If this is this model (839), 69 is a very good price!
I've done a bit of research and the average price for it in Germany is 120€!
    http://www.aktueller-preisvergleich.de/Preisvergleich/DVD-Player/316456/Scott/dvd_839.html

I couldn't confirm (I can't read German nor Russian) if the 5.1 decoder output also in DTS or if DTS needs to be handled by an external decoder...?!

I just called them, and it appears it is that model.
You can buy with a credit card over the phone and have it delivered; I'm waiting on someone to call me back right now for just that purpose...

If yes, this is really a bargain!

Please let me know if you can get one and what is it like. I'm especialy interested by the DTS part!

I'm getting it tomorrow, so I'll have more info after the weekend, which I'll be glad to share.

I couldn't go yesterday, should be able to go saturday...

    Oneweb did you get one?
Do you know if Powercity also sell a Scott set of speakers?!

    Raphael

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 441 ✭✭colin300

I got myself one of these. All I can say is brilliant.
Except for the one flaw which is size and I mean it is bigger than an ordinary dvd player so if your trying to fit it in to a tight spot take measurement.

I have a Black Diamond multi region that Power City sells aswell and have to say the scott beats it. I have DVD-r cd's with family videos on them and the black diamond didn't except some of the dvd-r's.

Yep and don't know. Haven't started to look round for speakers yet.

Also, the player has a key-shift function (Higher/lower pitch sound effect) as well as zoom in/out, bookmarks(per disc session), and an on-screen Graphic Equalizer!

    Sweeeet! ww)

    It is what it's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 538 ✭✭✭raphaelS

I got mine... and I have the answer to my first question!
it decodes the DTS and output it to the speakers!

The equalizer is sweet, it also open Jpeg from a DVD-R!

Only issue, the power socket is a german/french... not a problem for me though as I had an adaptator

Does this machine play mp3 on dvd-r ?

    Joe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

one would assume if it can play it at all, the source shouldn't matter, especially if it can read DVD-R discs for other purposes.
it's all a stream of binary at the end of the day.

    Thanks for the replies.

The fact is most machines on the market will play mp3 on cdr but only a few will play mp3 on dvd-r. I have a dvd with 1,000 songs of all the number 1's since 1953. They are in directories by year and I want to be able to play the dvd in my sitting room rather than through the PC.

At this price - could you plug a couple of speakers into it & use it as a cd player?

    (I have no DVDs)

Can someone who's bought this confirm whether the power socket is continental or Irish?

Yes, though they'd have to be powered speakers.

It's a continental (2 pin) plug. U can get the adaptor in Powercity. Or just snip off the plug and wire in proper one.

    It is what it's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 935 ✭✭✭Mixie

Just bought one of these - what can I say other than I'm happy - especially at that price. Mine had (in the box) an adapter to convert the 2 pin to normal 3 pin plug too.

hmmm still meaning to get one.

by the the...if ye go to the Scott website ye can check out the full specs of it which look pretty damn good for 69 yoyos and they've got a cool little plugin that les u zoom in and rotate the pic of the player around. dead handy for zooming in on the ip\op ports on the back.:horned:

I picked one up tonight. its very nice, its a big bastard though. loadsa features on it too. only problem i have is when its on standby it kills the picture on my normal Tv stations coming in through coax. it if switch the dvd player off the picture comes back though. Hmmmm its weird and annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,177 ✭✭✭oneweb

Yup, it's an issue. Try connecting the scart via the VCR and use the VCR's scart out to TV. If you have a VCR, and the VCR has 2 scart sockets. Tune the VCR to DVD in and the TV to Video in. Easy! (heh)

    It is what it's.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 79 ✭✭pgernon

I dont have this dvd so I dont know if it will work. But this is a commen prob with multi region dvd players. The Alba argos sell for example. If the player has three pin output at the back ie Phono conections, go from those to a scart end and the problem will be fixed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

its using scart. from what im told there is a pin on the scart cable that controls its video cut in and if i remove it it will be problem solved so i might try that

    gar

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 79 ✭✭pgernon

That will ruin your scart. Try a lead with one end scart and the other 3 phono pins

Scott player sold out in Powercity - Coolock branch also, DMtech 350 player available for 69.95. very slimline and silver, plays vcd's , svcd's on top of whats listed on the box, not sure about what regions it plays, but theres a hack for Dmtech's other models on DVD reviewers site, seems good player, but no 5.1 output like the Scott player
