Dad's HP G60 Notebook is no longer booting up properly.
Error on bootup: No bootable device - insert boot disc and press ok.

    Info:
It is in warranty until Apr 2010
    OS: Windows Vista
    T1600 1.666GHz, 1024MB RAM
Think he used Norton until it ran out - didn't renew it. Now using AVG.
    Service Provider is Perlico.

I've gone into the BIOS and gives me options F1 Sys Info, F2 Startup Test, F3 Run in Test, F4 Hard Disk Test, F11 Error Log, & Esc more info HP.com/go/techcenter/Startup.

Results I get from F4 Hard Disk Test:
    00% Complete
#10008 Replace Hard Disk 1 rent test item
    Full Test is executing
    00% complete
#10008 - Replace Hard Disk 1 rent test item
    Smart Check
    Smart Hard disk Passed
    Esc Exit

When I press Esc it shows
    "Hard Disk Test" Failed
    Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)
    Hard Disk 1 Full (305)

I can give you the results from F2 and F3 if needed.
I presume his Hard disk is corrupt or broken and needs replacing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Edited:
I've tried F4 again and now I'm getting
    Hard disk not exist
    Esc Exit

Sounds like the hard drive in the laptop has died, it is what stores your files/folders/operating system etc so it wont boot to windows if this device dies. It is generally replaceable and once a new drive is in you can go about reinstalling windows on the laptop. I see it is under warranty so I would try and find a contact number for HP support and get onto them with those errors codes and fault details as they will probably send an engineer (I imagine, I've never dealt with HP support) to call out and replace the hard drive.

I have a similar problem, I did the run-in test and it failed.
Hard disk 1 quick 303 error, the thing is it was working perfectly before, no problems, now its just stuck on a black screen and it must be doing something, cause the fan is going...
