinema.

Uma has really gone up in my estimation after this movie - she was brilliant. Unlike Matrix:Reloaded the split into 2 movies isn't as drastic and Vol 1 actually has you leaving the cinema content - but still anxious to see the next one.

The fight scenes are more believeable than the Matrix and there is a lot of dry humour mixed in.

The animation scene half way through is also brilliant and typical QT. Man this guy knows how to serve up a movie.

I am going to see it again and again once its released here - cant wait.

No epilogue for me either. Was I ripped off by UGC or did I get something wrong?

Well, whatever. This film is truly stunning. One of the best and most beautiful I've seen in a bit. Plenty of spine-tingling moments, ridiculous fight scenes, disturbing moments, wry humour and superbly creative cinematography. In short, fukking brilliant.

Great movie alltogether. As always Tarantino gets a perfect* soundtrack and stays away from CGI as much as possible.

    Contains minor spoilers.

em, it wasnt that good. It was an exciting example of a director trying to pay homage to an exciting set of films.

    BUT...
I think it was poorly edited for a start, far too much cutting going on, not enough free flow in the fight scenes, too much close ups of swords flying over heads to actually get a good sense of the action.

While I totally understand it was shot in ways to pay homage to years of kung fu movies, that doesn't mean I have to like it.

High points: The whole music/sound effect dealy when she meets people she's gotta kill. (ie. when vivica fox opens the door on her) thats a classic, I thought that was brilliant.

Also, that whole scene with vivica was excellent and showed classic tarantino - fantasy action getting bogged down by reality. It's a pity this is the opening scene as I think it was one of the film's strongest, and other scenes in the movie aren't as compelling.

Low points: The juxtapositioning (ooh big words) of all the parts of the movie. With the chapters et all, it just got annoying - where'd she get the money for the flights blah blah blah. Everyone is supposed to go "ooooh, this is sooooo clever cause its kind of non-linear, but **** that, i think it would have been better if the story was just TOLD. It felt far too cut & paste.

I thought the fight at the end in the snow was flat to say the least, and as the last action scene in the movie kinda left the whole thing a bit empty.

Still, it's a nice movie, ultra violent, and I'd recommend you go see it, if only for the KICK-ASS swords. Soundtrack is very good as well.

I guess what annoys me is Tarentino going on and on in the press about wanting to prove himself as "the best action director" and he can't do an ok action film he has to do the BEST etc.

    Well, he didn't succeed.

I think the epilogue that people are talking actually occured before the credits where bill asks the french lady if
Uma knows her baby is still alive. I thought that was quite a twist and maybe it was moved from the end of the credits to the start ????

I saw the movie yesterday and it was superb. From the first scene to the last it grabs you and hardly lets go. Great use of music - I loved the scene where Lucy and her bodyguards are going through the restaurant.

The chapter with Vivicia Fox was probably the highlight of the movie and would definitely appeal to Pulp Fiction pick-a-quote fans.

I thought Daryl Hannah's brief role the Mountain Snake was cool and can't wait to see her return in Vol II.

Lucy Liu was wonderful and the fight with her bodyguards, particularly Gogo was excellent although
they seemed to die a little easily
    .

I do have one major gripe though - in the middle of the huge fight at the end everything goes to a grainy black and white for about five minutes and it spoiled the whole scene for me.

Also how she gets the pussy wagon was classic Tarantino.

    You're right, of course.
I saw Out of Sight when it first came out, and didn't see Jackie Brown until much later, on video. So I guess, in my mind, I thought they came out in that order.

His Out of Sight performance was so much better.

Saw this yeasterday. Thought it was good, but I don't feel as if I've seen the whole film. Ask me in a few months weather or not Kill Bill is any good...

...Vol 1 was alright, but where's the rest motherfu*ker!?

Went to see it AGAIN today and AGAIN loved it , its great fun , love the fancy cut and paste elements that some people are giving out about , he does things a lil differently than most directors , not afraid to use many dif styles etc , of course alotta the stuff in it can be seen in other movies but he has said its a homage from the start !

I cant wait to get the soundtrack , great great music , duH dUH DUH !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,443 ✭✭✭cartman

I saw this yesterday and thought it was just magnificent. The dialogue and plot was minimal, but what was there was very entertaining.

The fight scenes were wonderfully paced. I especially liked all the pauses that gave you time to properly digest what you'd just seen.

I really hate Lucy Lui but her performance was excellent, as was Uma's.

All in all it's the best movie I've seen in a while. The tongue in cheek style of the action was a wonderful antidote to the pomposity of the Matrix.

Ill assume it is because Quentin ran out of blood to use [10 gallons of pigs blood is the amount in the flim] so he needed to find a way to preseve it and do another unique directory which in this case is the black and white fight.
