Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's some lead she's got so early on.

Coverage just stared. No pace makers in either race, interesting!

Pacemakers were abolished in this race a few years back - Race Director felt it ruined the spirit of the event as a race rather than a time trial.

That's some lead she's got so early on.

Keitany is class, top female marathoner in the world. Could be a blow up in the making at this pace with the late hills

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,533 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

Looks like she's gunning for the 'certified' women's world record. A real kick in the teeth for Radcliffe if she gets it. Still, it's a tough course, so if she can run 2:17, that's a superb result.

*Edit*: Ok, I posted a little prematurely. Looks like she's on 2:19 pace now and slowing. Course record is 2:22.

Is Keitany going to hang on? The 2 chasers are under 30 secs behind, with around 3k to go.

She's just been caught but is now rallying again and is pulling away. Two exciting finishes in NYC

looks like a couple of great finishes developing

    NOPE!!.............oh hold on a minute............

This is possibly one of the most bizarre finishes I've seen to a women's marathon. This is great viewing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Caprica

Come on Mary, you can do it. Looks like a 2:24 finish, much slower second half for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭Dan man

Poor Mary Keitany, what must she be feeling (apart from the excruciating pain!)?

    My word that was close.

That's real racing - really enjoyable

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Caprica

Exciting finish to the womens race. I though Keitany was going to pull away again but it was only a brief rally, stong finish by the second Ehtiopian to close to with a few seconds of her countrywoman. Looks like Kenya will claim the mens race. The East African strenght in depth is just crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭Dan man

Pfffff, only 2:05:xx :D ........Seriously though, the Kenyans are class. It's ridiculous to think that we are becoming so accustomed to these fast times that 2:05 is not appreciated the way it should. Absolutely loving the marathons at the minute!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,762 ✭✭✭✭ecoli

Will be interesting to see the decision in the morning regarding the last spot on the Kenyan team its down to three now

    G Mutai
Personally I think is the favourite. Winner in Boston in 2.03.02 but today showed that he can run fast without pacers in a more championship type setting (and i think AK recognized this when the announced team selection would be made tomorrow

    W Kipsang
2.03.42 to win in Frankfurt only 4 sec shy of the world record

    M Mosop
Second fastest time ever in Boston in his Debut recently took S Wanjiru's CR on the way to winning chicago

I ordered these in terms of how i think they will rank to the selectors though in fairness I think any combination of about 6 runners could be used to have a good shot at all the medals in London next year. Who ever doesnt make the Olympic games will be in high demand in terms of appearances fees at Marathon majors though so atleast they have some consolation:D

Perhaps it is, Entertainment Ireland has it listed as well, however on the BBC schedules website it says it's not on in Northern Ireland. I'll try to tune in BBC Two England this evening anyway if I can on my Sky box if I haven't already got it, just in-case.

I hate it when they show some boring local crap instead of Athletics, and I'm from the north too!

Live coverage by RTE this Sunday from 12.25 pm on RTE2!

    I'm feeling dizzy. :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I see on RTE's coverage the commentary is by Steve Cram and Brendan Foster. That is quite the coup for RTE ;)

Seriously though, I guess they are just picking up the BBC commentary when the race starts. I'd say there's a good chance I will watch this on BBC Two anyway, even though its on RTE as well.

Is this highlights of the athletics or out-takes of the C4 presenter?

Lap to go. Britton burned the whole field off, but Steel has held on so far. Putting on a burst again now to try and lose her.

Fantastic run from Britton. Completely destroyed the field.

Great result and really enjoyed watching. But why was she listed a EUR instead of IRL for country?

Its a team event Eur,USA and GB & NI they combine points from all four races (Men and women) and lowest points wins

Joe Sweeney and Mark Hanrahan were also part of the Europe team

Kiprot was just out for a jog there by the look of him :D

I loved the moment where one of the young British runners was running beside Bekele and looked across at him and had a massive big grin on his face. Don't think he could quite believe it either. Think he beat Bekele in the end too.

Any chance "FreeView" means that if you have Sky and you get the message about needing to upgrade to see Setanta, it will magically disappear for the duration of this programme???

That was a very interesting program last night. One major thing picked up was - keep it simple.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

That was interesting alright. Setanta showed it for free even though I don't have a subscription to their channel. Interesting programme, I think it will be one I will be keeping on my Sky+ box.

One to watch at the weekend is the Houston marathon Fagan and AFAIK one or two of the mission marathon ladies in action (Ava Hutchinson??) at the weekend

It would be nice if they televised or streamed live the US Marathon Trials, they are on in Houston this weekend also.

They will most certainly be televised and should be able to find a stream very easily for them. I will post one when it becomes available

I hope so. What I've read online is that they won't be streamed or televised live.
