    would you get broadband from the same company ?
    and would you recommend them to a friend ?

    if your unhappy or are happy with your experience please say why, and what you think are the best and worst things about your type of Broadband.

    I just started with Netsource and so far am happy. Ask me again in a couple of months when they'll probably throttle me....

    Ping = 15-20

    Customers services = havent had to test
    Reliability = great
    Price per month = 90+vat

    ISP = Netsource
    Price = too high
    Ping = off the chart 200+
    Download speed = 128kbs
    Upload speed = 128kbs
    Customers services = crap, terrible, useless, sly, liars
    Reliability = average

    ISP = Leap
    Price = 120 inc vat pm
    Ping = 70-80
    Uncapped
    Download speed = 1/2mbit, regularily1.5->2mbit in the evenings
    Upload speed =1/2mbit
    Customers services = really excellant
    Reliability = good

    It's expensive and you can't get this residential package any more, but the customer service is great and they seem to have a policy of letting people use any unused bandwidth. I often get 2mbit in the evenings :)

    Oh and they allow me to share it with as many people as I want, so I share it with a few people over DubWAN. Most ISP's dont allow this.

    Re: How happy are you with your Broadband ISP

    Similar to Strat.
    Only downside is the price but it is the best Quality DSL service available as far as i can see if you can get it.

    ISP = Esat Business
    Price = Install was €75ish
    Ping = as low as 9ms to boards and under 20ms to jolt.
    Download speed = 512 (64k solid)
    Upload speed = 256K
    Customers services = havent had to test
    Reliability = great
    Price per month = €108.90 with vat.

    Aren't IBB - wireless and Irish Broadband the same thing?

    And, shouldn't there be seperate options for people on IOL BB RADSL and Esat BT Buiseness ADSL?

    anyway:

    ISP = NTL
    Price = €40 per month including modem rental
    Ping = 20-30
    Download speed =600k
    Upload speed = 128
    Customers service = great, helpful, very unlike the TV side of ntl.
    Reliability = Its never down, speed is always at 100%, pings are always stable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

    Irish broaband have 2 products, the LOS and NON-LOS, the non-LOS isn't released yet, so there should only be one option for IBB. (happy and unhappy)

    ISP = IBB Tallaght Tower
    Price = €50 per month now, droping to 30l
    Ping = 30 ish, it spikes about every 20th ping to about 120
    Download speed =512k
    Upload speed = 512
    Customers service = helpful and patient, even ring you back to make sure everything is ok
    Reliability = There have been probs inthe past when Tallaght was a new tower, but tahts all fixed. Pings relatively stable (always <80 to UK servers) but spike occasionally. Only been out twice for a total of 1 hour over the last month. that was when they were fixing the tower

    Customers services = none exsistant
    Reliability = good

    ISP = IoL residential
    Price = 49.49/month
    Ping = usually times out
    Download = rarely over 25-30kB/sec
    Upload = 15kB/sec
    Customer service = unprecedented disaster
    Reliability = ok?

    As you can see, i've always had average d/l speeds, managed to get the full what once (!) at 3am, and even browsing/surfing can sometimes seem like the 56k.
    I dont know why...

    Upload speed = 12-14kb/s
    Customers services = never had to call
    Reliability = Hasn't gone down beyond planned maintenance (even then it wasn't fully down).

    [DONT QUOTE - You didn't hear this from me]
    I know someone trialing the NON-LOS at the mo. Didn't work at first, however someone came over and tweaked the IIB transmitter or something and now its solid - pity that person couldn't go to Netsource :D. Anyway although its a 512mb service, he's getting up to 2mb from a test server before the internet feed. Beyond that it's variable from crap to 1mbit - but bare in mind he's trialing. The Internet feed is only 10mbits currently, however within the week (third hand info) they're upgrading to 266mbits (or there abouts). They're pushing to sign him up $$$, which I have no doubt he will, but he's waiting for the new pipe first . Gripe: www.google.com brings up the Dutch version.

