Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, Just wondering are there any supports available for 3rd level students who have lost their jobs (temporarily) due to the pandemic? Not eligible for susi or any other grant and solely reliant on work income. Cant find any info about students.
    thanks

The COVID 19 Payment is for everyone including casual workers such as students.

I read it but there is no reference to students which are normally excluded from such payments, was just looking for clarification before applying.

I think it is for everyone according to the media reports...

    It does say:

There is no restriction on people aged between 18 and 66 years applying for the payment provided they have been in employment up to now and it has ceased.

So I imagine it covers students (over 18)! There is no harm in applying and they will try to get applications processed asap!

I saw that but its a bit sparse on details, I just want to avoid a situation where they will pay out with minimal checks and then seek to recover the money due to students being ineligible.

TBH, that would be a much better situation than not being given the payment at all. You could either work out a reasonable repayment plan at a later date or they may end up cancelling the requirement for re-payments made to those who were technically ineligible.

If you have to repay it so be it. Seems the lesser of two evils to me.
E5 or E10 a week is better than having no income at all for now.

There was no mention of students in this situation, it would probably be a case by case situation where if you get an O/P letter, you show you were working PT and its wrote off but if Joe Soap was assessed and it was found he wasnt working at all and a FT student he'd be hit with it.

I agree , Get it if you need it, Seek forgiveness rather than permission! pay back at €1 a week for 40 years. I think social welfare are doing the right thing here try to help as many people people as possible in the short term and worry about the small % who may abuse it later.

Yes its possible something like that will be done. I don't need the money right now but I will depending on how long this goes on for, I just am trying to avoid applying for something I'm not entitled to.

That’s very decent of you but I think this’ll go on for months. Apply for it, don’t go crazy spending it and then if please God this ends soon and you need to repay it, do. Good luck. And try to keep up with your studies x

You’re going to get the emergency payment but only for the 6 weeks max. You won’t get JSB/A after that because your not available for work.

I don’t know how much clearer you need it then whats here:
