Alternative to a G-Shock

Do any posters have suggestions for an alternative to a G-Shock for circa 300 euros.
I reallly like the looks of the Casio G-shock MTG-B1000XB-1AJF, but it is way past my price point.

Not much out there to beat the real thing.

Some of the newish GA 2000 Carbon core models are rather nice too and a lot cheaper. You could buy 3!

I hate the spec creep I always get when I start looking at G-Shocks. There are so many models, with such small incremental price jumps as you go along.

I start looking at the basic resin ones, because, I mean, everyone needs a G-Shock, right? The ultimate beater. Not that I do much by way of adventure sports, at least nothing that should involve a beater actually getting beaten.

Then I figure solar is a must have. Just so it can sit on the shelf and have nice quartz accuracy so I can set my mechanical watches by it. So far so good, a basic solar it is.

But then, why not have a radio controlled one? That way the time is 'guaranteed' to be right, right? I can conveniently ignore the spectacularly accurate phone in my pocket for the purposes of this small bout of upgraditis.

Be a shame not to go for a carbon core one when I've gone this far, just in case.

Maybe a G-Steel.

Oh, and a tide graph would be handy.

And, and, and... at which point I get confused and go back to looking at the basic ones and forget about it all until the next one of these threads pop up here.

EDIT: BTW, I love the way that the alternative to a G-Shock is a G-Shock.

Wow, that's good value for one. I think the thing with g-shocks is that once you go over about €80, you're generally getting it because of extra features. Sensors, radio controlled, Bluetooth, tides etc.

Thanks for that. I had my eye on pretty much the identical watch in the non-steel range on amazon for £98 but that’s a great price for the GST. That’s two watches you’ve sold on this thread. You should be on commission!

Here's a real alternative to a G-Shock - a Pro-trek - also made by Casio...

I have a titanium one from a few generations ago - altimeter, barometer, compass, thermometer, tide graph, radio signal, solar, 200m WR - so pretty much anything you'd possible want in an outdoor watch.

I think it cost me less than €100 for a slightly scratched 2nd hand one - but it's an outdoors watch - it's not meant to be kept in pristine condition
