Most likely sold out their stock they had at 409 or sold enough of them as loss leaders to revert back to the new price (only guessing though).

Absolutely DO NOT buy a single thing off this company.
I ordered a latop and paid the extra delivery for it to be here before Christmas as it was a 'Santa' present-my house is full of believers. Christmas eve came and went, not a word from Pixmania. Their Irish number had been taken down off the website and even so, their offices close at 5pm-so what happens if at 5.15 your order still hasnt arrived?
Then tried contact UPS, their carrier, and my tracking order as provided by Pixmania "wasn't recognised".

I cancelled my order but Pixmania proceeded to send it out FIVE days after Christmas after going and spending the money on a new laptop in the shops and they took my money.

If I wanted a laptop from Pixmania 5 days after Christmas I would've quite happily have waited for their sales and not paid the extra delivery, saving myself over €80 and alot of stress on Christmas day explaining Santa thought a different one would be better...

At the very least I felt the decent thing for the company to do would be refund me my €80 and I very politely suggested this only to be refused point blank with argument that had nothing to do with the case I put forward. There is absolutely no goodwill in that company and they are an absolute con.

And far from being the "Irish" company they present themselves as, with their .ie and Irish phone number they have now taken away in a matter of days, only when you fill out loads of forms to return it are you told that you have to spend a fortune to send it back to France.

Avoid Pixmania at all costs. They are fakes, shams and utter conmen.
Dont just take my word for it, google pixmania complaints and see what you get-something I should've thought about doing in the first place.

Yeah, I ordered a TV off them before Christmas and was supposed to receive it by the 23rd... of course, still no sign of it.

They are impossible to contact by phone.

Standard practice in the pre-teleportation era is to send stuff back to an online company when its faulty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 aidcor

Thanks for that, I kind of meant the question to be along the lines of
has anyone had to send anything back to parcel force and if so did they charge loads and did pixmania then charge more for fixinf it etc

I've ordered a few things from them in the past with no real problems.

They sent me a wrong item once and they asked me to return it and they refunded the cost of posted the item back as well

I have used Pixmania for a few years now and ordered tonnes of stuff - only ever had 1 problem. They sent me a faulty DVD Recorder - so I called them on the phone about it, and they said I would have to return it to France, and they would send it off for repair - this would take 3-5 weeks! I said I didn't subscribe to that stupid policy and said just give me a refund and collect the DVD player yourself - I'm not paying to return it either, and I dont have time to haggle when I was 100% not accepting their resolution, so just hurry up and refund me! They said absolutely no way. Then the Supervisor said they don't do that - it has to be tested then sent off for a repair. I was fuming when I hung up.
So I sent a long e-mail to them explaining how ridiculous this was that they'd just charged me, then sent me a DVD Recorder that was faulty, and then expected me to pay extra shipping and wait 3-5 weeks for my item - I threatened SCC since they are registered in Ireland as a legal company, and I also threatened a Visa chargeback, and said that I would never use Pixmania again & actively encourage others to do likewise (this always works): and within an hour, they refunded by Pixmania "piggy bank" (essentially a credit note) for the full amount and they arranged for Parcel Force to collect it at their expense.
Nice one - but they were absolutely not budging on the phone, and I was freaked at their cheek of asking me to wait 3-5 weeks! That said, I have NEVER not gotten satisfaction, but this is the closest I ever came - man, they were so stubborn on the phone - I was surprised my e-mail sorted it!

    Thanks I will try that

I wouldnt recommend Pixmania at all. When something goes wrong, it really goes wrong.

Similar to the OP i purchased an item as a gift that was advertised as pre Christmas delivery. Only 2/3 of the items appeared before Christmas and their customer service (based in India) were about as useful as a chocolate tea pot.

haven't read the whole thread which is pretty lazyof me I know, however, I do know from using Pixmania that they automatically add an extra warranty to most items before you get to checkout, king of like Ryanair adding insurance when you haven't asked for it. I am going to guess this is where the €90 has come from, go through everything in detail and look at the breakdown of charges.

