Stoner/doom/slowcore classic bands & albums

I've recently come to this type of music through alternative bands like My Bloody Valentine, I really like the new Windhand album and other stuff by Sleep and Jesu. Any more recommendations you guys might have would be great!

Doom is a genre I'm slowly familiarising myself with. Ahab's The Giant provided a great introduction, as it contains melodic segments, as well as bone crunchingly heavy ones

For some great psychedelic doom/stoner music you can go wrong with Ufomammut. Snailking is an immense album.

For some traditional, Sabbath-worshiping doom metal, Reverend Bizarre are great to listen to. They didn't take themselves too seriously either which is refreshing in a way.

Slowcore has nothing to do with metal sound-wise but I find that some slowcore bands, like Codeine and Low, are bleaker than most doom metal bands I've listened to. Codeine are probably the definitive slowcore band and one of the most depressing bands I've ever listened to. They only released two albums - Frigid Stars ans The White Birch.

Since you like Sleep, you might as well check out some of the early Om stuff, who are a spin off of Sleep featuring Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius (in the earlier stuff anyway). Just sweet distorted bass and drums.

The Angelic Process were just an incredible band. Nobody combined crushing, ear-shattering guitars and raw emotion like they did.

I've yet to listen to them much on their own, but there's a collaborative album with Lento that I am really enjoying at the moment...

This track is great... really slow and menacing with a great build-up. End's with a wall of psychedelic guitar noise....

I was recommended this band recently on the basis that they provide a link (of sorts..) in terms of style between Codeine and Sleep... pretty apt description I think...

Man... few songs affect me as much as Vacancy by Codeine... one of the best bands imo, but they can be a tough listen emotionally.

Codeine are probably my favourite slowcore band.

I got into True Widow a couple of years ago when they released their second album As High as the Highest Heavens and From the Center to the Circumference of the Earth (long title, I know). I've seen the term 'stonegaze' attached to them which seems humorously apt. They have a great mixture of shoegaze and stoner rock influences which makes them stand out a bit. Great band, I enjoyed their latest album Circumambulation as well.
