i would say Viduka would be among the top goals scores if he dosnt leve england

but im realy interested to see how figueroa will do for birimingham he must be quality getting into the argentine international team

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭sci0x

    I would say Ruud

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 197 ✭✭hoolio

It'll be interesting to see how the Tottenham boys do aswell, especially Keane.I mean if you take penalties Ruud only scored about 4 (i think) more goals then Keane and look at the supply he's getting from Giggs etc. I'm not so sure about Postiga, might flop or might get 20 goals.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭AngelofFire

Id say Ruud van nistelrooy will do it again. But watch out for Villas Marcus Allback id say he could easily manage 15-20 goals if his late last season form continues

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

i think Henry will do it this season

"Uhh uhh Wayne Rooney, uh, come on England, uh, **** yeah!"

Yeah right.... My prediction is that Ruud will have a decent season as per usual, Viduka wont be in the top 3, and Beatie wont make an impact as much as this (well, last) season. Henry of course will score a few (as per usual), but 3rd place makes me wonder...

    1. Henry
    2. Ruud Bwoy
    3. Owen? nah, Beatie? nah, Shearer? probably, Bellamy? sure why not... - I think we just need to wait and see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

It would be cool if we could have all the strikers listed having injury free seasons to get a decent comparison (Owen would have a shout then).

My money is on whoever Chelseas' main striker is going to be for the year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 170 ✭✭Eron

**** actualy, I forgot - Chelsea, but with Duff etc. they will have more of an evened out scoring ratio I think (alot coming from midfield)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

i would say Viduka would be among the top goals scores if he dosnt leve england

really cant see this happening myself , he's fat and lazy, Leeds will be heading for the bottom half if not relegation zone , his performances will get worse.

he's jsut one of those frustrating players that has the ability but not always teh will.

i'd say gudjohnson @ chelski has a shot at the golden boot with service from duff / geremi and gronkaer

otherwise old horse face van nistleroy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 170 ✭✭Eron

Viduka isnt fat and lazy, he is stocky and powerful... and VERY strong. I see him as a ****ter version of Christian Vieri to be honest, cept less of a goal ratio (cus he plays for a **** team like leeds, quote me)

Course he is  his 50 yard run against fulham beating five defenders was the best tap in i've ever seen.

ok he's stocky, powerful and lazy :-)

Don't forget about his tap in against Arsenal, when he turned Campbell on the halfway line!! :D

    My top three are:

    1) Henry
    2) Van Nistleroy
    3) Shearer [can't believe that fcuker is still scoring :D]

    v man all the way...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 Baddiel

Its probably going to be van nistelrooy or Henry, but theres an outside chance it could be Eidur Gudjohnsen as he will get great balls delivered into him by Geremi and Duff. He looks a pretty good bet at 25/1.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭marct

I'll plumb for ickle Mickie Owen. He did well last season and I'm banking on better service with Kewell et al

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

    1. Michael Owen (38 league goals)
    2. Milan Baros (32 league goals)
    3. Harry Kewell (28 league goals)

    4. Ruud (25)
    5. Thierry (24)

    ;)

I think your living in a bit of a fantasy world mate. I very much doubt that the whole liverpool side will score more than 60 goals this season.

Here are the odds from Paddy Power:

    Ruud Van Nistelrooy 5 - 2

    Thierry Henry 10 - 3

    Darius Vassell 80 - 1

    Kenny Miller 80 - 1

    B Ormerod 100 - 1

    N Blake 100 - 1

    Clinton Morrison 100 - 1

    Shaun Bartlett 200 - 1

    Dion Dublin 250 - 1

    Youri Djorkaeff 500 - 1

The ones that pop out for me are Damien Duff (100-1), Christophe Dugarry (200-1), Teddy Sheringham (150-1), Alan Smith (150-1), Dwight Yorke (125-1).

Although those five players haven't got much of a chance I am going to put €2 on each which makes a total of €10 and I could win between €200-€400.

I'd say that Bobby Zamora at 40-1 is a decaint bet, along with Alan Smith and Svetoslav Todorov (Seriously).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

;) yes perhaps I was being just a tad over-optimistic, but Baddiel, I guarantee ye that the Liverpool team will easily score 60 goals in the league this season. If they don't I will eat your shorts.

