Now people before we start- all respect to the woman i have absolutely nothing against her.
    But.........
Why exactly is she a celebrity?
-as far as i know she had 1 successful song she didnt write
-had a go at acting not too sucessfully
-someone let her design a denim jacket if memory serves.
i know this is a bit trivial but why is she still classed as a celebrity? just noticed her mentioned on another thread a couple of times.
is it that she's from a different ethnic backround and she's irish or have i just missed her having a very sucessful career?
    Thoughts?

    Samantha Mumba? old news imo

what does someone need to do to be branded a 'celebrity' these days. there is so many of them now they will surely outnumber the great unwashed in a few years time

I think she had a couple of successful songs that she didn't write.... I vaguely recall a Stevie Wonder track being bastardised.

Although.. in fairness to her.. I didn't think she was too bad in The Time Machine... I was certainly expecting alot worse...

Now.. what ever happened to Keri Anne?

oh lest we not forget. TV3 extended her career in the limelight with her recent court appearance

all it did really was solidify my opinion that TV3's news output is tabloid trash

Doesn't one of her songs feature in the stoopid "3 dead in this car " advert???
shes a twat IMO but what about her "lil big man" brother who managed to appear on a cd called "the history of IRISH POP" without ever having bothered the top 40 at all ????

I loved pat kenny perving over her on the late late show though , great TV - i think he had to take an unscheduled commercial break to go & have a ****

She's a celebrity the same way Troy Mc Clure is a celebrity. You'll be expected to remember her from such quality films as "Time Machine" (load of crap, by the way) but no-one really will remember her in a few year's time.

Even allowing for the fact that she can't sing or act, she's still a hot black babe with a dublin accent.
Novelty factor alone will keep her in the spotlight.

What i find fascinating about samantha mumba is that she's really fuelling her career on the fumes of her marginal success several years ago yet the papers seem to lap it up!!Poor old stephen gately wouldnt make the front page if he found a cure for cancer.
(well maybe he would but you know what i mean)
its annoying to hear louis walsh talking about how she "will be huge" when all she seems to do is wear nice dresses & avoid paying motor insurance.

More importantly why do all women hate her? Its like she has a hate-feremone. I feel pretty sorry for her to be honest, she did her best to become famous and all people do is slate her. I know someone will write back that "why feel sorry for her she has loads of money" or something along those lines, but what good is that to her when everyone so freely express's there hate for her. On any occasion that I have heard people seeing her out or meeting her she has taken abuse of some begrudging wánker.

Im not particularaly partial to the girl but I do think give her a break, she on the border of being an A/B celebrity, so what? Leave her be! She isnt hurting anyone, she might be a spa but she is doing no harm.

    LOL

I thought she was good in the Time Machine.

BTW this thread is only fueling that Celebrity Culture the OP hates...

"she might be a spa but she is doing no harm"

youre dead right there BUT I think the problem with some of these "manufactured" celebs is that they start to believe their own hype rather than keeping their mouths shut & smiling when asked.People see Samantha Mumba in this category, cos she plays the game & therefore comes off as arrogant.
From what ive heard shes a nice enough girl & she certainly wasnt behaving like a DIVA when i last saw her, helping her mother with the shopping in tesco in Santry.
For me its That little sour faced Cnut from westlife (KIAN?) who i'd like to punch, but for the life of me i cant really rationalise my hatred.
on the other hand Keith Duffy is an absolute spanner with no singing ability & a modicum of success at playing himself in corrie.Somehow i cant help but like him - maybe its cos he's honest? or maybe its cos he seems to know his place.(youre never gonna hear him talk about how he "wants to do shakespeare darling" are you??)

I dont agree. I think girls have alot more sympathy for her than guys. Lads attitude seems to be (quick and pointless survey done in office!) "Id do her, tell all my mates and then run like hell". Whereas the girls say shes tried and maybe failed but at least she tried. And she was never an airhead like Glaenda Gleeson...Think thats her name.....model with very arched eyebrows.

Id better do some work. :(

    She's not hot IMO.

I see her up in Westwood gym occasionally. She doesn't stand out at all. I wouldn't have noticed her when I first saw her had it not been for a few lads around the place constantly glancing over at her.

    K.

jesus I never knew so many people hated her. Did she do anything really bad or is it just people dont like her in general

anyway: entertainer + famous = celeb

Agreed, but in saying that I would like to punch all current and ex members of that band. Ok, ok brian McFathead I would punch a few times. Each time I did punch I would be singing "thats not real to meeeeeeeee" with my teeth clenched.

In fairness, when her songs first came out, they were all the rage, if she released more then there's a good chance they'll be all the rage too. I've met them a few times, and they're always pretty sound.

She did a cover of David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes'.
Love DB and I did like her version.....I think this was one of the songs that was on the car safty ad campaign a few years back.

That Cian muppet apparantly got the s**t kicked outta him in a chippers in Sligo a few years back! :D

The only reason she's famous is because she's black, AND Irish. Black AND Irish!!! The media seem to spray their trousers when a black AND Irish person comes in the limelight. I think her face is monkeyesque. I remember a few years ago the front page of some rag was "OMEO (or whatever her little brother's name is): THE NEW JACKO?". Yeah right he's the new jacko, he's nothing, just because he's an ethnic minority with an irish accent doesn't mean they have to be famous. Maybe that's why you see so many ugly inner city birds with black babies, it's pretty much a dead cert that the media will go crazy because they're black AND irish, netting them a few quid. I saw Mumba at my gym once, her arse is pretty big.

Yeah... I couldn't find a damn thing either and I just wanted to get the correct spelling for her name.

She was Louis Walsh's first big attempt at a female solo pop singer.

    'Do-do-do-do-do you love me boy?'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 363 ✭✭SparkyLarks

Kerri-ann is the correct spelling i believe

found some stuff on google .

remember the rumour that her and Stephen Gatley were dating

I don't see why everyone is dissing her and her bro. She made it to the charts and just did what she wanted to do - sing. I never saw the Time Machine so I can't comment on her acting skills..

What's everyones problem with her? The media are just trying to get over the fact that the Irish have a 'somewhat' successful black singer/actress..

She's still around? I thought she'd have been reduced to living on the streets giving head to drunken hobos for her next fix ages ago...
