Right, so I was walking down a road with d'girlfriend in d'pissin rain, and we walk into an alley. We hear a load of lads shoutin, so we both make ourselves scarce and do a runner. They start shoutin across at us, usual ****e "does your mammy's know your out so late?" ect... so we walk on,and then one of them grabs my shoulder, and says "here, can I use your phone for a second? Just need to switch over the sims" , I didnt say anything for a minute, thinking to myself, was a bit scared.. so he said "go on,I wont be a second" , So finally,I give it to him, there was no ****ing way I'd say no, he was about 19 and well built. So I gave him the phone, and he put it in his pocket, started taking the back off his phone and then said "nah, its too much hassle, here, thanks anyway, sound" , so he went to reach into his pocket, then he went and punched me in the face. So everything went dark and a few more hits were thrown, my girlfriend screaming for them to stop. So they stopped anyway, and she helped me up,and we ran to my friends house, told them what happened, and their father gave me a lift to my fathers house. Eventually, we found one of them, thanks to my friends father, who saw a group of lads in supermacs looking a bit suspicious.. he then rang my phone, one of the lads picked up,and he said "what are you doing with that phone", so they all ran off, and they told us where they went, and we caught up with one of them...cops then arrested him

ring this number as if you were being paid for it, and do whatever you can to piss off whoever picks up; 0861656039

can be when it happens to you, christ you want revenge eh?
    I know I did.

But then you gotta think that this glimpse of anger that we
get when sumfink like this happens is the kind of emotional
normality that these kids are livin with every day and that anger
turns to bitterness agianst the rest of the world- us-.

    Tellox!
Ring O2 and get them to bar ur number and ask them to block ur phone,U'd be amazed at the amount that can be done by Big Brother in Dublin. Also if its a nokia phone see can u dig up the IMEI number(13 digit no.on back of phone also found on box + receipt)then contact clubnokia and report the phone stolen,so if Mr. Scumbag tries to get the phone repaired at any stage in a nokia repair centre, alarm bells will go off in the system and he will be reported to the cops(sweeet!)

Ya might get a bit of piece of mind from this!
(Also man any time u own a phone always set the security code
and pin code so if it is stolen the dirty bollox won't get much use out of it!)

Still does'nt compare to the satisfaction of taking a hurl to the scumbags head!Ahh well wishful thinking!!:D

So, he had your phone, and still beat the **** out of you. Theres a lesson there, often people think that if they just do what these people want they wont get hurt. they forget thats theres aload of violent scum on the street these days, kick the **** out of your for looking the wrong way. If its any help, you probably go away as well as you could have, i mean you very easyly could have been stabbed to death, like that guy in UCI.

Violence doesn't solve anything. What happened after they got arrested anyway. Maybe after this expierence you might start self defense classes. Anyway I hope your ok mate, these things should not happen first of all but next time try and ignore him even if he does grab your arm.
Just to let you know he has allready assaulted you there which gives you the right to defend yourself. this does not mean you can kick the living daylights out of him but as he quite bit older then you can give him a good square punch just so you can get away.

Anyway its too late for that now but if it happens again you know what to do.

    Cheers,

what if hes with his friends, he punches one, and the others go after him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Tellox

for the record,he was with 4 or 5 other lads, and they were all fairly well built up... are you telling me you'd say no to a bunch of lads that are 4-5years older then you,let alone much bigger?

Whats amazing is how fast it all happened...I always thought that it was tripe acting in the movies when these things happened; "ahhh it all happened so fast" ect ect... but how fast it did happen was really something else..

I've been thought in kickboxing on how to advoid all these ****ers, how to outsmart em, dodge em, break their legs, break their arms, break their neck, killing more then one at a time ect... and tbh if I had thought a bit faster before he punched me,I could've snapped his kneecap and done a runner, but of course, as I'd never been in this situation before, I strangely enough thought that he was giving the phone back.

So anyway, I saw his hand going down to his pocket, then everything went black, and all I felt after that was pain, and my gf screaming "jesus christ!!"

so for all you that think your able to stop a fist hitting you...your very very wrong!

I will say this and no more... Take self-defence classes and dont tolerate this b0llox.

Some cheeky c|_|nt tried snatching my 7250 last night, they werent half as smart when I had him on the ground, face down, in an airlock and blocking his wind-pipe.

Violence is not the way to go about it, I frown upon punching someone in the face, I prefer my method tbh, scares the crap out of the person commiting the crime

The fact that he punched him repeatedly in the head when he gave him the phone makes you wonder what he might have done if Tellox didn't give him the phone...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Tellox

    Oh,and the areas to advoid like the plague is;

Kings Channel, Powerscourt, and the general Ardkeen area in Waterford. I'd also reccomend advoiding the nearby farren park.