    The best bit - he'd have been on some ADSL variant at this point only for Eircom want to charge E160 for uninstalling his Eircom Highspeed first. Idiots.

    Esat radsl have sorted themselfs im happy with them

    ISP = Esat radsl

    Upload speed = 128
    Customers services = fine once you get past the drones lol

    ISP = Eircom

    Download speed = 512
    Upload speed = 128
    Customers services = Great
    Reliability = Great
    Price per month = 108

    As much as it pains me to say it Eircom are great for dsl. The service is rock solid for nearly everyone and when it does go badly wrong (like it did for me recently) the support staff are great.

    ISP = Esat Business 512/256
    Price = too high
    Ping = 20 - 30
    Download speed = 512K
    Upload speed = 256K
    Customers services = Bad
    Reliability = Good
    Price per month = €108.90 incl VAT

    Took them 4 months to install (supposed to be UDLP they installed LS) & another 4 months to finally unbundle the line.
    Their accounts department is a farce - even by Irish standards.
    Its waaaay too expensive for a 512K service.
    Im hoping (like everyone else here) for a decent wireless service that send EsatBT & Eircom to their watery graves.

    ISP = Eircom
    Price = €50 (should be €30)
    Ping = 65-70
    Download speed = 52 KB/sec
    Upload speed = 13 KB/sec
    Customers services = mostly good. good engineers anyway
    Reliability = great (had one problem which started on xmas day, but that was it)
    Price per month = see above

    I'm happy with Eircom Residential DSL. The cap means I amn't sharing much of my bandwidth with b***y kazaa users, so i can get decent pings in games. The 6 gig cap doesn't bother me, I've used about 4 gigs in one month tops, most of that is probably bf1942.

    I'd prefer to give my money to someone like IBB, but for now, I'll stick with this.
    Anyone have experience with eircoms uncapped 1mb service. I'm thinking of moving from netsource to it

    Yes, we use it in the office. It's good, the pings are 50-60. The download speeds are a steady 100 KB/sec. It's just really, really expensive.

    No option in the poll for IrishWisp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ISP = IrishWisp
    Price = €49 per month
    Ping = 70 - 80ms to Jolt. (Not usually great pings for gaming)
    Download speed = 512 but usually runs a bit higher.
    Upload speed = 128
    Customers services = Excellent.
    Reliability = Excellent.

    Price = 49.49/month
    Ping = usually times out
    Download = 50-60kB/sec consistently
    Upload = never looked!
    Customer service = not used
    Reliability = very good. only had problems in the beginning but not a glitch since then. cept the resetting of the connectiong every 6 hours or so.

    ISP = Ireland Online
    Price = €49.49 a month
    Ping = I think IOL are blocking pings
    Download = 45 to 62kB/sec
    Upload = 14 to 16kB/sec
    Customer service = Surprisingly good overall
    Reliability = Used to disconnect every 4hrs but that seems to have stopped. Can't ping. Once or twice web pages "froze" (see here) on me.

    Ping = usually average about 600 - 700ms [Yes, Six Hundred]
    Download speed = See attached
    Upload speed = Not sure, I never upload stuff really
    Customers service = Pretty good, pity about the service itself!
    Reliability = Serious problems with interference that aren't going to go away. Service has been useless for about a month now. Browsing is a chore. Gaming is a distant memory.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

    Ping = usually average about 600 - 700ms [Yes, Six Hundred]

    Thats what it was like in the tallaght tower previously, and i thouht they'd never fix it. Now its pings of as low as 45 stably on my 512 connetcion, and a great download speed. Just keep ringing em about it, make sure they know you're having problems, and don't let em forget it! I rang em for nearly 2 weeks straight, and now its perfect.

    If you're getting consistantly bad download speeds something is up, I have never known IBB to leave a customer alone who has problems with their connection, they always rang me back and tried new things.

