    Ok,
So stage 1 of the operation is complete... we've forced them to put us on their list of candidates. (much to their disgust btw! most of the others are advertisers on their site you see...http://www.internetawards.ie/)

Anyhoo... Now we just have to actually *cast* our votes

    Go to http://www.internetawards.ie/election/votesiteform.cfm
Fill in your details and when they send you the mail just click on the link embedded in it.

I think the current leader after several weeks is on 6 votes so I think we can win this if we all vote smile.gif

It would be cool if people who vote just replied here to say "yup done it!" so that I know they dont try and cheat us.

    Thanks,
    DeV.

Edited so we dont restrict anyones freedoms...

Well Well mr. DeVore... I went to your "special" voting page and was sooo pleased to see that you decided who I am to vote for with preselected boxes, and in some case all other options removed.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind, after all I can't do a thing for myself and I would never have my own opinion.

After seeing that i nearly didn't vote, I don't apricate other people telling me who I should vote for.

    Have you read the website.

Devore did you have to pay to enter? Btw the winner isn't based on the votes. Although I'd like to see them give the prize away to someone with sod all votes. smile.gif

Hey Muppet boy. why not just go to the main website and vote? All he did was remove the other entrants in thier areas so you don't accidently misvote.

Done, we rock, pointy thing goes to us! Yay. (Actually, they break really easy, g/f got one last year and the top cracked off after it fell off the table, boards.ie don't really want one, having said that, the dinner was nice smile.gif)

Ah jeez, I just went to the site (root homepage) - first bloody thing I see is a warning and a stupid slow dling flash! Remember, your stop button does not stop a flash download...

Now I'm not a "flash is evil" person but how can these people assume to judge internet awards?

    Grr,

Done... God, their website is brutal. I especially like the clever trick of having the links at the top totally unreadable even on very high contrast screens.

    Some points to answer...

    Draco Says:
Er, why is Boards.ie just refered to as "Board"?

Well, initially it said even less. It just put up a link. No description at all. After we complained and they put us up as "Board".
Ho hum, we're still going to win.

Bubbles Rants stuff about constricting his "vision"... smile.gif

Ok, yes we limited the options. We actually thought people here would see the funny side of us exploiting their lack of referrer-URL checking.

Do you REALLY honestly think we sat here and thought "You know, if we dont give them options they'll HAVE to vote for boards.ie"

Yes... yes... actually we did... then Regi and Vex and I laughed "Muuuahhahaha the fools they have played directly into our hands, soon this world will be ours Muuuahhahahahah *cough* hahaha"

We also were banking on you all overlooking the cunning decoy url directly to the awards site I placed in original post.

And bubbles, three shakes is enough sweetums tongue.gif

The fact is that this whole thing is dodgy and smells. I want to make a show of them by using the power of community to FORCE them to acknowledge this site. I want it to be soooo undenyable that they will loose all credibility should we not be awarded the prize. If we get an awards statue we'll probably raffle it amongst us.

Personally I just want to see an award go a site that is actually doing something with the general users of the internet rather then some knob-jockey marketing types bumchum mate who knocked up some corporate-ware. Ahem... I've said too much smile.gif

FYI Boards.ie has broken the quarter million impressions a month barrier and is ranked 28th in Irish traffic.

    DeV.

Um, in what way is it not working?

Afaik, we get absolutely nothing. Maybe a statue or something. We certainly dont get bags of cash or anything (God I wish we did smile.gif )

You know the more I read this site, the more it's going to show how corrupt Ireland is.

I don't know if everyone knows the peoples in the list but some of the judges are or were very close to people who are entered.... Actually one of the Judges has thier own site entered!. Some of the people entered are also doing the advertising on the pages (eg. Today FM).
    What makes a winner
These will be the winners of the National Internet Business Awards 2000 - nominees that innovate, inspire, achieve their objectives, add value to an organisation and are genuinely pioneering.

    Judging Criteria
The specific judging criteria for all site award categories are:
    - Effectiveness in meeting objectives
    - Innovation and excellence in design
    - Value of content
    - Ease of navigation
    - Innovative use of technologies

Additional judging criteria with specific relevance to a particular category may be used. Click on the individual award categories to check these out.

There is also more categories then you can vote on? Someone explain that.

oh yea Trojan, always -5 hours.

The whole internetawards.ie thing is a farce just like most other Irish web awards events. I originally posted a message on the IIA Webmaster list about how suspect the whole thing was, especially questioning the impartiality of the selection - all of the selection seemed to be past or current Web Ireland advertisers. Yahoo.co.uk, the winner in last year's awards wasn't even operating in Ireland at the time it won and only opened an advertising office after the event as far as I remember. HackWatch made it to the top four and though the "winners" were promised £9K of consultancy from a leading Irish web firm, nobody seemed to have got anything and HackWatch was not even contacted.

The post on WST upset those delicate technology journalists in Web Ireland. I got a phonecall from the editor of WI next day and he was very upset having read the message I posted on "the bulletin board" [sic]. My first question was whether the selection were past or current advertisers. Second was about who selected the candidates. It turned out that it was himself, Andrew McLindon, and his deputy copywriter. I was then told that I was seeing conspiracies everywhere. Basically that is what is known as a non-denial denial. Web Ireland had been caught stuffing their e-lection thing with their friends and non-lethal choices (Apart from John Sterne who is a very good journo). What really irritated me was that the main choices in the journo section were people who's primary output is bland cliche riddled press release rewrites. Web Ireland is a magazine that is increasingly irrelevant. It is merely advertising punctuated by exerises in sequential spelling.

And the webcast of last year's event - I was lucky to have a pot of Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee and some paracetemol to hand. The production was so poor that it was like some really naff seventies porno film but without the funny dialogue.

I guess the ultimate irony is that Web Ireland does not actually have a real website - other than a bit of content free brochureware.

    Regards...jmcc

Ah come on now, it's not exactly a big deal even if they did bother checking HTTP-REFERER, should take all of 30 seconds to sort out that little hurdle.

Oh, and as soon as internetawards.ie are up I'ill vote.
