Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rules question

    What do the rules say about this scenario ;

    I take a putt.
Ball stops fully just short of the hole.
A seagull lands on the green and nods it in to the hole.

Does that count as if I had holed the putt first time or what ?

Did he take it on the chest or did it touch his wing first?

If the ball is at rest you replace it, otherwise its just a rub of the green.

There is an exception to that when playing from the green.
Exception 2 – When Ball Played from Putting Green Accidentally Hits Any Person, Animal or Movable Obstruction (Including Another Ball in Motion) on Putting Green: The stroke does not count and the original ball or another ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated)

Would this mean if your ball hits another players marker you could retake it?

If a marker is considered a moveable obstruction then you MUST replay...it's not an option.

But the ball has already come to rest so that quote would not matter here.

It was in relation to Greebo's comment who said if the bird knocks it in while in motion it would count.

It was already confirmed that if the bird knocks it in from an at rest position it must be replaced.

They don't make the rules easy. That exception has 2 further exceptions, 1 of which covers your scenario.

    - Ball in Motion Hits Another Ball at Rest or Ball-Marker on Putting Green. The stroke counts and the ball must be played as it lies. (See Rule 11.1a for whether a penalty applies in stroke play).

Rule 11.1a is a 2 shot penalty when a ball played from the green hits another ball at rest on the green.

The other exception relates to hitting the flagstick.

That's what I thought, never heard of replacing your ball after hitting a marker.
