My mother lives down the road from me and she has no internet.
I was wondering if there is some way I could share my internet with her.
We're down a private road and there is direct line of sight between the 2 houses - approx 500m between the 2 houses (possible less distance).
I was thinking she might watch some Netflix stuff if she had access to it .

Is there a fairly cheap way to do this (by cheap I mean less than say 150 Euro or so) ?

If not, no big deal, as I've not told her I might try to do it.

Look at ubiquiti nanostation. Once you have line of sight distance won't be an issue.

You'd have to run fibre for that distance. Perhaos even bury it. Might be the cheapest way to do it but no way you'd achieve it for the price your looking at. You'd need fibre convertors etc at each end also.

Yeo but good old irish weather might be. Fog, snow, sleet and rain could cause LOS solutiin to act up.

The ubiquiti nanostation range is 15km. It will easily do 500m and I don't think the weather will have much if any effect

https://mikrotik.com/product/RBSXTG-2HnDr2-168 two of these bad boys , mount them chimney side on poles, point them at each other (line of sight) and you're good to go.

So do they just give me an Ethernet connection out of each then ?

    So:

[My connection Ethernet] --> [SXT 2] >>>Over the Air>>> [SXT 2]--->[Ethernet on wireless router WAN in my mothers house] --> Netflix on her TV

    That about right ??

Almost. I would connect to LAN port on your mother's router and turn DHCP server off on that router.

Wow - cool - going point about turning off DHCP - I'll have to buy her a router first !

Sorry to revive this slightly old thread, but I'd like a little bit of advice on getting a higher throughput setup than the originally suggested hardware.

I'd love to get a gigabit+ connection, but the cost seems relatively prohibitive. The Ubiquiti gear would be about €1800 for a pair ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ubiquiti-AF-5-Networks-Mid-Band-Gigabit/dp/B00LV8PPQO/ref=sr_1_19?crid=BW07HKT651DF&keywords=ubiquiti+airfiber&qid=1571397347&sprefix=ubui%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-19 ?) and I couldn't find Mikrotik gear that had gigabit throughput in my browsing of their site.

So, it looks like if I want to get gear capable of 450mbps then my best option would be https://www.mikrotik-store.eu/en/5ghz-sxtg-802.11ac or https://www.ui.com/airmax/nanobeam-ac-gen2. I'd need to buy two (one for each location) so the final cost would be between €200 and €240 for either option. I would expect the final throughput to be at least 300mbps, which'll be fine.

Does that sound about right? Any recommendations one way or the other?

Just wondering how did this go in the end.

I need to get Wifi to a shed 200m from my house and I have clear line of sight, and Im considering using these.

Was wondering how far over the ground should I put the transmitters

The shed has a metal gable so was hoping to attach the receiver at the shed end to the gable, however Im a bit worried about reflectance from the sheet metal work. Am I being over worried.
