Shane MacThomais RIP

I was saddened this morning to learn of the passing of Shane MacThomais - in my opinion a great historian who ran the tours of Glasnevin Cemetery, and also had a small article from time to time in the Northside People (that's what I knew him for anyway).

Myself and my wife took the Glasnevin Tour with Shane on two occasions, and both times found him interesting, engaging and a humourous guide who's stories and tales brought life to the residents of the graveyard.

R.I.P. Shane. He was a wonderful asset to the cemetery before they did the refurbishment job and was always helpful and interesting on the tours. He had a great knowledge of all aspects of the development of Glasnevin since it's foundation

I am shocked and saddened to read this, I also had a tour with him in August of last year. What a wonderful, engaging and funny man, full of information, history and funny stories.

RIP to Shane and condolences to his family.

Shocked to hear this sad news. Anyone who met Shane will know what a character he was. He was way too young to die, may he rest in peace. My sympathies to his family and colleagues at Glasnevin

He had that extraordinary ability to make complex pieces of history easy to understand. A great communicator. Like many I went on one of his tours of the cemetery and went back again and again.
May he rest in peace.
