    Gombin,

Sorry to ask, but how'd you find out that information?.

Also, do you have any idea of the dates these exchanges will go live?

I'd love to know when my exchange will go live, as i get mixed responses from Eircom

    Cheers

All the above exchanges have now been upgraded. However, they have not been launched, which they are not ready for order-taking. This should chnage in the next few weeks.

    Elexes,

If you bothered reading any of my previous posts you would realise that I don't work for eircom, but the info supplied is 100% cast iron. All the above exchanges are DEFINITELY enabled. As to whether let you have the service or not is a different matter.

    Regards.

Are all these yet to be enabled? Wasn't Tullamore on one a while back published by Eircom?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭gombín

    Skeptic,

I think it was published on that supplement in the papers a few weeks ago (the one that claimed everywhere, including Rockall, had DSL capability). They since had to acknowledge that many of these exchanges weren't upgraded at all.

    Regards.

    Hey Joe90

I'm in Glanmire, so I rang this morning to order, and they told me that the exchange is not launched yet. They said I should ring back next week.

Did you actually manage to get your order in ??

    XDA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭joe90

    Hi xda

Funny story. When i first rang eircom the said it was up and running so i said i would ring back. Rang back yesterday eircom said again it was up and running so i said i will order it , the ladie went to get the forms came back and told me that she had made
mistake and the exchange wasnt ready. I ask when, she didnt no. So i rang esat and they tested my line and told me everything was fine and are sending out the contract today. I dont know whats happening.Try ringing esat bt.

    cheers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 946 ✭✭✭XDA

    Hi Joe

Yeah, you're right, rang esat and they said it is available, and i passed and they're sending me out the forms. Just for the crack, I'm going to try netsource and utv as well to see what they say.

    Regards

    XDA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 946 ✭✭✭XDA

Netsource say it won't be available to me until Jan'04

I rang Eircom, told Clonakilty was commissioned, but there pre-qual system was down for 2 days last week so could not take my order. Rang back on Monday and told exchange not enabled!
Rang back later same day and told was enabled but 'all ports had been taken'. Couldn't tell me when and if more ports were available. Can they at least make their mind up ?

Rang ESAT, they tested my line and said all ok. Sending order in post. I hope they can deliver, I'm sick of waiting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭joe90

    Hi Coolermaster

It seems strange how one company say one thing and another some thing else. You cant get a reliable answer.Hope fully esat won t let me down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭gombín

    Lads,

I'm afraid Esat WILL let you down. The exchange hasn't been launched yet, so if they told you yesterday it was available, plain & simple, they were lying. As soon as it's launched, I'll let you know.

    Regards.

    Barra,

No plans at present, I'm told. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭joe90

What is going on.why do they say one thing and it means something else.

    Cheers fo the info Gombin

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 griffzino

    Coolermaster,

I rang Eircom on numerous occasions as well, and the latest response was that all ports are filled.

I'd say it just hasn't been launched yet, but the exchange 'is' upgraded.

I'd say in a couple of weeks, Netsource & I-Stream will be available.

Is the exchange in Clon located up McCurtain Hill?

    Regs

    Griff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭gombín

    Joe,

Me is guessing here, but I doubt I'm that far from the truth. When you ring eircom, the pleb on the phone will tell you that there are no ports in Glanmire, and not knowing that that exchange is not launched yet, will tell you that they are "out of" ports or whatever their excuse was. The reality is that there haven't been any ports activated in the exchange at all.

Well, Netsource & IOL are just as useless. Reminds me kind the ad on the telly at the moment. They'd sell their mam for a sausage. This guys are fully aware that it's not launched are putting you on the back-burner to boost their sales stats as soon as it comes on line-oldest trick in the book! I'd tell ye, either of them would be perfectly at home selling sand to an Arab.

    Regards.

