    What about Upwardly Mobile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭Tzetze

Friends would rank pretty highly on my list of the worst.
Even one burst of canned laughter is too much in my opinion. Please, I do not need to be told when to laugh. If it's funny, we'll laugh, and invariably, it's not.

With "friends" like those, who needs enemas?

Jesus, here's a good list oppotunity!

    Mind Your Language
    Leave it to Mrs O'Brien
    Upwardly Mobile
    The Lads
    Duty Free
    Brighton Belles
In fact anything except Shelley on ITV before 10pm since 1956.
Hardware (oops that was on after 10!)
Tylak and Rooney (?) TV3 abomination

I'll think of some more later....

    Mike.

Yes, everything. Men Behaving Badly had two series on ITV before moving to BBC 1. The first series had Harry Enfield instead of Neil Morrissey (different characters). I'd allow Rising Damp and early episodes of Please Sir to pass thru ITV's anal attempts at sitcom.

    Back to the bad list.

Man about the House (save for Sally Thomsett's name across her arse in the titles and the doe-eyed Paula Wilcox. Puurrrr!)
    Robin's Nest
    George and Mildred
Me and My Girl (all with Richard O'Sullivan! Eek!)
The Two of Us (Nicholas Lyndhurst in bad comedy shocker)
Married for Life (Russ Abbot's rendition of Al Bundy, nuff said)
    The Gaffer
The Upper Hand (cast-off of She's the Boss, appalling US comedy with Tony Danza)

I like the way, Mike, Mind your Language topped that list. :D:D

Time Gentlemen Please that show was just the same stupid jokes over & over for the duration of the two series till Sky canceled it, the sad thing is that Al Murray is quite funny as the land lord in stand up.

Its a long while back - but the ropers was a truely awful, I dont remember laughing once..................ever.

It was a spin off of three's company (sky one)

I'd have to go with Upwardly Mobile and the Cassidy's.

Has there ever been a decent Irish sitcom (and I don't mean Fair City cause that's not meant to be funny! :D )

I think "Friends" is pretty awful, as is "Will and Grace". RTE have produced some tripe sitcoms, even by their standards. Upwardly Mobile was worse than having your head locked into a cage full of rats. Now that somebodies mentioned Nicholas Lyndhurst, there was "Goodnight Sweetheart", an unentertaining time travel romp in which he managed to lead two mediocre lives...at once, which was the hook. Allegedly.

I remember watching some awful list programme before where all the usual talking heads were pretending to remember a series called "Heil Honey, I'm Home" which was about Hitler living next door to a Jewish family in suburbia. It was only ever shown once or twice on some obscure satellite station. Needless to say, it lead ballooned.

    Dharma and Greg. Painfully unfunny.

Generally if I think something is bad I try not to watch it. Therefore I wouldn't have enough knowledge to say which one the worst is.

Having said that, I have to agree with BuffyBot on the Cosby Show - it used to be ok but I remember watching it towards the end and thinking what a pointless program.

    WHAT ABOUT ****|NG JOAN

MY GOD!! how i hate that show,,,,,,,,, i feel like everytime she opens her mouth a baby dies.

that and will and grace, its the same frickin gay joke every week, we know being gay, stereopypically makes u more femine than most men, but dont goin on about it ffs!!!

I forgot that Rising Damp was ITV its good, thanks to the cast esp Rossiter and the lead woman whos name I cant recall at the moment!

Funny how post 10 pm ITV shows were usually much better
Brass, Hot Metal, The New Statesman, 2TV.

I'd say Dharma and Greg just edges Will & Grace for the title. Surely Frasier must rank a close third.

    "Fraiser, the dog is sick"
"Well Myles, bring him to a veterinarian then" - Cue canned laughter

What was that 80's comedy with tony danza, were he works for a rich divorcee who has a son? That must surely feature in the running for worst sitcom ever

    I liked Dahrma and Greg:confused:
And I think Up Mob rank well as far as family sit coms go (I.e the family! shudder!)
Ed byrne was the best thing about the cassidies, as was old new or is new old farrah from fair city.
    Mmmmm how sad am i?

