1100 update from met eireann

Heavy rain will clear the east coast early this afternoon, but showers and drizzle in the west will then spread eastwards during the afternoon and will only clear away to the east this evening. A mild day with highs of 8 to 12 degrees in fresh to strong southerly winds which will veer southwest to west later. However it will become much cooler early this evening.
Tonight

It will become extremely windy tonight as strong to gale force southwesterly winds develop. There will be some severe, possibly damaging gusts in particular along western and northwestern coasts. It will also become cold with widespread showers of rain, sleet, hail and snow especially in parts of the north and west with the risk of thunder. Temperatures will fall to between 0 and 3 degrees so some frost is possible in sheltered areas.

Tomorrow

It will remain extremely windy tomorrow with strong to gale force southwesterly winds, and it will be stormy at times in parts of the west and north, with further severe gusts likely. A colder day with highs of only 4 to 8 degrees and there will be more squally showers of rain, sleet, hail and snow as well as some thunder. The strong winds will start to ease off during the afternoon.

Also ice warning in place STATUS YELLOW

Snow-ice Warning for Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo
Wintry showers will develop early tonight, with a mixture of hail, sleet and snow with accumulations of up to 3 cm likely, larger values are possible on higher ground. With strong winds forecast, driving conditions could become poor. The showers will continue into Monday morning.

All the regulars must be still in bed, after a few weeks of quite weather we have a storm coming and very little from the posters.

Yeah I was wondering why so little activity. After yesterday's RTE weather forecast mentioning strong winds I had a look at the weather forum here to see if there was a warning up but nothing so I assumed we'd be ok. Not so - Orange warnings all of a sudden this morning.

Either that or they've all left the country for "Stormier Climes" to get a bit of action after the calm few weeks we've had.
