5 FIAT 132's, 3 Renault 20's / 4 Safrane's inc a V6

I'm breaking up fathers collection of Fiat 132's, Renault 20's, Renault 25's, and Renault Safranes.
For those of you who knew him, and it seems at this stage
that he knew nearly all the classics owners in Ireland,
I'm sorry to say that he died quite suddenly,
on the 30th of December 2007.

My Father had the largest collection of Fiat 132
in private ownership on the planet, with numbers peaking up
to about 50 or so examples, 5 years ago.

He had slimmed it down to 30 or so in recent years.

I have sold 2 of his good ones which were condition A PLUS cars,
the only condition B car, and 6 C PLUS cars, last weekend
to a good friend of his, also well known in the classic scene in Ireland.
The cars will remain in Ireland.

Still for sale are 3 Renault 20's, 2 in condition A PLUS, and one in condition C.

4 Renault Safranes, in middling and low condition A,
a Renault 25 condition B,
and lot of very low condition C, Fiat 132's too.

I'll see ye all in Castle Durrow soon,
I'll be driving his White Hero car,
the Immaculate Fiat 132 1800s.
I will also keep the blue 1800s he had too.

any rolling shells or driving/running car's as id be rather intrested... always wanted a weird/alt classic...

Condition A is a complete car in great condition.
Condition B is a restorable project, not a lost cause.
Condition C is a collection of car parts, loosely held together by a porous and rusting chassis.

Each grade has three levels, Plus, standard (no comment), and poor,
so let the first post guide you as to the condition of the cars,
as I rate them.

Sorry to hear about your father. That was a very impressive collection of cars, particularly rarities like the 132 fiat,were they all running and in good shape?And are the renault 20s irish cars?

They were, my boss bought one. I beleive the OP may know him.... Dave is his name??

Gents, thanks for your condolences.

Now, as far as I know, someone is posting up pictures of the cars today.
Please note, ALL the decent and half decent Fiats are sold.

That level of enthusiasm had his financial and emotional life CONSUMED.
I feel that worrying about these cars, (and that is only a part of his collection )
had him stressed to the point of his untimely death.

Rather than aspiring to own a large collection of classics's,
I think it could be a cautionary tale about obsessive behavior,
and getting in too deep.

To maintain five Classic cars in tip-top condition,
is a full time job in my opinion.
He disagreed with me on this one

Yeah that is a site to behold indeed. I assume the better cars were kept indoors ?

Those Fiat 132's the last of them, 200GLS, had a lovely velour interior and were well equiped.

I can relate to that

I can easily see how someone could build up such a large number.:)
I started with my first Renault about 3 years ago. Then I got the second. :rolleyes:None of which were the model I wanted in the first place.Then I bought the 16 with a view to selling the others:(. Then the 18 landed for very little money.:eek:
Now I have advertised the 16,,,,but I turned down an offer:o--because I can't let it go:(,,,,I cant let any of them go:eek:,and I find myself browsing ebay everyday looking for another.

The problem is than when you are interested in alternative classics which can be still bought for small money,its very easy to accumilate them:)

ANYBODY GOT A RENAULT 17???????

The trick is to nip it in the bud at the purchasing stage. Look at a car in its entirety, rather than just the purchase price. In my opinion, with any classic, or semi classic car, the purchase price (if it's not in A1 condition) will be about 25-30% of the total cost of ownership.

I sold off, crushed, and generally dismantled my fleet of Peugeot's over the last two years because it was just getting too much. I'm left with a single 205 GTi project car.

Lifes too short. Get one, enjoy the hell out of it, and if you lust after more, then either sell the one you have, or join a club and go and sit in/drive/talk about/enjoy other peoples collections.

V300 I am sorry for your loss, is it OK (with boards admins permission) if I post those pictures on Octane to see if we can rustle you up some buyers?

The problem with a lot of cars like that(my own Renaults included) is that the cost of restoring them is completely uneconomic.If you do want a number of cars you are much better to seek out the best that you can find,and spend NOTHING on it.

Being an obsessive perfectionist does not help when you have a large classic car collection. I see some classic car owners that are totally happy with cars I would immediately open an excel sheet to list jobs to be done to it.

On the positive side I think I am as obsessive about being methodical and can segment the work on my cars into easily achievable small bites and tend to do one car at a time.

I also set no time limits - it will be done when I can get around to it. That way I don't feel so much pressure.

The only thing that does bug me a great deal is if I have no dry storage for my classics. I can't stand to see any of my classics out in the elements. :rolleyes:

so many cars.... just wondering if your father had any fiat argentas? i think they replaced the 132. Are there any fiats older than the 132 ie 1500?

He had three 1500's ( and one 1100, one 2300 too)
but they well are gone to their new owners.

No complete Argentas, but I did see an Argenta steering rack today...

ideally id be looking for - fait 132 ( the compatition to the mkII escort back in the day right ) wand a 1600 cc abarth or laguna RT engine...

body can be as rusty as can be as it just makes it cheaper for me to build ( no worrys i have a angle grinder , a mg welder and some duck tape )

but haven said that , anytrhing i can afford will be kept going and only sold on tosomeone like myself , a person who takes pride in keeping good , classic cars on the road.

The Renault 20's are not attracting much interest,
is there anyone out there willing to take them on I wonder ?

I'll be ina White, ( with chrome bumpers ) Fiat 132
in Castle Durrow on Sunday, if ye want to come over for a chat.

Question: Would there be any point in bringing the two R20's down to Durrow
with "For sale" signs stuck to them ?

.........the Fiat 132 was always more upmarket than the Escort, more even that the Cortina. I think the 131 Mirifiori was probably in the Cortina class.

Yep, 131 was cortina size,the 132 was trying hard to be a granada size car i think, there was never that many about though was there?

i would be 99% sure to take one of thr r20's what is the price on one i deffo dont want to see them turned to beer cans, if i can help it.
