Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking for my old cars

    Hi folks,
just wondering if anyone out there might have come-across or might know where either of the following cars are:
    1. Mini, reg. 852HIP. Colour: Silver roof over maroon. Was "scrapped" by my mother in 1997. However, from anecdotal evidence, some of them didn't quite make it to scrappage and appeared in different guises afterwards!!! So plate may be different but colour should be the same.

    2. Cevrolet ChevyII (Nova), reg UIM240. Colour: Blue. I sold this to a guy in Galway and regretted it from the moment he drove away in it. Not that it was particularly special or anything but it was a nice car and had an Irish plate, which is rare enough on a Chevy.

Really only looking looking to find out for nostalgia sake as I practically grew up in the mini and I just really liked the Chevy.
    Any help would be grateful.

UIM 240 is still alive and well.

Heres a pic I took of it in '02 at a vintage rally in Streete Co. Longford.

Thanks Kevin. Wow it looks great. I hope it still looks as good. I'd love to have that car back, it was a great daily driver as it was not very big and quite practical really. If you ever hear of it for sale let me know!!!
Didn't you have an ex- UN car at one point? A green Ford from what I can remember?

I will of course. I'll see if I can track it down.

Thats right, ex World Health Organisation! You have a good memory.

Yeah, I remember it, I always thought it was a cool car. You still got it?
You actually might remember the other car I had, a 1964 Buick Skylark Special Convertible. It was blue with a white roof?

    Yeah I still have it.
Now I know who you are :D
I do remember it, V6 wasnt it? I wonder will it ever hit the streets again?!

Last time I saw it, it wasn't looking so good. It was languishing outside a garage on the Tramore Rd. Exposed to all the elements. Not good for a convertible. Shame really, it was a lovely car.
Yeah she had a lovely V6 engine which was unusual enough at the time.

    Interesting thread.

Dont suppose my first car is still alive out there -

Was the Nova sold new here? Was it an embassy car? nice car all the same, what year is UIM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭montec

From what I remember, it was brought over here almost as new by a guy who moved here from the states. UIM is 1963, I think (although I stand to be corrected!). The car is definitely a 63.

WCI 379 is the reg of that Nova, lovely car.
AFAIK he had aspirations of making a replica of the car from Deathproof!!!

Yes it did have nice comfy vinyl rear bench seats as I fondly remember. ;)
It was originally my grandads car from new then my mums then mine. Then it got stolen by the council and locked in their yard, they demanded money and said if I didn't pay they'd lock me up. I borrowed £150 from my mum to pay them off and got the car back, which I then had to sell for £150 to pay my mum back. I told her that we should keep it but she knew better. Better than leaving it in the hands of the MaFFia I guess.
We would get slightly more than £150 for it now I think!