    ISP = NTL
    Price = €40 per month including modem rental
    Download speed =600k
    Upload speed = 128
    Customers service = Only needed it once. Pain in the backside to reach techsupport. Once talking to techsupport, problem was fixed in no time
    Reliability = Its never down, speed is always at 100%. 100GB DL in first 5 weeks (this is more than DL in 7.5 years of dialup)

    Presuming IBB wireless and Irish Broadband is the same thing, did anybody notice that the only service with NO unhappy customers is NTL :)

    I am thrilled with the service, now it's connected. I had insuperable problems with the modem they supplied, or more likely with the software that was to drive it, but I got a D-Link router and I've been on all week. No problems at all, and they've the best customer service I've ever experienced. They even put up with my whining when it didn't work immediately. ;)

    Have to admit it, that package is the really reliable. We have it installed in a site in Dublin, Its only gone down once in 13 months !!! for 30mins

    On the other hand my Netsouce connection has been down 3 times tonight alone. I'm glad I cancelled my account today

    Anyone have experience with eircoms uncapped 1mb service. I'm thinking of moving from netsource to it

    I cancelled my Netsource line a week ago and got the 1MBit uncapped from Eircom.
    I do like the service, but the pings are high (due to interleaving turned on high).

    Anyways, it is possible to play on it, I get about 65 ping to Jolt playing UT2003. The problem is only that to any other server I get 95 - 100 ping.

    I will keep this eircom line until I find something better (which really means a 1Mbit line uncapped with lower pings).
    If only IBB could get that Ballycoolin mast up!

    ISP = Esat Business 512/256
    Ping = 20 or under to UK; 40 to Germany, nl etc ; 45 to scandinavia/spain.

    Download speed = 512K (64kB/s steady)
    Upload speed = 256K (32kB/s steady)
    Customers services = Not had any need to ring. Pre-install service was very good
    Reliability =Excellent. Had no problems since i got it a month ago. They prompty fixed the capacity problems.
    Price per month = €108.90 incl VAT

    Took them 1 month to install after i ordered.
    They had some capacity problems which meant bad pings during business hours but they've gotten more bandwidth to the Uk and thats sorted. Only 33% of the upgrades complete but if it stays like this i can't complain at all :D

    Fairly expensive but the fact i ping as good or better than UK ADSL people to UK servers makes it worthwhile for me.

    Verdict: Can't complain about anything

    Price per month = 90+vat = €108 approx.

    I have to say that it is an excellent service, but it is far too expensive. I'm trying to get someone in to go halves, the only way I could afford it in the first place was to move to cheaper accommodation.

    It's prices like that which encourage piracy, people say feck sake there's only one way I can get €108 a month value out of this internet connection and surfing and gaming alone aint going to cut it, not by a long shot.

    Upload = 14k/b
    Customer service = Nice people. Shíte service.
    Reliability = Woeful

    Just got it installed today, after a few days of trying to tell the biddy that I COULD get it, even though her computer said I couldn't. CS was only used for details to set up e-mail. Just playing around with it so far, trying to resist the urge to d/l everything at once. Gaming is almost lan-like. Kazaa and BT are both happy with it.

    Had been using a shared DublinWAN link which was always either great or atrocious, never in between. Reliability eventually tempted me to NTL.

    ISP = Eircom I-Stream Starter
    Initial Price = Free (Spl offer to 31/12/03)
    Ping = Not required.
    Download speed = 512K.
    Customer Care: OK at Supervisor/Manager level only.
    Tech Support: 1550 (74c/min) good but too dear.
    Reliability = 100% rock solid so far.
    Price per month = 1 month free then €54
    CAP: 4Gb (unenforced, said to be 8Gb+ in reality).
    Best modem (Netopia 3341), simple network setup.

    Eircom Engineering/Technical excellent. Escalate any initial Sales/Service problems to Supervisor / Manager level immediately, otherwise head wrecking.
