New hob too small for the original opening.

I am replacing an hob in a house but the original hob is very big and when I have removed it from the worktop , it is very hard to get a new hob that will as big as it.
As a result there is a big gap in the work top on both size. Basically the new hob is too small for the original opening.

Is there anything that I can get from the manufactures of the hob to allow for this so it would fill in the gap and make it look ok? Otherwise I will have to replace the whole worktop in the kitchen.

will it drop through the hole or is it just the right length but too narrow or the other way around.

It will need to be supported all the way around so whats the gap?

You can also get an extended hob, check with the retailer for cut out measurements

Personally, if you can't hide it, make a feature of it. I've seen examples in the past where people have either gotten a sheet of stainless steel or darkened tempered glass cut to fit the old opening, with a hole centered in it to take the new hob. Done properly, it looks like an extended, cleanable work surface surrounding the hob. You can also offset the hop to the left or right, giving a larger work surface on one side. It all depends on the style of your kitchen though.
