Difference between lifeguard qualifications

    Hi there, not sure if this is the right section but looking at completing a surf instructor course in the future and see that many include a SLS surf coach lifesaver qualification. Many of the jobs I've seen advertised in Ireland however look for a beach lifeguard qualification. Would I need to do this as well or would the SLS qualification be sufficient?
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Sligo Lad,
    If you want you can just do the surf coach lifesaving award and that will work if you just want to use it with the surf coach here in Ireland. However if you want to travel ever with the surf coach you would then need to have the beach lifeguard (NVBLQ is the highest recognised award and you can do this in bundoran)
    On another note if you want to say take groups doing other activities in the water - coasteering/SUP/Kayak/Pier jumping etc then each of these bodies ask you to do their lifesaving award (the surf coach one doesn't work) but the good news is that if you have you beach lifeguard it covers the safety aspect for all of them.

    So my advice would be do you beach lifeguard and it opens up many more doors
