Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Blood and gristle everywhere. At least 50% of the staff have never done a jump themselves. The said the training videos they were forced to watch when they joined the company were horrific.

Also, that's why, when you are weighed, and you are 90kg, they now draw a line under the 90. So the guy adjusting your bungee rope dosent think you are 60kg, and as Rab C Nesbit famously said "into the ground like a fu**ing dart"

We'd use bluestone here too on the (sheeps) feet.

But I would have said twould be too severe for navals?

actually i use iodine diluted usually unless i have problem i will use neat, dries naval to crust in an hour or so, or if stuck ill iodine teat dip, of any sort use on tagger as well.
know a guy who bathes his feet in diluted bluestone:eek: says old fellas used say long it cured sweaty feet in fellas spraying spuds with leaking knapsack sprayer, he used it too or so he said. i asked him if he had ever heard of swayback or drunken sailor, was told to F***k of with meself.
dem goats would trim roads fine and make good stew after, shouldn't they be tagged. did anyone see report on stolen cattle lately, wonder whose buying them or meat , an issue like that in papers would screw irish export quicker than any, between horses , goats and allegation of markets for untagged cattle making its way into consumers shopping its all we need.
im too heavy for bungy jumping, anyway id lose me dentures, did anyone try free-falling using cable off mountain side crack it looks scary,

    Sweaty feet? Athletes foot perhaps?
    Bluestone would definitely cure that............

No didn't yet, have another problem to sort at the top end, hoping to seed in the spring Nice to get that end finished, was close to giving up a few times!!

Yes it's the bottom end of the field and the field is at the bottom of a long hill. When I opened it up I found plenty of old stone drains which we're not working. I found the problem was the open drain in the neighbours field which hadn't been cleaned out in years After a bit of negotiation with the neighbour, rather than clean the open drain out, I pulled a new drain through his field and put a six inch pipe in it. I used the laser and I reckon it has lowered the water table by 18 inches. Once I got the out fall sorted the older drains started to run again and the three new ones should also help. Fingers crossed now it will stay dry when the wet weather returns!!

Yes but I mean the height. I don't mind fine bone in an animal, you don't get paid for the bone in a factory!

Whoops where did I get that from then? That's just my preference for animals anyway, definitely more of an interest than any aspect of business potential apart from hopes of breeding show animals.

The Ch should give a blue better feet than a LM dam would though, from experience of the crosses here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭Farrell

I like them myself, remember years ago seeing an article in the fj, on a farmer in meath who crossed 3/4 limo with bb, & then crossed back LM / BB depending on last cross - exceptional calves. I remember thinking at the time, that's the type of stock I'd like to breed (could be not wanted now).
Saler is a good dam for the blue

    I know nothing about Salers:eek:

Our best breeders would have a mongrel breeding of Simmental/Br FR and about 1/2 or 3/4 Lim with that.

Likewise, My father bought a Simmental bull back in the early 90's who bred some good stock, since that he'd Charolais.
He's cows 3 generation CH which are breeding good stock, which all stems from that Simmental bull.
    A good foundation means allot

Always found a good well bred limousine cow crossed with a blue or charloais bull gave a great animal to fatten

The 1 we have is tame, but up til 3yo (5 now) would be liable for a kick

We did B&B for a few years and one calved in the slats one time out of the blue. Couldn't get near pen for 3 days with her. Finally got the calf out once and she nearly took the barrier off the pillars so we had to put the calf back in to the pen

Rang the owner to collect her. When he arrived I was telling him about the "experience" we had with her and he said that was the norm for salers. Apparently I was lucky she didn't bite me I was told as they have a habit of doing that too. She wasn't even a springer. When she was brought back to her home farm she abandoned the calf for 2 days

Never had one in the place since

I've been told they have an aggressive nature alright but biting?! That would go against any natural instinct a cow has Reggie.
Whatever about kicking you or charging at you.....any animal who with only a single row of teeth in the front of their mouths are very unlikely to bite in defense.

I have no idea of a pigs dental anatomy I'm afraid but a horse definitely has front incisors to nip as I've been on the receiving end often enough!:pac:
