Toe Covers or Full overshoes

I had been looking for a set of reasonably priced overshoes, and I came across toe Covers, specifically Galibier's Mistral toe Covers.

Thinking about it, it seems that only my toes get cold when I'm out for a spin.

Is there any reason to opt for the full cover over the toe cover?

Not much experience with toe covers but I'd imagine they work best in cold and dry, wouldn't be great in the wet?

Have both but would use the overshoes on wet roads or really cold days, have a pair of BBB heavy duty overshoes.

Use Castelli Toe Thingy covers on milder dry days.

I'd be thinking about these in terms of cold, dry days, because feck cycling in the rain

I had toe covers and they wore out fairly quickly, they were ok but nothing like the comfort of the overshoes I replaced them with.

Came across these while browsing the site. Full covers for not much more than the price of the toe Covers.

Anybody got any experience? I know in general the Galibier stuff is highly regards around these parts

    I have a pair :-)

Welcome to have a look if you want, probably closer in function to toe covers than full winter gear but work well.

Might take you up on that. Or at least ask many inane questions

Whatever you go for, just bear in mind they all wear out pretty fast. I rarely get more than 2 seasons out of shoe covers. Mine all seem to always go on the point where the toe touches the ground. For what it's worth I recommend the BBB heavy duty ones, not too expensive and nice and warm. For me it noeprene or nothing with these things.

I have a set of the VU DWR oversocks in yellow and find they don't do much to keep my feet warm. I've worn them two or three times since getting them in September and haven't worn them in about 6 weeks.
Maybe the VARS DWR's are better - I don't know.

I'm wearing overshoes pretty much any time I'm out now.
Even with decent mudguards, I've found myupper shoe area getting wet. The roads can be quite damp or wet and the spray does get onto your feet.
Whilst I have the Mistral Toe Covers, for me in this kind of weather, I'm happier wearing the overshoes.
The overshoes also have the added benefit of adding a layer of protection from the cold around your ankles.

I think I'm going to buy a pair of those Galibier Artic overshoes. Maybe cooking into the Spring I'll pick up a pair of toe Covers. Thanks very much for all the advice and recommendations, folks

    I bought a pair of these recently - https://www.halfords.ie/cycling/bike-accessories/commuter-bike-accessories/ridge-core-overshoe---black-755128.html

Cheap and cheerful but keep your feet toasty. Can’t imagine going out without them on at the minute.

Got an email from Galibier about their Barrier 3 Overshoe. More aimed at MTB use but have ordered a pair for 0-5 degree winter use on the road bike. Must tell the young lad that his Christmas present to me is sorted! They seem quite robust and should last a good few winters. The heavy duty BBB ones weren't bad but the neoprene eventually cracked at a joint on the instep.

Hmm, now I'm wondering would I have been better off with these instead of the Arctic II. Buyer's remorse is a terrible thing :D

Having wimped out the last two weekends, I decided I was cycling today regardless of the weather. Obviously, it rained on me immediately.

It was a short spin today, because reasons. I did, however, get to try out the Arctic II overshoes. They kept my feet nice and warm, no numb toes.

Also, this is my 5,000th post. Only took 16 years

Good to hear the Arctic overshoes are doing the job. My Barrier 3 ones are sitting under the Christmas tree with strict instructions not to open then till the 25th. I expect I'll be able to give feedback on them after the next cold spell.

I can give an opinion on three different overshoes, as they have just arrived. I tried them all on for size, but haven't brought them out for a spin.

    1. https://galibier.cc/product/barrier-overshoe/

The Galibier Barrier 3 are pretty much sized as per the site, size L are perfect over my muddyfox size 10 shoe(probably really a 9.5) they are neoprene in the main, with an extra rubber coating around the toe area. I think this will e tend their longevity.
Immediately I put them on, I could feel the warming properties.

These feel like they're ideal for cold, wet cycling.

    2. https://galibier.cc/product/yellowoversocks/

    Galibier VU DWR OVERSOCKS

These are basically over socks, , yet Galibier say that they have a teflon coating for water dispersal. Size large perfect again..

These feel like they'd be perfect for cold dry days.

    3. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/velotoze-tall-overshoes?sku=5360756002

    VeloToze Tall Overshoes

These are basically just latex overshoes/socks, with no heating qualities at all, but completely waterproof. Youd have to be careful putting these on, or the longevity wont be much. (Watch the video for putting on instructions)

Sizing in these is XL is probably a touch too big for my size 9.5, but the stretchy qualities probably disguise it enough.

Probably best for warm, wet days , or just summer type weather, but for €6.82 if you're XL or small size.