    I love the Eurovision:D
Joke I only like the eurovision

God I think I write my own sit com, with some zany waky Eurovision presenters the title music could be My Lovely Horse.

Don't know how I got on to the eurovision. anyway worst Sit coms ever

Anything that TV3 have bought. (They only got one series for a reason TV3)
    ITV Comedy
RTE Sit Com (Apres Match, Batch Walk and The Den are all very funny)

But my very worst goes to the brit version of That 70's show on ITV.

I spent last summer in New York. I had never watched Fraiser until I saw it in the states, and relative to US television, it was hilarious. I watched it whenever I could. Since I have been back in Ireland I have watched it a few times, and it really is tripe.

The worst sitcoms have to include:
The one on late at night about 'cry baby' the wrestler.
    Time Gentlemen Please.
    Seinfelt.
    Dharma And Greg.
    Will and Grace.
    The Drew Carey Show.
    The Tick.

As for american sitcoms that I like:
    That Seventies Show.
The first few series of Friends. (Could you be any more past your sell by date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

    The Tick is brilliant!

Gimme Gimme Gimme is absolutely terrible though. And Darma and Greg, and Will and Grace. And Friends. And Time Gentlemen Please.

But worst of all has to be Just The Five Of Us. I mean the premise was just so unbeleivable and so much of it was unexplained. And the drunken tramp urinating everywhere - what's so funny about that? "Not in my house!" indeed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

Does The Tick count as a sitcom? Either way it's brilliant and shouldn't be criticised (by anyone!). Only messing, I like it but I guess it would be a little offbeat for some people.

I'm not really sure about Seinfeld. I don't like it and I don't watch it - so I can't say I could criticise it. From the little I've seen I really can't imagine why it has a cult status - maybe that's just the Americans?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 124 ✭✭neohoki

    Seinfeld is good....
Why do ppl think it is bad....?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

I haven't watched Seinfeld enough to come with a reason why I don't like it. I've seen it on tv loads of times and it never really compelled to leave the station on very long. I reckon if I gave it a chance it would be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 975 ✭✭✭genie

'Give my Head Peace' is the absolute pits. And BBC NI keeps making series after series after series - can't understand it! Can hardly understand them, come to think of it...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

The only gripe i had with seinfeld was the lack of time allocated to Cosmo Kramer, georges dad(ben stillers dad) and Newman. They were the best characters on the show, imo kramer deserves his own show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Seinfeld is a very american comedy and that why most people over here don't like it. I laugh sometimes at it.

The Drew Carey Show I think is very funny, sometimes it can be very over the top but mostly its good. The live shows tend to be the worst.

Any Sky One attempt at making anything on thier own is useless.

    Mile High
    The Dream Team
    Time Gentle Men Please
    Brit Sex
    USA Sex
    Uncovered everywhere
TITS TITS TITS and more TITS (sorry just point out whats good about these shows.)

oh whats the name of that comedy with the guy Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt, Mad about you?

Perhaps back in the day it was good, but the reruns they show on paramount are just ............ unfunny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Must say I do hate Seinfeld.

And yes the rack on the one from that cry baby programme is quite superb, I definatley would even if she does have red hair. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

I think at this stage a picture has to be provided. (slydice style) :D

Never thought 3rd Rock From the Sun was much good. Seinfeld has it's moments, though overall it's not that funny.
I like Friends a lot but I have to admit, some episodes just don't cut it. Others are priceless!
    Frasier's crap too.

I can't actually remember the name of the programme just the cry baby and the rack so I've been furiously googling in vain.

Evening Shade - Burt Reynolds diastrous foray into the realm of laughter-making.

Home Improvement is pretty hot on its heels though.

The girl with the big tits is from 'Nikki', it used to be on e4 and paramount. I agree that it was pretty dirt, but you cant deny her titties look very edible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    Yar that be her indeed.
And the program is called Nikki, I remembered when I saw her name.

