IRC Chat - #icdg

I've set up a chat room for ICDG people to discuss broadcasting.

If you want to use mIRC (a standalone IRC client available from www.mirc.com), you need to connect to QuakeNet (you can issue the commands /connect ign.ie.quakenet.org and then /join #icdg).

Alternatively, you should be able to use the web-based Java client we have on boards.ie:

    http://www.boards.ie/chat/index.php?room=icdg

    All the best,

    John.

Cheers Cloud, I'll make this a sticky across all ICDG boards, and venture that way later today. :)

    Great stuff! :D

Could be a great wee chat community if some of the ICDG regulars use it! ;)

Probably be bit more busy if/when a few more ICDG'ers give it a go! ;)

    Hi,

    Can't connect to the service.

    I see the following
    Connecting
    Unable to connect: ign.ie.quakenet.org
*** Ident server running on port 113

    Any ideas?

Exact same error as I'm getting, I think it's a browser problem.
I'll D/L a newer version later and see what happens... meantime, don't anybody be getting lonely in there...

Or possibly something to do with my broadband connection or a firewall or something, into a realm I know little about :(

I may aswell D/L MIRC and see if that helps

Féck it I'll do that now, work can wait a bit:D

MIRC is so much better than the browser version IMO. see you all at the quiz

mIRC didn't work due to firewall.

    Will try at home later.

    What quiz?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

In mIRC, I had to set the firwall option to DCC, rather than server, got connected then.

Hey, the one day I didnt get a chance to go in, all the activity!

Has anyone figured out how to stop that quiz ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

why would you want to stop it. first to 15 wins. you could always leave #markquiz if you are fed up with it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

oh, i see what quiz you are on about now. why is it in #icdg?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Ah the quizes! :)

Great laugh! The first one I remember was the #DustyQuiz, followed by the very popular #BardQuiz! Then there was DEMquiz, MarkQuiz, and heck even ByteQuiz (sadly I've little patience when it comes to researching quiz questions) ! ;)

Maybe if there were enough people online in #icdg, I or someone could run a media-based quiz!

I have attempted to use this both at work and at home but it never works.

Also at home i DL the mirc but i still could not get it working.

Is it worth messing about with or does any one use it at all?

Me, Cloud, celticfc, man, chuffy, echomadman, gerire and byte are currently in there.

    Strangely no Mossy.

    It should work!

Hmm, when ya open mIRC, go to File >> Options. On the "Connect" option, you'll see drop down menus for "IRC Network" and in the top one choose Quakenet from the list. And in the bottom one choose Random Server (it'll do to get you started). Insert a Nick and Alternative Nick in appropriate boxes. and click on "Connect to Server"

    When started, type the following:

    /join #icdg

That should help. There may be some variances if its the first time IRC has started, like inputting your name and email address.

If all this fails, then maybe your PC is preventing IRC to work by blocking ports that IRC needs.

Let me know how ya get on. It would be good to get another ICDG regular (at the moment it's usually Man, Mossy Monk, me, DMC and celticfc);)

I had another go last night.

I was able to connect and see that someone won the 3rd DMC quiz with 6 points. But the main body of the screen was a gray box not place to enter text.

    any one have any ideas?

I am at work now so it wont be able to check it here.

    Thanks
    Eóin

    This is in work.

But at home the center box is gray with no info.

Errr, you click your mouse/curser on the line under couldn't look up your hostname type and press return and up the text appears for all to see :)

I think you have to be logged in?? to the boards site under your nick and have cookies on etc??

We had noticed you logging in twice last night or the night before eoinm1. I think your nick was eoinm10 or eoinm40, something like that. We said hello though got no responses, and ya logged off and returned some time later as Guest.

    Hope you get sorted ;)

I had another go while i was loged into the forums but it still would not work.

"Errr, you click your mouse/curser on the line under couldn't look up your hostname type and press return and up the text appears for all to see"

I dont get to see that part at home as it is grayed out.
The screen shot is from work.

    Thanks,
    Eóin

Cheers Eoin, I was wracking my brains trying to remember that site here in college this morning.

It still isn't working right for me ATM (it wont connect properly), but I'll keep trying.

Eoin, what Quakenet server did you use?

I've tried, ign.ie.quakenet.org & all the others that i could find but none of them work.

I can only manage to connect to the ones given on the caffeine-powered site:

    [IRCCity] irc.irccity.nl
    [IRCnet] irc.sci.kun.nl
    [IRCnet] irc.xs4all.nl
    [EFnet] efnet.vuurwerk.nl
    [Undernet] haarlem.nl.eu.undernet.org

I found a Quakenet host that worked!

    irc.quakenet.eu.org

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,884 Mod ✭✭✭✭celticfc

Don't worry bout that Eoin coz it's workin perfectly here @ home.

It must be something to do with the colleges firewall.

I think there's something on the QuakeNet site about making your IP a trusted host - www.quakenet.org

With a thousand thanks to Moriarty and Bard, we now have "loive" stats of our IRC sessions on #icdg......

Is eoinm1 stupid or just asking too many questions? 17.0% lines contained a question!
byteh didn't know that much either. 16.7% of his lines were questions.

Dam you all to hell :)

    Question ?

    That is all