Gombin have u heard anything on when the Allen or Robertstown exchanges will be ready for BB? (both in Kildare). I dont know if u know or not but u seem to know about the roll out plans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭gombín

Apart from Kildare Town & Droichead Nua, the only other one of heard about in that neck of the woods is Kilcullen, due for upgrade some time next year.

    regards.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 833 ✭✭✭Stormfox1020

Ah crap im hopeless to get broadband, I was told id have Broadband in September by Eircom now next year, Its funny how the UK is so established with their Broadband and were right next to them and have **** all. The worse part is that i moved away from having a 1MB connection to not getting broadband at all, if only the parents were into this ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,022 ✭✭✭sReq | uTeK

Storm man I feel for you must be very ****ing annoying for you when downgrading from a 1meg.

Hehe cant wait till my installation is sorted and I upgrade frm a 56k to a 512k :) then again I do feel for you storm.

I know esat and eircom and all the rest are only trying to keep you coming back to them they reckon if they keep telling you its ****ing all full etc etc youll keep waiting till it aint and will eventually sign up for them.

I have to say im a lucky one I am in an enabled exchange area.I am going with esat bt business and I have to say the sales reps working their have been extremly ****ing helpful/

Id have one bad thing to say about esat the time it takes them to connect you.if they could do it in the same time that netsource do it then it would be sweet.till then I guess ill just have to sit and twiddle my thumbs :(

**** eircom tbh fcuk the rat forever

To answer your question, the exhange in Clon is not up McCurtain hill, it is the dirty looking building next to the community college.

God ! I thought they were done months ago. I hope the government hasn;t given them the £IR10m and let them do a runner with it :( They won't do any more and they won't resell the eircom business grade producst either ...like Netsource.

Gombin! Do Eircom install business ADSL and RADSL on all exchanges or are some RADSL only ?

Any idea when Athenry excahnge will get upgraded?

If this isn't an option, I'll have to go with satellite, but I hear that it's unusable over a VPN? If so I need to go with ISDN....

    M.

They should do both packages in all exchanges. But then again, that's dependent on you passing their prequal and being told your copper won't support 1Mb.

Thanks Gombin, I had heard mutters that some were RADSL only.

Athenry is this month as has been said recently !

surely this is the final insult... Cobh and Clonakilty of all places get upgraded and Carrigaline, one of the most densly populated suburbs in Cork gets passed over again. It makes me want to vomit in disgust & terror.

Why oh why does God hate me? I just want broadband...

The final insult would be that Castletownbere will be done before Carrigaline. :)

Deep breaths Rymus. Carrigaline is due to be done before the end of the year.

    OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *head explodes*

Rang to give out stink to eircom drone and she tried to calm me by saying "ohh Carrigaline is actually being worked on". What she left until the end of the conversation was "it wont be done until next spring".

I think I'll buy a nuclear warhead off ebay and go drop it on Castletownbere, therefore bumping carrigaline up to second last on the list of exchanges to be enabled for DSL on the entire planet. Perhaps then Carrigaline stands some chance of being upgraded before Sherkin Island.

Well, to add the post near the start about Glanmire, originally, my line was passing the test about 3 - 4 weeks ago, and I placed an order with Esat for IOLBB.

Mysteriously now however, the line test is now showing that "Broadband is not currently available on your exchange" and the Esat guys have contacted me to tell me that they can't deliver. Why am I not surprised ??

Anyway, gombín, you seem to have the inside track, any idea whats going on in Glanmire ? Are they going to launch it soon ?

    Regards

    XDA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭gombín

    XDA,

Esat would sell sand to the Arabs. The amount of stories I've heard of them taking orders for exchanges that won't be done for months or at all for that matter.

Checked Glanmire this morning, and from what I hear the backhaul is being fixed into the exchange, so it should be anytime soon. Anyhows, I'll keep ye posted.

    Regards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 946 ✭✭✭XDA

Thanks for the update gombín, you seem to have a golden source there, thanks for sharing it with us.

If you hear anything positive about Glanmire maybe you'd post it for us, I know that there are a few more from Glanmire watching this post with bated breath.

    Regards

    XDA