While I think its a good idea to do some self defense especially for heath, awareness, self confidence and it may even get you out of minor scuffles. Best defense is not get attacked in the first place which means, cross the street to avoid groups, avoiding alleys, ducking into a pub or shop and waiting for groups to pass or calling a taxi etc. Sure thats not always possible but if you get unlucky even if the guy is a lot smaller all it takes is one accurate blow or cut and its game over, you'll be killed or maimed. Is that worth not going the long way about getting somewhere, or paying for a taxi?

That said theres always some who is just looking for hassle and robbing is just an excuse. Nothing you can do to avoid those other then get the heck away from them (theres never just one). In short I'd be glad you only lost the phone and not lying brain damaged in some hospital. Put it down as a learning experience. You'll meet that kinda crap everywhere in the world. Its best to know how to deal with it. You can't always avoid it. You can't always fight your way out of it. You won't be lucky everytime either.

I have been mugged 4 times ,stabbed 3 different times and never given a single penny (1 exception).
There is no way i would hand over anything to some filthy scumbag ,one on occasion i was stabbed in the face just below the eye (got a cool scar from it) because i wouldnt hand over £1.25 i beat the living **** out of the guy and his 2 mates ran off.

Granted they may have jumped on me but still i wouldnt hand over anything ever. (this philosphy may get me killed one day but **** it ,its mine I worked for it :D )

Sad thing is the one time i was mugged in Inichore i was pissed took some cash out of the ATM and turned and some guy grabbed it i grabbed him and started beating him to a pulp then about 6 of his mates ran at me they had to try and catch the Kdjac shaped blurr. Didnt get me £20 back but reckon i got me moneys worth in the beating i gave the guy.

Dont ever hand over anything and if they hit you hit them back, if outnumbered run boy run.

I agree with KdjaC, scumbags are always coming up to me and trying to get either money, smokes or a phone. But most of the time I either keep walking and nothing happens or if they do try something I kick the s**t out of them. In fact just two weeks ago two blokes came over to me and told me to give them my phone. I punched one of them in the face and then I picked up a pole and hit him again. And to my suprise his friend ran off like a little bitch. So this just gave me the chance to beat absolute **** out of the bloke. So I say if you know you can't take them - keep walking but otherwise swing away.

That happened me this time last year aswell. I am a good fighter , but it does happen so quickly, and if they take you by surprise you freeze and then afterwards you're thinking "what if i had of done this". What I learned is that you turn the tables. Don't give them any respect, and YOU throw the first punch if you think it's going there. There's a good chance they'll run away if they think you're able to beat them. Or just kick him in the nuts and run as fast as those legs can carry you..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

I know we are saying this now, and you probably understand this now, but don't give them anything if they ask for it. If you ever take out a phone, you can show them your wallet or valuable watch etc, it is just giving them more reason to rob you. Just keep walking like you didn't hear them, just keep walking until they are grabbing you, if they do. Usually they can't be arsed following you, also tried not to look scared or worried, just look like you can't be bother stopping.

Hmm, I still have a scar just under my eye, from being punched with a soverign because I didn't give the shít a pound. Of coarse that was just an excuse, if they want to hit you, they will, no point in giving them money aswell. Ahh well, he got a can to his face........my only regret that it wasn't a bottle. At least I'll always remember the night of my JC results :)

Also, it does give me a kind of sick satisfaction that in a couple of years I'll be able to buy and sell in worthless pathetic life....MAUHAHAAHHA

    /me rubs hands together gleefully.

P.s stop your lame attempts to flame fisty and act your fúcking age.

From where I'm typing I can actually see the spot where a gang of lads hoped on me and gave me a hiding six or seven years ago. My Kung Fu instructor at the time told me to take it as a free lesson and the lesson was this; sheer aggression can win a fight. The truth is those lads wanted trouble and we didn't (some mates of mine were with me at the time though most didn't get involved) and that made the difference.

I suppose you could have run Tellox but the thing is in a situation like that you're second guessing what your girlfriend's going to do. Would she have run too or would you be halfway down the road before you realised she was on her own with those scumbags? You couldn't possibly know and as far as I'm concerned you acted as best you could given the circumstances.

