Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Big wins for Terenure, UCC (ouch) & Trinity at the weekend just showing all that is great about the AIL and 1A in particular.

UCC good value for their win over us. 10,13 & 15 all played very well. No stopping Con at the moment.

To be fair all the leagues look great at the moment, not just 1A.

    1B is properly crazy.

Highfield look nearly 1A standard and their points differential is incredible.

Barnhall unbeaten in 2B and Ballina going for a double promotion.

Nevermind all the flip flopping at the bottom of the respective divisions.

Echoing Chico but all divisions are looking very good at the moment. Shows the great strength of club rugby that i wish more people attended and few more here could do!!!

Wouldnt say 1A standard but then again look at Malone. Won 2A last season and are top of 1B though one loss and they could drop to 4th/5th...
1B is mental. And the rugby has been seriously quality rugby.

Highfield have a crazily big pack, playing very well under Timmy Ryan.

New layout is ten times easier to use and navigate, but my gripe is that none of the links work any longer, ie if you google something and a link comes up for an article that was on irishrugby.ie it'll just redirect you to the home page.

New layout is good. Hopefully the links to old articles etc will be fixed. Totally agree with you.

James Blaney stepping down as Terenure head coach at the end of the season. Done a great job to take them from middle to bottom of the pack in 2A up to 1A including going something like 2 years unbeaten.

    1A

Cork Con v Clontarf - Big big game and it is hard to see Con slipping up at home but Tarf are probably one of the only teams out there that can match Con phyiscally. Still expecting a Con win though.

Trinity v UCC - This is a great game for the neutral. Both teams love to throw the ball around and are exciting to watch. UCC to squeeze out the away win

Garryowen v Terenure - Terenure were much much better the last time out by all accounts and so were Garryowen by all accounts. Garryowen will edge it up front and that will be the difference

Lansdowne v Shannon - Big game for us after the disappointment of the UCC game. Really impressed with Shannon this season and we will need to play very well to beat them.

UCD v Young Munster - Ordinarily you would say UCD at home should have enough for Munsters but with UCC winning last time out Munsters will be really feeling the pressure and that's usually when you see the best from them. UCD know another loss really puts them right in it so I think they will prevail but only just.

    1B
Easier to pick the winning lotto numbers this weekend but here we go:

St Marys v Naas - Resurgent Naas seem to have got their mojo back and I think they will continue winning

Ballynahinch v Old Wesley - 5th plays 4th expect a great battle and going to tip Wesley for this one.

Malone v Banbridge - 1st v 2nd. Very tasty. 2 form teams but going with home advantage

Old Belvedere v Ballymena - Absolute must win game for both teams otherwise relegation looms. Belvo to sneak it.

Armagh v Buccaneers - Buccs seem to be getting better but are they good enough to beat Armagh away? Don't think so - Armagh

No idea, just read that he was leaving in the Terenure newsletter. I'd guess they'd prefer another Terenure man but who knows.

Instonians and Ballyclare drew 5-5. So Instonians lead Ballyclare by 3 with Ballyclare 3 games to play and Instonians 2 to play
Clonmel and Bandon to be played today was postponed while Newcastle West got bonus point win. Clonmel need point to win league again.

    1A

Clontarf v Shannon - Clontarf's form seems to be picking up whilst Shannon have been sliding. I think Clontarf will have too much power for Shannon.

Cork Con v Lansdowne - Difficult place to visit. Con back on track after their hiccup against UCD the previous week. Expecting a very physical encounter

Terenure v UCC - A real 8 pointer for both teams. A win for either team will be massive. Fancy Terenure

UCD v Garryowen - UCD have shown a bit more form of late and I think will edge it over Garryowen

Young Munster v Trinity - Must win for Munsters but I think Trinity will prevail to soldify 4th spot

    1B

Ballymena v Banbridge - Ballymena look to be spent so going for away win. Strange to see Banbridge in 9th. A win would get them up the the right part of the table

Buccaneers v Ballynahinch - Buccs have picked up lately and I think will sneak this.

Armagh v St Marys - 4 v 5 Armagh seem to have mixed form of late (Have they had a few injuries?) but I think will edge it over Marys.

Old Belvedere v Malone - Huge game for Belvo whilst Malone will be chomping at the bit to chase down Wesley ahead of them. I think Belvo will win.

Naas v Old Wesley - Naas really need this if they want to keep up the chase for promotion. Old Wesley know if they slip up there at least 3 clubs over their shoulder who will potentially move past them. Wesley are the form team in the division at the moment so will go with them

    1A semi finalists
Con will be first, Clontarf and Lansdowne are battling for second and third and likely will go to final game when they play each other in Lansdowne. Fourth will be Garryowen or Trinity and Garryowen host trinity in final round.
Terenure and Munsters bottom on 23 points with UCC and Shannon on 27.

Just thinking on potential changes to the league. Should the IRFU and clubs look to have an AIL 2nds league where clubs 2nd teams play same team as their 1sts on same weekend and then whatever other teams they field continue in whatever competitions they play at the moment like metro leagues in leinster etc

    Just to clarify:

Trinity v Garryowen is is College Park on last day

    Table as it stands is:

    Nure 23: Shannon 27: UCC 27 and Munsters 28

Wouldn't be sustainable for most clubs to be sending 40/42 lads around the country 9 times a year.

Not every team can accommodate two teams at same time - and on the whole most teams 2s will play on separate day and carry overflow from 1s.

Don't think that is a good idea at all.

Not sure the logic behind that, you are adjusting junior rugby leagues for no real gain.

It would be using one bus like now for players. Many clubs would be able to do it and if you have 2s starting after 1sts game you would be able use subs from 1s to play 2s and many subs from 1s games are often used again by 2s on a Sunday so this removes that

Asking lads to stay togged for 160 minutes- what if they end up having to come on after 5 mins in the 2s game

And with injuries etc - you would need 50 lads every Saturday

    I think it is nonsensical.

This sort of system works very well in Australia. Would worry about the traveling costs though as I am not sure one coach would do the trick.

It works extremely well in other countries including Australia as Stainalert says

One coach would most likely do for players - 50 seat bus - all depends on how many coaches, physios etc you have then. Mightnt be any room for president/alickadoos on bus though

Fair enough, I just don't see any merit in it.

Why? Surely better than existing system and should see more support for teams at games.

Leinster notifying clubs today that none of their academy players will be available for Round 17 & 18 of the AIL. Scandalous that these players will be sent to the US to help try and support US rugby rather than stay here and support Irish rugby particularly given the amount of Irish players that been signed up by the MLR.
