    Hi all and belated Happy New Year!

    Some events the next couple of weeks are listed below:

    The Dublin Bowie Festival is on at the moment and this year’s theme is “Space” as it’s the 50th anniversary of the album “Space Oddity” along with that of the Apollo moon landing. Saturday seeing a showing of the movies “Moon” and 2001: A Space Odyssey” in the Lighthouse Cinema along with planetarium shows in Smithfield Square. On Sunday “The Farthest” will be screened while The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre hosts Physics Busking, night sky talks, a Bowie exhibition, and a telescope evening.     Galway Astronomy Club have a great line-up of speakers for their Festival in the Harbour Hotel on Jan 26th. More details at www.galwayastronomyclub.ie

    The Royal Irish Academy’s McCrea lecture on Feb 7th will be given by ESO’s Director of Science. See www.ria.ie

    There’s a couple of Open Nights scheduled at Dunsink Observatory this month. See www.dias.ie for details.

    The IAS talk on Jan 28th features a talk on radio astronomy. See www.irishastrosoc.org

    Astronomy Ireland’s lecture on Jan 14th will be on “Dark Matter & Dark Energy” see www.astronomy.ie

    Evelyn Cusack is MC for the Irish Meteorological Society’s annual Table Quiz on Jan 17th. See www.irishmetsociety.org

    I only started work on the 2019 calendar just after Christmas but hope to post it online in the next couple of weeks. The latter half of last year got a bit crazy with other commitments (think software & Smart PAYE!) I’ll let everyone know once it’s available.