I also remember she was in California Dreams playing a blind girl that went out with Sly. :)

The Office - WHAT THE FUDGE? The main actor is not funny, the other actors are not funny. It is just not funny

Will and Grace - Like OMG. How much comedy can be squeezed from a camp man trying to be funny?

Seinfeld - That stupid instrument they play between scenes. And the effort that actor puts into trying to be funny. If you have to try hard, you won't be funny.

Give my Head Peace - Probably 'cos I'm not from the North

The Royale Family - Probably 'cos I'm not from the England

Having said that, there are a large amount of sitcoms on my fave list.

    It is what it's.

    Other nominations:
Any US SiFi comedy apart from Mork and Mindy / Third rock from the sun / Pigs in space / the one where the cop's partner is a robot. (Brits still do the best SiFI comedy)
    eg: Lost in Space...

Hancocks Half Hour - (I can watch Bilko till my eyes bleed..)

It's so hard to belive that Will and Grace are second only to Friends in the US ratings

    ==========================================
OK folks - if it is offbeat and has a cult following then you can assume it is meeting the demands of it's target audiance..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

I'm not going to rant as I've done enough in past, but you need to watch Seinfeld over a period of time to get into it also there is lots of New York humour in it people don't get the subtle references also.
and going back to the re saying Cosmo Kramer should get his own show well he did The Michael Richards show but it was Axed, Elaine's show was axed Jason Alexanders's (George) show axed the only show which hasn't been axed is the creator of Seinfeld Larry David's show CYE magnificant season 4 in the Autumn.
lots of people tried to copy Seinfeld but didn't succeed, Friends for example came after it.
This was the best sitcom of the 90's what other show would get away with doing a ep about masterbation and get away with it?
well Sein succeeded because they didn't use the M word.:)

    Time Gentlemen Please- WORST EVER

    Also:
    Dharma & Greg
    Will & Grace
    That 70's show
    Frasier
    Everybody Loves Raymond
    Seinfeld
    Becker

    The Royle Family

Seinfeld - That stupid instrument they play between scenes.

I really liked Seinfeld. One of the few US sitcoms that were any good. Used to like Taxi when I was younger, but caught an episode recently and it was way too sentimental for my liking.

Agree with you on the point of them doing the slap bass between scenes on a synth. Should definitely have used a real bass!

    Seinfeld

    3rd Rock From the Sun

Do you like any Sit Com herbie747 because you mention nearly every single one their just in that list.

People don't like american Sitcom in general American sit com is different to brit coms. And when you look at it as a whole their are more good american sitcom then good britcoms.

Everyone Loves Raymond, start Ray Romono? is the highest paid sitcom star at the moment.

Surprised to see so many people mention Will and Grace, i think it rather good... maybe i'm a tad biased ;P

Seinfield - irratates me sooo much

Without doubt the 'Time Gentlemen please' should come top of the hall of shame in this survey. Not only is it painfully unfunny but it seems exactly the same jokes are used REPEATEDLY in EVERY single episode.

For example every week without fail the following will happen :

    1) Bald cockney bloke will take the piss out of some other race who aren't as 'Great' as the British. Irish, French, Germans - take your pick.
    2) Skinny Bloke behind bar will say 'Skelingtons' instead of 'Skeletons' ... several times just in case you didn't hear him the first time.
    2) Randy Julia Sawalha character will chase skinny bloke around the pub whilst making lewd comments to him.
    4) Phil Daniels character sit will there drinking 20 pints and spend half the episode farting out the reminants of his packet of scampi fries.
    5) Somebody will insult the girlfriend of the giant biker sitting in the corner which will get him to him to stand up, glower meaningly and then sit down again.
    5) Prudish Rebecca Front character will come in from the brewery and complain about the terrible job Baldy is doing. Baldy will accidently say something insulting to her whilst trying to suck up.
    6) Rival Barman (bloke from eastenders) will come into pub and calls the Bald guy a 'bar-steward'. Geddit?

Oh the hilarity! And what makes it worse is that the show had genunie talents in the shape of of Sawalha, Daniels and Front working on it. I just don't get what happened there!
