Very disruptive snowfall in the Midlands, West and North over the next 48hrs. Anything up to 15cm's - locally more. Be careful when driving and please post pictures!:D

Elsewhere rain will clear Wednesday morning (possibly sleet and snow for a time Tuesday Night). Milder then recently with temperatures up to 8 or possibly even 9C in the far South. Lower further North generally 2 - 4C but near 0C in the North and Northwest.

Fingers crossed. i can see that low pressure forming out off the west coast. Lets hope it doesnt bring in Atlantic air. Warmer of late here this morning in mayo, currently -1.7c!

It's basically North of anywhere on the warm front

There will certainly be snow North of that front.

Quite a nice morning here. No frost on grass. Temp about -1. Slight breeze. Could describe it as a pleasant morning.

Not waiting for snow as the last time I waited it stalled at the border about 10 miles south of me.

Just wondering if it gets to me will my position 1 mile from the coast have a negative effect ?

Wakey wakey Pangea, Graces7 and Harp. There's a front acoming!! :)

Where is Graces7? Between her and Owenc missing, the place is just not the same! :D

1.7c here atm, DP -2.3c. Good stats but I'm pretty sure they'll go pear shaped as front moves up. Hoping for nothing (but watching ;)).

I expect all you boardies in the west will think of your favourite neighbours in the east and be wishing the snow to pass over Kildare :)

Feels milder and breezy here this morning. Rain not far away I fear. Better luck to you more northern guys.

I think Donegal and west Mayo have the best chance of longer spells of snow tonight at the furthest extent of the cold air. Further south should be rain - and a lot of it, except over mountains. The higher Wicklow mountains could get 10-15cms of snow by morning

IF it does snow here I am going to pretend to be completely surprised. As the day gies on the ramping wiill increase I guess but I will resist the temptation.

Awww. Eugene Lambert has died. Bosco would have enjoyed the snow. :(

Am I totally deluded in thinking that if esat winds increase, it will drag in colder air and good DPs from the UK to give more favourable conditions for the east (inland from the sea)?

    E.g. M2 Bouy is 4c/-2c atm and Valley -1c/-4c.

Looks to me like the front may move up a little quicker than forecast?

Ladies and Gentlemen please be upstanding and welcome to south Cork.... The last chance of snow for the winter... Come on, come on give it a rousing Irish welcome ! Make it feel at home. It might stay a while, put it's feet up and have a good dump !

you're not. You,ve more hope than most of urban Dublin.
The m2 figures will rise with mixing as the front comes up over water and I suspect by too much to help the coast.
Valley has a land breeze so thats the reason for it's dp so low and may well see snow later.

    1.3/-2.9

temps really are rising fast,i don't think we have a hope, was a slight frost a 6am, was -1.4 nearly up by two degrees already,in shelter from the breeze its the warmest ive felt in a long time.
crossing fingers, legs, arms whatever i can in the hope that this terrible snow winter for Meath finishes with a bang........

    @ BB - thanks, was expecting poo-pooing.

If the wind can stay east or very slighty north of east here, I think there may be some chance of transitional sleet or snow for a bit. If the wind changes anything to the south of east, then no hope. Agree that when front arrives it will mix everthing up.

Big problem with this front and system really is the source air/winds are wrong (from the mid Atlantic, rather than from a cold eastern Europe).

Really my heads knows why it shouldn't snow (source air is not right, etc) but my heart is watching and hoping for snow! That's the madness of weather watching I suppose!

    M2 3c/-2c : 2.2c/-1.9c here.

Well your guest has arrived but has completely misread my invite. I don't recall mentioning anything to it about drizzle and 5 degrees. Maybe it'll be more mannerly when I send it on its way.

Some temps and dewpoints in the south at 8am this morning.

    Waterford Airport +3/0 Cloudy
    Sherkin Island +4/+3 Light Rain
    Valentia +4/+1 Cloudy
Cork Airport +3/0 Light Rain (08:30am)
    Johnstown Castle +3/-1 Cloudy
    Kerry Airport +2/0 Cloudy (08:20am)
    Oak Park +2/-2 Cloudy

  • Just saw the bbc news 24 weather and their graphics clearly showed snow as the band moves up the East Coast inland.
Crucially though they have snow right to the coast and a bit out to sea near Dublin before after a couple of hours it's all blue.

That would be the latest NAE telling them that which I have less faith in by the way than some as the other day it was showing snow in valentia with rain inland on high ground...

snow doesn't turn to rain heading inland...unless it's coastal Egypt :D

Looks like an all snow event for west and mid ulster and initially Belfast (rain tomorrow in Belfast).

So an interesting day ahead. The forecast is starting to come to fruition with some rain reported in the south. Milder morning in Dublin today, the wind is making it feel much colder than it actually is.

Anyone have an idea of the time that the east is supposed to get sleet/snow if it happens....its evening time right?

Sleet in Cork which I'm surprised at though I am on highground.
That's a good sign for rest of ye!

Should be good in Fermanagh so. One thing I noticed on Saturday night was that it felt really mild during that snow shower. We were out walking the dogs at 11:30 PM and it was lovely, didnt feel cold at all.