Have used them a few times myself, as long as it works it's fine, however, if you have any issue with the product and need to return it - that's when the nightmare begins.

    Hey Freddie,
Nice work with getting your issue resolved. I'm in a similar situation, I've received a monitor which was advertised as having speakers, the monitor does not have speakers. I'm looking for the Irish contact number for pixmania, can you tell me what number you rang. Also what is the SCC that you mentioned.

I have an order in with them right now, since thursday.
I have my fingers xed,but I am aware of possible problems.

They are the cheapest online suppliers for Ireland for the items Im interested in.
In my case its specialist computer comonents.
nb they are only the cheapest when u disengage the "zen engagement"at your order confirmation stage.
This done by cliking on finding out more about "zen engagement" and scrolling to the end.

This is something like the currys/dixon(now defunct)/pcworld rip u off but big profits for usproduct insurance

I wanted to get disengaged fast!

They charge the european standard vat of 21%,which is essentially .5% lower than here now.
Even with that they are still cheaper than any uk supplier with their lower vat.
I went for the cheaper long delievery option,I would have gone for the faster one but reasoned that it would take so long for the "man in the beret, and striped t shirt, to fill up the cart"(ok so this is anti european sue me) that the price difference wasnt worth it.

On pre cmas delieveries, ina rush,if the product wasnt available locally:
I tink you are going to have to pay "thru the nose" for it..ie not go for the cheapest.
Buy from the US would probably be the safest..not kidding. Pay 30% less for the item pay 3 times the normal delivery cost and also be prepared to pay vat on the total cost if customs nab it.the delievery company will sting you for vat on their own charges whether its "nabbed",or not .

Its like buying stuff on ebay ,youre gonna take some risk.
Get the money back from your cc company, they get plenty of interest from you.
Maybe in a week or so ill be reposting about wot a croc pixmania are.

Right now im hoping itll come thru ok.

Be ready to "nyah nyah na nyah nah" if it doesnt

The goods came thru fairly ok and they work .
They actually supplied a 3 pin adapter for one of the items that had a french 2 pin plug on it,or an Irish 2 pin plug if your wiring hasnt been updated in in 40 years :).

There was a problem about delivery in that one line of the address on the packages was missing.

    It was :
    My Name(present)
    House number/street/townland(present)
    Town(missing)
    County(present)
    Country(present).

Consequently the packages were sent out for delivery from the main county depot but the driver (not suprisingly) couldnt find the town.
I kept an eye on the parcel tracking numbers tho so I had a fair idea of where my items were.
To be sure I contacted the depot and told them to hold the parcels until I collected them personally.
I picked them up on the wednesday, the order was placed on the thursday night and everything is aok so far.
Sure its a risk, and you could be unlucky.
I suppose tho if you are trawling the net doing online shopping and naturally u go for the cheapest price you can get,it probably comes with the territory.
Yes its easy to be smug when your items come thru ok and your blood isnt boiling about a faulty product, crappy returns policy or whatever, but even now if any of my items break down in say 10 months I wouldnt be laying any bets on replacements, even if i had used the voodoo/kamasutra/zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance or whatever it is insurance guarantee.

That's hardly surprising given that Pixmania is run by DSG International, the same company that own Currys, Dixons and PCWorld. It's exactly the same business model, except online. A lot of people are surprised when they find that out...

I bought a Plasma TV from them on eBay and paid for it with Paypal. Several days went bye with not a word from them. When I enquired why it hadn't shipped, they informed me they actually didn't have the TV. They then tried quite hard to get me to agree to a different model, claiming it was equivalent. Not without an inbuilt freesat receiver it wasnt!

I explained to the person trying to get me to switch products that what they were engaged in was bait and switch and was illegal.

It took over a week to get them to refund my Paypal acccount, but at least when they did, I wasn't out of pocket for any conversion fees or such.

I actually probably would deal with them again if the savings were big enough. One trick I discovered with them is look for a promotional code before buying on their site, you can save a few Euros

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/promotional_codes/cmr1_cmp845_cm.html

Always make sure you disable their extended warranties in the checkout process.
