Personally I would avoid a private college for my degree unless I messed up my leaving cert.

The question which immediately jumps out at me:

What happens if the college closes down when you're in year 2?

its been around 26 years, there must be more that can be said about it then the above.

There's a depressing track record of private colleges closing down in Ireland.

Again I ask: What happens if the college closes down when you're in year 2?

You need to ask the college that question before enrolling there.

    Even worse:

What happens if the college closes when you're in the middle of year 3?

Will you have wasted 2.5 years and a bunch of money?

5k a year is pretty hefty. Can't say I've ever heard of the place before tbh.

    What's the end goal?

any college course cost would nearly be that

the end goal is a BA Degree Graphic Design - 3 Year Level 7 QQI award

Im asking about the Design Institutes track record.

should I ask that of DCU/UCD?TCD too? they keep telling us they don't have enough money to survive

    Mine was almost half that.
the end goal is a BA Degree Graphic Design - 3 Year Level 7 QQI award

    Well good luck with that.

Look it's obvious you came here wanting us to say they're great and you should do the course.

So go ahead and do the course.

I came hoping somebody with particular knowledge of the Dublin Institute of Design might have something to say about it, thats obviously not you.

    Are you for real?

The degree is level 7 QQI, so you know it's a real degree.

The only issue is it's a private college, which means it might close down, which means you might be left with nothing except a hole in your pocket.

Almost every private college in Ireland has gone bankrupt except a handful.

OP, I think you will have got the message loud and clear about being wary of private colleges.
I would second that, though I do acknowledge this place has been around a while.

Is there a similar course in one of the publicly funded colleges you could consider?
