Insuring a classic at 21

    So I'm looking at buying a 1991 BMW E30 318 as a weekend car but I know there is a general age you have to be to qualify for classic insurance. I already have a daily car which I use for work as I drive for work. I was thinking as a last resort putting the car in my dad's name and getting him insurance on it and then driving it under the third party extension on my existing policy for my daily car.

    Are there any companies that would insure someone my age?

    No, not on a Classic policy.

    This is an age old question and all that's changed over time is that the insurance companies have taken a hardline approach to 'fronting' on insurance policies. Have an accident and your Dad gets landed with a load of hassle. Just bide your time.

    Fronting relates to a person being only a named driver on a policy but actually they're the main driver and it's normally their only form of transport.

    What the op has described is quite different to this. They already have a weekday car. Driving his fathers car at the weekend on his driving of other cars extension would be perfectly above board and in line with most insurers driving of other cars requirements, especially if his father drove the car a bit too.
