god this is dumb. sellafield is never going to blow up. im not pro-nuclear power or anything but its not gonna happpen. stop getting paranoid and stop reading the tabloids or those idiot columnists in the times and indo who think theycan get a great name for themselves by being scaremongers.

but anyway in fantasyland.... id drive to clare and if the radiated mutant scangers from dublin came to get me and have to !get my shotgun fight them off zombie b-movie style !!

I don't read any of the rags you mention...

the thought was prompted by Bin Ladens recent announcement along the lines of 'you ain't seen nothing yet'...

I'd imagine hitting any nuclear plant accurately would result in some pretty nasty consequences...

And I'm glad you have such faith in the authorities that you think you can say 'never' with such confidence... that kind of faith, my friend, is what I would consider 'dumb'...

Chernobyl, 3 mile Island, Bhopal... ring any bells?

If the first space shuttle explosion had happened one mission earlier... we would have enjoyed the fallout from it's cargo of plutonium/uranium for oh, the next 1000 years or so...

Anyway, I'm just musing - I don't think it's likely either, just interested in if people have thought about it and what they might do...

Err... On another subject I was just reading The Guardian today, it contained an article what are the options of getting rid of or storing Britain’s 110,000 tonnes of nuclear waste. Some of which is currently in “…often poor-condition storage tanks that are rotting. “It’s a serious and urgent problem,” says Professor Geoffrey Boulton, a geologist and nuclear waste expert at Edinburgh University”…”

The article went on to say “…the risk of an accident, terrorist attack or other incident mounts with every year that passes.”.

O NO! The Guardian's cover page also rants on about the Saudis considering buying a nuclear bomb – scaremongers the lot of them!

do the simple thing, get on the next plane fly to another continent. We are too far away to fear direct radiation poisoning. fallout will take it's time to travel over to ireland, enough to safely land on a nice tropical island and build myself a hut from reeds, start smoking exotic herbs, lick poisenous toads then die happily 3 months later from malnutrition

Are you mad? Were the first landfall away from Selafield. BTW have you ever heard of Chernobyl? Half of Western Europe was contaminated with radiation poisoning.

For all those quoting there couldn't be a nuclear explosion - that is correct. I think we are more concerned with the radiation leak... again like Chernobyl.. but times 40.