Also (while I'm sure you're not thinking of it) getting revenge is a nonsense. Those scum only know more scum who'll be willing to repay the favour if you find and beat them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭Kavs

Ya agreed Tellox could'nt have done much more, its a different story if the girlfriend is with ya,scumbags have absolutely no honour so better u take the beatin than ur girl. That said god help the fella that lays a hand on my girlfriend,Self preservation goes out the window!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Having self defense skills like kick boxing is only usefull if you can have the cold bloodedness to use it. Some little scum bag split my head open with a coin once, while standing at a cornr with his mates. Imagine his surprise when this 15 stone beast ran over and lifted him out of it in front of his mates. One of his mates did try to step in, but before he had the chance i decekd him in the stomach, that ment his other mates hesitated while i pulmled the first guy. You have to have the aggresive edge, its like neverpull a knife unless your going to use it, never hit a guy unless you willing to keep hittign untill he goes down. You probably a nice kids and as such don't kick yourself about not having this " fuk him over before he fuks me over" attitude, but i bet next time you will.

Btw Fishy, i'm pretty sick of you.

Sorry to hear bout what happened. Makes me so angry.

Few months ago, i was outside LIDL in blanchardstown (sp?), I had a camera phone at the time, my father phoned me and I answered it, as I was putting it back in my jacket this big MF grabbed it and started to run like the clappers. Luckilly I had wrapped an elastic wrist strap around my wrist, but it nearly pulled me out of my wheelchair.

the very next day, I sold my cameraphone and decided to get a cheap an nasty phone so i wouldnt be a target, now i wish i hadnt made such a rash decision lol now im stuck with a crappy phone and since i lost my job i cant afford a decent one now! LOL ;)

*I* used to weightlift, and im pretty well built looking, and i do know how to disable somone with very little effort, but for me its a last resort, if somone comes at me with a weapon, or tries to hit me somwhere, then they will find themselves in a lot of pain and unable to move, but aside from that i say give them what they want, its NOT worth the risk.

The best tactic for a situation like this is to kick him square in the nuts. Only works if you're a fast bugger, because you never ever want to be caught after that.....*cringe*

I was being cased-p by a junkie in the DART station the other day (he must have thought he was the invisible man - you know the way drunks think they can be 'very' quiet and wake the neighbourhood). I had spoted him a thirty feet and put my bag between my feet at 15 feet. Anyway I continue playing tetris on this cheap gameboy-type yoke and he comes up to me blabbering about the call menu on it (him thinking it was a mobile phone). I showed it to him and said it wasn't a phone at which point he completely freaked out and started threatening me. I went back to my game, but watched his feet, he could only look at the top of my head - it threw him completely and he went off in a fit.

    ^ what if it rings

anyway, i'm seriously thinking of gettin a knife for protection, when im older and bigger like ill learn to fight. surprising number of people have been mugged. the closest i came to was when me and my mates were going for a pizza, after going to the cinema, thees older guys from our school start shoutin stuff at us, but we do the sensible thing and walk on. only this dickhead who was with us but wasnt our friend, shouts at the five of them "come on then" next thing they're runnin towords us and ask who said, that, the dick didn't own up and luckly the older lads, walked on, all i got was a shove and that was it, but it could of been worse. the exact same bastards beat up my friend for no reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Actually, the notion of kicking a guy in the balls is quite misleading and is not the best place to go for. For it to be efffective you've got to generally get it square on, and some guys can actually ignore the pain it causes.

Go for the shin. There's no padding (ie. muscle). Skin covering bone. It hurts every time.

Plus they'll probably bend over somewhat at which point you can either run, * or grab a fistful of their hair and then introduce their pugf*ck face to Mr.Knee

On the issue of carrying weapons. Terrible idea. Will only lead to trouble with either the law, or with the scum that prowl the streets. If you pull a weapon, you've just committed yourself and there's no going back.

    * Disclaimer: I am not providing incitement to violence, and the above is assuming that a person has tried to get out of a confrontation before it gets physical.

The above is also not scripture in how to deal with a situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭conZ

In my opinion, when he asked you for your phone you should have said "Why? Your only going to rob it anyways"

He would then reply "I'm not gonna rob it, just need to switch my SIM".

Then you should hope he feels guilty that you know, and that you are getting a good glimpse of him, so he'd retreat.

It'd be worth a try.. Your still gonna get a kicking anyways. It might also buy you some time, maybe someone would spot it, or you'd think of some supar boards ninja moev.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭Puck

Carrying a knife when you can't defend yourself anyway is just plain stupid. You're essentially upping the stakes of a fight and handing your attacker a weapon. Anyway I'd much rather get a kicking and loose a few quid than go to jail and have to live with the guilt of killing another human being.

Tellox, sorry for what happened you. Hope you don't feel too shook up after it. You did nothing wrong, as for giving him the phone when he asked you were understandably nervous and tbh I might have done the same if I were in your position. In a situation like that, the thought of appeasing the guy by being nice to him so he might change his mind is a lot more appealing than fighting him off. Fights are not a very nice experience, even when you win.
