Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't say that to sound condescending but because I never really liked the idea of a gt6 until I got a spin out of one and fell completely in love with the view out over the bonnet.

I drove (and worked on) a minter back around 20 years ago. For a British car it wasn't bad at all. Great looking cars in the flesh. Nice to drive as well.

In his other ad you can see a fine shed which might have saved her. EDIT must have it's sold.

Hardly a good yardstick by which to judge, that A4 is practically saleproof, no test, 1.8 petrol slushbox... Maybe the other yoke was in the stable but I'd be bringing the ole magnet and hopefully wont get bad ache picking it up;)

You are right, you can't beat a good dose of caveat emptor.

I always like a good shed and a clean yard as a starting point but at the end of the day it's the car you are buying.

Anyway the MR2 found a new home and the Audi might be worth a look.

Just because it hasn't been taxed or nct doesn't mean it hasn't been moved. The only place for rust on them is the rear wheel arches and the sills both of which are fairly easy to fix if you have the know how.
Anyway I knew it wouldnt last long and I would have bought it only for my 94 project one.

It was very obvious from the photos and the ad that the car wasn’t just dumped in a corner in a shed for 15 years and someone actually took good good care in preserving it

Yes it is, nothing kills a car more quickly than standing around especially for 15 years, still, your "confused" post got you one like.

I saw that. That Sierra looks a solid looking car to be fair I'd like to get the UK reg and see how it went through the MOT's over the years, it's a fantastic service.

Except for the fact that the rest of the car looked perfect, that makes perfect sense. A car doesn’t just magically rust “red rotten” underneath and underneath only when it sits around

Yes they do and do it rapidly.
    Especially yokes of that era.

I’m not saying that cars don’t rust rapidly when put into storage. I’m merely pointing out that if it was indeed “red rotten” (an inference you made entirely from the date of the last tax disc) do you not think it would look a bit more disheveled on top too?

You’re saying that a car, when put into storage, will only rust “underneath” and won’t deteriorate at all anywhere else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,212 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

Judging by the tax and test history of my own Wolseley 16/60, it appears to have spend a decade off the road, and sunlight had turned the Maroon paint to a light red. There wasn't too much wrong with it barring the sills, and they rot anyhow, on or off the road. It also started relatively easily. Fifteen years might not matter too much if there was some preparation like fuel drained and the place wasn't too damp. Toyotas of that era had already been galvanised for maybe five years (eg a 1984-85 Toyota Carina II was galvanised).

Obviously it was prepared for sale surely you aren't going to try and tell me the loving owner polished it every Saturday... Anyway it's gone now to be further polished and make a return to DD for Spring.

I f you were looking for a Sierra that one seems to be the business.

You could spend a lot getting a middling one up to that standard.

Also it will never need another NCT.

This is nice. Two years NCT recently done. LHD, but the interior makes up for it. Price is OK too. €1,850

Clean looking 300SEL, love the seats, looks good with those alloys. New NCT. €8,500.
Can't see the dash to see what options it has (or has not). Could be deliberate but worth a call.

I know anything with a Ford badge from the 80s is going to command crazy money, so maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I remember when this was originally for sale and I thought it was absolutely ludicrous. Now it's for sale again, slightly cheaper, but am I the only one who thinks its still mental money for a 1.6 automatic Sierra?

Id be of the same opinion as you. Sierra cossie reps are making mad money but its happened to everything that's some way insurable as a classic for younger people.

In fairness to the seller he acknowledged the gank wheels in stating the originals come with it. If that mileage is genuine it's a fabulous car. IMHO though, a ZV plate would suit it far better.

Feckers to rust too, don't be afraid to get down n dirty if inspecting it especially around the rear quarters.

No its definitely worth more than that.

Less than 30k original miles and the metal is spotless. Worth 5 grand all day long. He will get close to his asking of 5995 if he is not in a hurry to sell.

The originality of it is a big draw.

Pity he doesn't give the UK reg. Never any harm to see the MOT history before handing over your sheckles. There was big engined one on DD the other night, it was never mot'd in its entire existence!!
