Cardio and resistance

I train alot for running, obviously enough by running, at least an hour a day. I cycle hard to and from work, also an hour a day(although that will soon be going up to two hours a day, new job further away). All this cardio exercise leaves me drained and tired, as it such, which means that I have little or no time, energy and inclination to go to the gym 4 days a week and do resistance training.

A while back I injured my quad, hip and groin. This put me out of running and cycling for a few months, so I said f*&k it and used to go to the gym for about 2 hours four/five days a week. Things were going great - abs more defined, biceps increased in size, chest look decent enough etc etc etc. But then my injury healed and I went back running and cycling. I tried for a while to do cardio and resistance but I just couldn't do two sessions in a day(cause it really was 4 - 1 x running, 2 x cycling, 1 x resistance). Of course the gains I made in the gym disappeared and the muscle went bye bye. I want it back!

What can I do to either (1) get the energy and time to do gym work? (not going to happen theres only 24 hours in a day) or (2) build up muslce in chest, biceps, triceps and abs at home, half an hour here, 15 minutes there etc etc? Any and all ideas welcome.

I'm just a beginner, but that seems like way too much training IMO. Your body wont be able to take that kind of strain consistently.

What seems like too much training? 2 hours cardio a day is not too much if built up to slowly and you listen to your body. Actually anything less than 2 hours makes me jumpy and hyper - just cause I'm used to it. Anyways there are plenty of ways to ensure that overtraining doesn't occur - resting heart rate and delta resting heart rate in the mornings is the one I go by.

Or are you trying to say that 2 hours cardio plus resistance training everyday is too much? If so, then yes at this moment in time I'm inclined to agree with you, thats why I'm asking for advice here :) Is it possible? Would the odd home exercise do? After all, all I'm looking for is a little increase in muscle mass on my upper body. There has to be some way of combining the two?
