win7 + media center + extender + xbox360 disconnects

Ok guys really need some help - been searching this one for weeks really doing my chops in at this stage

Im running windows 7 home premium - with media center. Runs fine. When I add the extender and set up my 360 all is well for approx. 2 mins then the session disconnects and re-connects. EVERY TIME! be it music, movies or pictures.

Now, I can stream to the Xbox360 just fine when media center is not involved using standard shares. (What can I say, the win7 interface for media center is slick enough to make me bother with this "sigh"). Also, I can dual boot into vista and no disconnects with media center when I stream to the 360 but vista is #@&*.

To make matters worse (or better hopefully for someone here!) I get this from the event viewer at the time of disconnect or thereabouts.

The Media Center Extender user was abruptly disconnected. (really!? )

now it would appear some dialog or some nonsense is interrupting my session but I have no way of determining this window as it does not show up in the actual OS at the time.

the application even viewer at the same time reports:

The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004)

I have disabled aero thinking the desktop manager crashing was the cause, however this did not alleviate the problem. I also disabled virus checkers and any and all background services that might be causing reporting to the OS and interrupting the service. no dice. It's a pretty much vanilla install of win7 anyway i've only a few apps on it.

what really irks me is this running from vista no problem (well except vista won't play my divx and xvid's natively like win7 will albeit for 2 lousy minutes)

anyone any ideas???

I found this thread but it didn't help me as I don't have the features of Win 7 to do what is suggested.

basically saying the harddrive monitor service is reporting imminent failure causing report to the os causing the interruption. I've turned off all reporting services (I think) in services but the error's above still get reported.

I've also tried every solution from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911123 - however since I can stream these are not the problem. The problem is the interrupt at the same time every time! yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
