what surface is best to run on???

    Where the best place to run if your recovering from an ankle injury?
    Road, Concrete, Grass or Beach?

    Ive heard and believe that extended concrete running is bad for your feet,

    ive tried a combination of running to my local park (about 5 mins on concrete pathways, about 15 minutes doing laps and sprints on the grass, and about another 5 - 10 minutes running back.

    I have recently returned to training after an ankle injury. I want to increase my running gradually from my current 30 minutes. After returning home from my run, i am seriously wiped out, i play soccer and havent been able to train since february. But i dont want to re-injure my recovering ankle from running on the wrong surface.

    any advice is appreciated.

    i think grass is pretty ok,you might need hard soles as it can stretch you achilles though,sand i dunno about ,concrete is hard on the legs.if you're on the road keep to a level surface as i've run into problems with running on the sloped edges,that's my experience anyway,

    If you can help it, its best to run on a soft surface ie. grass.

    If like me concrete/tarmac is your only option, then its not recommended but it can be done without risk of injury. The key is to select the correct footware.

    You can get runners with extra suspension if you tell your local running gear specialist that you will be running on hard surfaces. In any event, it is important that you select runners that suit you..this is not necessarily the most expensive pair in the shop.

    There was a post on this recently in this section..you might want to check back. One of the members suggested ..i think it was Sportsworld in terenure - owned by former boxer, mick dowling.
    Otherwise, if you are likely to be going abroad anytime soon, check the net for a running gear specialist..can be found easier abroad.
