Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Looking to take up self-defence, and I was wondering if there are any gyms in Dublin City (D1->D4) that do both BJJ and Muay Thai so that I can alternate between them?!

    Thanks,

    Paul

    No takers on this?

Not sure if you'd venture city centre north side, but...

Jorge Santos on Parnell Street is best known for being a BJJ gym but they also have a K1 type class. (Disclosure, I train BJJ there, have never done the striking class).

In that neck of the woods I have also trained Muay Thai at Lionheart and can recommend it as an excellent spot. Tony, Collie and Craig are friendly coaches and they often seemed to be upskilling by bringing in Thai coaches etc. The downside is that the venue is small and the classes get really packed.

On the south side city centre I think Wild Geese off Pearse Street has a BJJ team and also has or had K1 / Muay Thai classes with Mick Paznowski (spelling?).

Most, if not all, MMA gyms would offer BJJ and Muay Thai classes

Fantom on more street has BJJ and Muay Thai both morning and evenings. They now have a floor dedicated to each in the building.

Sorry for the delay in replying, and thanks for the feedback.

I haven't seen a huge amount who do both, but yeah Fantom is one of the ones that I stumbled upon. Does anyone have any experience? Would one be better off going to a place that specialises in X/Y/Z?

Wild Geese would be another alternative, but they only have a lot of overlap between Muay Thai and BJJ so not ideal. Plus with Fantom, it's a one price covers all deal.

I have been in there for 3 years or so. As a result my views are slightly biased but I have trained in a lot of places. You might find 1 or 2 gyms that solely do one thing but all of the coaches in Fantom specilise in their own area. Black belt bjj coach who won NAGA a few weeks back and Muay Thai coach who won another title last week so good training all around from them.

The best advice I can give is try it and try out a few other gyms and see what suits you with the location, times, vibe, teachers etc and see what suits you best.
