Looks like the Womens T20 WC might descend into farce with both SF's cancelled due to rain and the group winners progressing without a ball bowled.

Aussies South Africa went ahead, good game, but it was ridiculous they didn't factor in a rain day for both the semi finals of a world cup, so England missed out and India went through.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Maybe put him in charge of flattening the curve?

Rock n roll Erasmus is another good one.

Sky Sports statistician Benedict Bermange is running a simulated test between Sri Lanka and England and I'm spending a little too long studying the scorecard when he posts updates. :o

Do you have a score update?

This may be reminiscent of the times i watched tests on Teletext....

Series is over now. Cricket simulation is new to me but it's been around for a while going by the comments to his tweets. People simulating county championships in the 90s. Imagine the computer needed to simulate Headingley or the world cup final.

West Indies have agreed in principle to travel to England

Might be an opportunity to get everyone together to play for the West Indies. Chris Gayle, Dre Russ, Narine :pac:

Sir Everton Weeks has died at the age of 95. He was a fantastic batsman who once hit five consecutive test centuries and was run out for 90 going for a sixth, fittingly he came close to a ton of years as well. The three Ws were born within 18 months of each other, and all debuted for West Indies in 1948 Weekes averaged over 58 in tests, Sir Clyde Walcott 56, and Sir Frank Worrell was a dismal failure averaging 49, and was also the First Black West Indies captain, before unfortunately dying of leukaemia at 42 years of age, Sir Clyde Walcott died in 2006 at 80. RIP

apparently the run out was fairly contentious as well!

RIP and condolences to friends and family.

Still no idea on today's play as it's impossible to find any weather news amongst the pandering thats going on across all tv channels and social media right now. So glad I took today off to watch....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Have to say Sibley got a good one there, 9/10 batsmen would try and leave that with no problems but seemed to jag back a foot and a half. First ball after the break behaving similarly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

English top order looks very workmanlike on paper with no Root but there is Pope so some class to come.

Broad very unlucky to not be playing. Was very good last summer and in South Africa. Archer and Wood is exciting and Stokes has real pace too. Nice carry and some variable bounce will help them.

Not much of a day's cricket today, 35/1 with multiple bad light, showers etc. etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Overcast and pretty windy with the chance of an odd shower tomorrow, but after that the weather is set very fair for the remaining three days play.

Well, three LBWs turned down and then overturned on review today isn't a great look. Don't think I've seen that before, certainly not where there have been no unsuccessful reviews at all.

Umpires having a bad game. DRS to the rescue again.

Off for bad light again. West Indies in good shape if the forecast is right for good weather tomorrow on.

Lol, 5th successful review in a row for the windies. The umpires are having a mare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

    Great pace from Wood.

    Poxy bad light....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

A positive start by West Indies but a really crappy shot there by Blackwood and the possibility or probability of WI compiling a quite big or decent lead takes a blow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,159 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Not sure about Stokes' decision to bat here, conditions were gloomy and nobody in their top 5 even averages 40.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,221 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    Poxy bad light....

lets hope the bad light doesnt save them.

WI 274/6, lead of 70. They'll want another 80 on top i reckon. lead of 150. eng will be hard pressed to win at that stage IMO

i think he should bat 7 at best. he's not a middle order batsman. averages about ~35. he obviously has the odd whopper innings!

Holder vs Stokes! Our version of the legendary all-rounders battling in the 80s.

I would hold fire on the toss decision for a while. Looks bad at the moment but if it's as dry as they say, batting last will be tough. Lead is manageable still.

Bess could have a field day in 4th innings

Excellent little session there. Gabriel and Roach on the money, threatened every ball. Holder a lot less dangerous looking today and probably shouldn't have brought himself on. English pair left very well to survive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Can't see the pitch breaking up too much. Day 5 will effectively be a Day 4 pitch. Not much sun and heat on the wicket and definitely not a recently used pitch. England will have to put on a target of at least 200.

  • Registered Users Posts: 625 ✭✭✭Cal4567

All 3 results possible here. Hard to call. Head says Draw, but we could be facing one of those nail biters tomorrow afternoon. Two even and average sides, well matched.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Run rate is just 2.3 an over. A pretty conservative effort by the English batsmen but that said the WI team seem to have their field placement spot on. Been a few good shots that merited more than a dot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,159 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

    Denly does it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

A seriously soft dismissal, no idea why he was so forward so early to the ball. With the field as it was a shot like that was akin to putting your hand in a piranha tank. Soft.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,159 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

50 for Crawley, that's Denly finished so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Poor from the English batsmen. Again, a lot of starts, only one score of note through Crawley making a dogged 76 and Sibley the only other batsman to even make a half century and at that it took him 164 balls, a strike rate of 30.49.

Stokes looked decent if a little more watchful which was to be expected given the circumstances but he’ll be disappointed and he should be with the shot that led to his dismissal, Phil Tufnel would have been kicking himself had he got out in that manner.

    Tad harsh

    Tad harsh

76 from 127 balls, 8 boundaries in 21 overs he is at the crease. Accurate would be my thinking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Very harsh I think. Looked pretty fluent to me. Saying that, compared to the top three anyone with a few shots would look free flowing. Not a fast scoring pitch either and against a quality, tight bowling attack. No, Crawley looked fine and should hold his place when Root comes back. Only 21 too remember.

170 lead with two wickets left. Archer and Wood need to get a few and it should be a great chase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

I think we have an absolute cracker on our hands. England may be in 2 minds. Wood and Archer whilst not great batsmen are hitters, they can score runs quickly on their day. Anderson is a blocker. If they last until 12, they will probably have put on 50-60 runs. But then there is the element of having to bat as long as possible to try and make the target a score where Windies have to attack, thus taking risks leading to wickets.

If they bat Conservatively until lunch and knock on about 50 runs, Windies will have to attack to win.

I reckon Wood and Archer will be told to go out and strike the ball, and Jimmy to stick around and let the other do the hitting. Should be a very eventful first hour.

In regard to the 4th innings, if there is one Englishman I want in my team bar nobody including Jimmy Anderson, its Stuart Broad. If you have a small target Broad is the type of guy to get his tail up and rip through the team. It's what he does. The conditions were perfect for Broad in the first innings and the situation is perfect for Broad in the 2nd innings.

I think Don Bess is a good-un. He will have a big say tomorrow.

Crawley looks seriously good, 21 too ? Fück that’s one for the future, pity he didn’t make a ton.

He looks OK, but I thought with a high backlift that he employs, I would fancy myself to get him with a full pitched ball. Anyway, England as always looked brittle with the bat, Denly has had 18 test scores between 10 and 49, always seems to get in then get out, pity for him but he may have had his last chance for now. As for the match situation, I don't think England will get too many more, and West Indies looking for around 180 should be OK, I think John Campbell is a key player, as he scores quickly, but he also has a habit of getting a start and not going on. Good contest, but the late wickets have tilted the balance in favour of West Indies.

Windies 3 down and 1 ret hurt for 27

Very good morning for England. Archer especially to get the lead to 200 and then bowled really well.

All the bowlers look on it. West Indies desperately need a partnership or this could be over quick.