I do think Mickey Owen will be top scorer this season though, he's gonna be on fire from day 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

so nistelrooy scores 1 good goal last season and u criticise the tag tap in specilist and by the way nistelrooy beating campbell on the half way line (30 yards out but and near the touchline) wasnt anywhere as near as special as shearer's volley against everton Henry's solo run against spurs(better than ruud's against fulham) and Bellamy's swerving shot against southampton

(yes i am newcastle fan so dont say anything about mentioning 2 of there goals)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

I agree with Big Ears. Those bookies are twits. They Just Love giving their money away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭AthAnRi

I think Jimmy Floyd might not be a bad outside bet. He had a poor season last year and he might not have much fuel left in the tank but I think he could grab 20+ next year. Provided he isn't sold that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

hasselbaink and gudjohnsson are a good team but i cant see either of them getting quite 20 goals. maybe around 16 each.

well that aint much of a bet now.. is it... seeing that they scored 61 last season... with the few signings that they have made, they should at least equal that, if not better it.... hopefully not though, as id love to see the redscum crash and burn.... in fairness last season, watching liverpool was like watching paint dry... boring...

it has to be another golden boot for ruud...

It's terrible that young Wayne is injured for the start of the season. I sincerely hope he doesn't have to retire prematurely with blubberitis. :)

    vieri ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭AthAnRi

Yes that is true Big Ears but before last season Jimmy Floyd consistently scored 20 a season. (Except for the year he was away obviously) and now that he may get a decent supply of the ball I fancy him to hit 20+. Just a suggestion

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

Van Nistelrooys goal was a better goal than Henrys. Shearer is lethal with shots but hes old and cant run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Villa's Angel not even listed in the odds!!!

Emm wonder if I could get him at 200-1 or so.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

Im gonna bet on Bellamy as well...that lad is class.

Henry's was better then Nistelrooy"s so dont make me start a poll .Shearer may be old but i doubt Van the woman will score as many goals when hes 31 almost 32

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 170 ✭✭Eron

Whup, didi, ****ing doo..... Nistelroy scored 1 fantastic goal, how many has Terry Henry scored at this stage? alot more...

I think that Diego Forlan at 80-1 is, well a joke, I think that Duff will defenitely score more than him... and Francis Jeffers is 50-1? who are they kidding....

Bookies need to start watching these guys play before they set these crazy odds...

Yes and we remember all those goals from outside the box Nistelrooy gets. The so called complete striker i think not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

inside, outside the box, they all count. at the end of the day the guy with the most goals is the best striker.

he can be slow, awkward, clumsy and a goal hanger but if he gets the goals thats all that matters. v.nistlerooy i believe is the best striker, doesnt have the disipline problems of henry or arrogance. having said that henry aint bad either!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

Van Nistelrooy aint clumsy and he certainly is not slow. Ronaldo is the best striker in the world in my opinion, then Raul, then Van Nistelrooy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

no, dont get me wrong, van is quick and has good feet. just strikers in general dont have to be skillfull and pacey to score goals.

i think raul is over-rated. ronaldo is pure class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 83 ✭✭bort

u have to remember that RVN plays up front on his own, and i dont think any other striker, cept for Ronaldo and Raul that could do that as effectively as him.

    i think raul is over-rated

    huh?!?

    explain how?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

Raul is a genius on the ball. Hes like a Zidane up front. Doesnt rely on pace but shimmy's, dribbling and creativity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

he has no presence, power and lacks skill. he cant go past people when he's stopped, he needs to be running to get past.

also the spanish league's defence's are an absolute shambles. when was the last time you ever heard of a 0-0 draw in spain?. not too many of them.

getting pin point accurate crosses and through balls from zidane, figo, ronaldo also makes it easy to score. he scores goals and as i said that makes him a great striker. i just think people over-rate him.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

Raul was scoring 40+ goals a season long before Zidane or Figo played for Real...

The man is almost the complete striker, he is strong, good in the air, can get by players, he can poach goals, he can fire them in form 30 yard.

I can't believe you are saying that Raul is over rated, RVN is by far the most over rated striker in the world at the moment.

Actually I take that back, ronaldo is the most over rated striker in the world, anyone who can't hack it in italy can't seriously be considered a world beater, even Del Bosqe said he was "an over rated, selfish little island".

Morientez has a far better scoring record for Real, only reason Ronaldo playes is because he sells shirts, same as beckham, it's that simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

ronaldo is miles above raul! if anyone is the finished striker its RONALDO. he can do absoulutely anything. raul is predictable. ronaldo isnt.

he couldnt hack it in italy because he was out for nearly a year. he found it hard to get back to fitness. when 100% fit ronaldo beats raul hands down. the spanish defences are equilivent to the english 1st division. put raul in the 1st division and of course he get 40+ a season.

raul is not in the same bracket as zidane, figo and ronaldo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 743 ✭✭✭UbahOne

Seaneh, what are you like? Ronaldo is not over rated. Hes a genius. Hes a much better player than Schevchenko(sp?). RVN is not over rated. Hes a genius as well. He makes chances out of nothing.
