New routes up on http://tourdeburren.com - no radical changes really (none really needed I guess :D)

Very interested to see what this Glann Hill is like that's replacing Corker - could be interesting!

Looking forward to the whole thing - it's a brilliant event, one not to miss if you can swing getting to it.

[Edit: Pipped to the post, d'oh!]

I've been thinking of signing up, looks pretty class!
I'll probably do the 100km route.

100km route, profile below (might not be 100% correct!)tourdeburren100km2011.jpg

Also, 60km route, profile below (again, might not be 100% correct!)

the 160km route is a bit too much of a challenge for me at the moment :o

There are 13 turns on the ascent to Glann. It is a demanding climb but there is a great vista at the top if you can afford the time to stop and smell the roses.

Just found it - search for Glencolumbkille South, Clare in google maps and it'll put you at the base of the climb (use the satellite view to get the best idea of it).

Plugged it into ridewithGPS - says it's about 1.7kms long, gains ~100m and some nice 10% sections on it. Noice.

Really looking forward to this. I've done it the past 2 years and found it to be such a well run event.

Interesting to see what the new 160km route will be like.
    Must register today now.

Hopefully with enough ass kissing, I'll be able to book this day off work. It's only two weeks before my holidays, so I don't know how good my chances are.

Really interested in doing the 160k but im doing the maracycle the following weekend might be a foolish thing to do so close might do the 100k instead.

Wonder what's the weather going to be like on June 18th this year? Another nice sunny day would be most welcome for this.

It's a bit hard to get a forecast for 3 weeks time.
you could check out what the guys are predicting in the June 2011 Boards forecast contest
They seem to be fairly optimistic about the weather this month! smile.gif

    thinking of doing the 160k

but have never cycled more than 100k in one day, would it be possible to finish the course??

is there any point in trying to get a few big spins in between now and the 18th or is it too late

Thinking of doing this myself-just unsure whether to do 60 or 100k . Did my first solo 50 k (Rathmines-stepaside-johny foxes-enisskerry-djouce woods and back via enniskerry road) yesterday and felt like I could have gone a bit further. I'm leaning towards doing the 100, will probably try and do a 75 k ride this weekend and see how I get on. Hopefully the sun turns up on the day anyway!

Sign-on will take place on the Sea Front, Ballyvaughan on Friday evening (17th June) 4pm-10pm and on Saturday morning (18th June) during the following times: 7.30am-8.30am (160km & 100km), 10.30am (60km) and 10.30am-12noon (10 km).

Start times will be as follows:
    160km, The Burnin Burren: 9.30am
    100km, Burren 100: 11.00am
    60km, Corkscrew Challenge: 11.00am
10km, Aillwee Cave Family Loop: 12.30pm

For the 100km cyclists that can only sign-on the Saturday morning, its crazy that they have to hang around for 2 and a half hours plus for it to start at 11am. That needs sorting out.

If you did 50 on your own, the 100 in a group will be fine for you. If you've been training out around Enniskerry and Johnny Foxes then you'll have plenty of experience with a bit of climbing so I'd say go for the 100.

@ mcgratheoin-cheers for the reply, yeah I think I'll go for the 100k alright.

As for having to sign in by 8.30, that seems crazy, It'll be tough to get there by that time,as I'm coming from Dublin-hopefully there's some way around that or they change the times. Don't fancy hanging around twiddling my thumbs for two hours either

That's not good:confused:. Is that cut-off for registration going to be adhered to? I was hoping to do the 100KM but the wait between registration and the start is crazy. I also have a long drive that morning. I might do the 160KM instead. Sure I'd be better off cycling than waiting around. I'd have the extra 60KM cycled in the two and a half hours wait.

That early sign in is nuts - I have the best part of a 3 hour drive beforehand which I was planning on doing that morning - will have to reassess the entry now as I am only doing the 100km but have no interest in a crazy early start in the car as I defo can't make it down the night before

I Just spoke to the Clare Sports Partnership and there is a typo in the printed application form. The Sign on Times are http://tourdeburren.com/index.php?page=terms-conditions-of-entry

THERE IS NO 2 HOUR WAIT!! PHEW!!

Well that's good at least. An 11am start is quiet late though.

Anyone know if there are any clearer maps of the routes available than those on the Tour De Burren website. Very hard to get an idea of the route from the ones they provide, incredibly blurry and can't really zoom into them. Wouldn't mind trying a portion of the route this weekend to get an idea of it.

Cheers, seen that earlier. Was hoping to come across a version of the 160 km route. Only the 60 and 100 km routes show here. Live nearby and am hoping to do some of the route this weekend

OK couldn't find the 160 km route on MapMyRide so made up the one below from a combination of the 100 km route provided on the first page of this thread, the description on the TDB site and the blurry route provided on TDB also. Its coming up about 5 km longer than stated on the site so could be wrong somewhere. Feel free to correct me.

Based on previous editions of the 160 (as well as I can remember it anyhow) and a very good educated guess at the new section at the start I figure this is a pretty accurate attempt at the route.
